Shooting some 35mm film in Bali, photowalk style. Two rolls of film were used: Fuji Superia Premium 400 and Lomography 400 overexposed 1 stop using the Nikon FM2 with the 50mm f/1.8 lens. Absolutely loved how some of these shots came out.

Bali was so quiet during Covid...it was definitely weird to see places like tanah lot empty...nice shots, i like the uncertainty that goes with every shots, is it properly exposed, is it in focus...that's what i like when i shoot full manual with a manual lens and the screen turned off...waiting few days or weeks before checking the pictures on the computer. Hey Sean, nice to see you trying film. Although not too old, I’m in photography for 47 years, so I grew up with developers and I was drinking fixers, hahaha... 7 Leicas, 2 Hasselblads, 6 Nikons, 2 Pentax 67, some Rollei and Fuji 6x9 too in 30 years of my film life. Then, digital arrived... I would love to shoot film again, my Leica M3 is crying, but I’m oh, SO lazy to develop the photos...

It amazes me you can underexpose two rolls of film on a trip. The Nikon FM2 has one of the most reliable and accurate lightmeters in 35mm SLRs. Professionals have used the FM2 as a handy backup camera. Its compact shape was in tune with many camera makers who tried to make their gear lighter. Nikon made the FM2 lighter but did not sacrifice quality. Still love film photography, just wish we had more color/E6 labs too.
@DursTuckle

If you're coming from digital to analog, it's easy to unintentionally underexpose. The inverse is true as well

Before I begin let me just say I wish I found you sooner. Just found you on skillshare and watching your newest class. You are super easy to watch and understand. Great content so far. I am hoping you can help me. I have a canon sl2 which of course is a crop sensor camera. I have the 18-55 and want to upgrade but not break the bank I just purchased the Sigma 100mm and the 10-18 mm and the 50 mm. My style of photography is landscape, street, and night time photos. I was thinking the 50 and 100 are great for nighttime and street and the 10-18 for landscape and vlogging. What do you think? Is there a better lens I could have gone with? TIA

Hey,can u do a video about how to get everything in focus in landscape images when taking wide and tight shots,when there are two subjects really close and far(landscape),where to focus, aperture,.. plz it will really helpful for beginner photographers like me
@Mr.Anders0n_
@Mr.Anders0n_ 3 года назад
Getting more things in focus is called "a deep depth of field" and you achieve this by increasing the aperture, which is easy for daylight landscapes because there's a lot of light to go around. I recommend playing around with simulator: www.canonoutsideofauto.ca/play/ It helped me a lot when I became interested in photography because it took me while before i was able to buy my first camera. Have fun!

Do you think you can share a little more about the process of shooting film? You always said when shooting digital you shoot in aperture priority is the same with film ? or in this case you have to go with the exposure? sorry these are basic questions for begginers but maybe you can cover that :)thank u
@seandalt
@seandalt 3 года назад
Good question :) Apologies for the late reply. I usually shoot film in full manual because exposure is very very important, and the old meters aren't as reliable as the new ones. If I am shooting with a newer film camera I'll use aperture priority, but I believe shooting full manual is one of the beautiful parts of film!
@darkjolie
@darkjolie 3 года назад
@@seandalt never is too late :) I have a Pentax k100 and I’ve tried two films the past month first one black and white exposure priority and some pictures were very dark some other were ok even respecting the meter one point under pictures were sooo underexposed second film I did play a little more but all of them are underexposed so I don’t even know if the meter is working properly or it’s my non experience shooting film because some pictures were ok and you helped me a lot with digital so I’m very intrigued about film
@seandalt
@seandalt 3 года назад
@@darkjolie Its possible your light meter is busted. I recommend using one of the light meter apps on the App Store! They’re amazing. Also, try metering for the shadows to ensure your photos aren’t underexposed. You can test the light meter on your camera against the iPhone app to see if it lines up
