Nonhlanhla Mkwanazi I guess it’s fun to take the time to shit on someone’s reply to a comment with an unrelated commentary set to the awesome tune of baseless assumptions. All joking aside Nonhlanhla, my experience is quite similar, except about 6 mins in I start to think about how Winston will turn the story around and make me smile at the end. And to my own pleasant surprise I am almost never right. But outside of that yes that pretty much perfectly describes my experience.

The issue there is that it is self absorbed, however the connotation of being “enraptured by how amazing you are” doesn’t apply in the context, the denotation of being “focused on yourself” is. She isn’t convinced that she’s too amazing or important to foster relationships, what she is, is fixated on this idea that she isn’t amazing, she isn’t important, and the fact that she exists at all is in direct conflict with that school of thought so she struggles to overcome it. And that struggle directs her attention away from those that could help her, and towards just... herself... and her place in the world. And because humans in general tend to have such a hard time seeing that in others unless explicitly told and shown, and even still some times our own biases and perceptions will cause us to not believe the facts in front of us, we as humans will just assume that the person we desperately want to hang out with and be with is choosing not to be with us because they are better than us, or at least they believe they are better than us. And that..... that just sucks man.

@Jinn Welcome to dealing with people who have suffered ego-breaking experiences. Sometimes the only way to keep holding on to something hopeful is to disconnect it from everyone else, at which point we wonder if there is any value in the ways we _do_ connect with others.

The writer is older than all the hipster movement, and in several comics he has made some jokes about the hipster mentality. It's really ironic for him to be considered one. Not to mention, that Safra's depression personified literally looks like a hipster.

This show to me seems like the crowning swan song of that version of Cracked. A method of helping people to recontextualise their own lives rather than media or culture and understand how they're not alone in the traits they might think are idiosyncratic and incomprehensible yet are shared in one form or another by loads of people. To me, cracked has always been about giving a voice to overlooked topics and clever dissection of the accompanying materials. Very cool series.

I think it's because alot of the problems they face are just first world melodramatic stuff. Ohhh life is so hard ohh jeez and that's every character. Ohh my love life is messed up and ohh jeez being a creative type is hard and gosh darn I feel so saddd.

I've watched this series so many times because I love the long rambling. It feels human unlike so much media out there. It feels less like an escape from reality and more like a photo of reality. Something you can actually relate to. Idk that's why I like it so much

This video is hard to watch because I could be narcissistic like Safra.. people think that by criticizing Safra it takes away from her mental illness. She isn't perfect and no one is. I catch myself grabbing the entire conversation sometimes... I literally have to check in sometimes.

What do you expect? People Watching Season 2 is essentially a lost magnum opus from a brilliant dead lover dedicated to you. Its not complaining, its mourning.

I was super excited and waited for what felt like a lifetime for this season. I'm so happy its here. I love this mini show.

I watch People Watching like some people watch The Man In The High Castle. Serves as a reminder of how horrible the world would be if everyone in the world around you shifted to one side of the political spectrum. These hipsters are insufferable.

Sometimes you miss the chance for friendship because your head isn't in the right place. If you are deeply depressed and anxious it is very hard to connect with people. Like Safra said if someone compliments her she thinks they are making fun of her, sometimes your brain twists everything around and makes the world seem harsh and oppressive. I've been living with depression since I was a teenager and some days are good and some days not so much. The ending of this makes me hope and wish that there is someone out there who would be willing to cross time and space for me and never give up on me no matter how many times it takes.

Literally nothing stops you from just exchanging numbers/names so you can be facebook friends and either never talking again or maybe being friends some day when you feel better. I could understand this if they had just said hi but they had a whole deep conversation

Honestly her character doesn't really grow through the episodes, when we meet her in the "Dating Someone With Depression" we can relate with her inability to form connections because of her isolating mental illness. I believe she represents all the individuals with mental illnesses who can recognize their destructive tendencies but also relies on their illness to keep them from growing and allowing it to continue controlling them. Friendship and Love are a fantasy to Safra, she speaks of it with openness but she's not brave enough to stop hiding behind her depression and allow her true self to experience companionship.

TwentyPoints ToGriffindor: True there comes a point as an adult when you have choose to try to make that fantasy a reality, even if it means getting taking a chance on help that might not work or you can just simply use your self-acknowledged destructive behaviours as an excuse to hide behind, to not bother then expect others to listen and give sympathy for something you don't want to change which is what Safra is doing here. Having a mental illness can hold you back, but if you're aware of it and choose to not even try to find coping mechanisms or seek help to grow, then isn't that still a form of self-absorption. "Its too hard" or "I just can't" without trying just means you don't want to expend the energy for chance at the dream, so you complain the dream is out for reach due to whatever the issue is holding you back, and expect others to validate or even support this sad circle going round and round. Self-growth isn't easy especially with mental illnesses/disorders, it doesn't always work, it's not a quick fix, it takes effort, a willingness to keep on going and you might never get where you thought you would. However, it's always worth the effort even for small improvements and what you might learn about your self along the way. You're right the woman they have presented is still the same one we saw previously, she has grown in age but hasn't seemed to try to work on what she moans (both then and now) is holding her back. Edit: I still think her personality has a clear self-absorbed​ and selfish streak which is in addition to Mental issues

This isn't the only video that revolves around this character that deals with her detached habits. There was a really good video that depicted her depression as a villain, basically talking her into her self doubt and severe introversion to the point that she purposefully ruins her relationships because her depression and anxiety weighs her down too much to hold any relationship. I think this video is a result of her almost trying to combat her anxieties, but ultimately still giving into her tendencies by cutting off a relationship before it starts. I don't think she's doing it purposefully or inadvertently out of malice, but rather that part of her coping mechanism is her believing that her presence is generally a nuisance in people's life because of her inability to connect to people so she would rather not even put people in a position where that would be the case.

I'd love to be your friend, really. Its just that... with all of the factors going on in my life right now... I just don't feel as though I have what it takes to be a friend. . Ha. Just kidding. I'll be your friend! 😃

I definitely relate to her. That’s basically what it’s like to have Autism. You think you are connecting with people, but it turns out they don’t like you. It’s frustrating. I’m giving it one more year . . . For romance and friendship.

am I the only one who doesn't have this problem??? I think maybe leaving the US might help cuz it forces you to build connections and relationships. It's always gotta be mutual though. If someone doesn't want to hang with me. I leave them alone. Move on with life and keep meeting new people. Befriending people for me atleast isn't difficult and I'm an INTJ

lordblazer The US doesn’t really have areas where people can just casually come together and hopefully make friends. Like the lounge in a college dorm, or a group sport. So it usually takes most people a lot of effort just to consistently meet the same people. And also, people work too much or have to take care of their kids to the point they don’t have time for anything else. Also, most people barely have enough money to survive, so where will they find money to do leisurely activities to make friends? Which sucks. That’s probably why it’s hard for a lot of people to make and maintain friendships. Oh! There is also the selfish/don’t know how to make friends factor. I know there are some people that want a certain level of friendship but are unwilling to reciprocate the type of friendship the other person wants so that friendship deteriorates. No shocker there.

They did bring up fighting bosses, perhaps this is more like Rick & Morty's Roy: A Life Well Lived.

How ethical this is really depends on what the culture of the future regards it as, in my opinion. It can be frowned upon or it can be common knowledge that some people are really lonely people and going back in time to relive singular/multiple moments is excusable, as long as the actions being carried out in the past aren't unethical by nature, perhaps. (Like going back in time to "take advantage" of someone, for example would be unethical but to go back in time to simply have a conversation you wouldn't elsewhere may be fine.)

Rather than treating it solely as a game level, I believe it also is a reflection that regardless of the time period people can feel so desperate for a true friend that they are willing to go to any length to make it into a reality. Safra even speaks on how great it would be to connect with those people you miss by a few seconds to a couple of hundred years. Mal simply represents this by actually doing so, manipulative for sure but her intentions are to bring happiness and companionship to both of their lives which dilutes the controlling nature of it all

It may not be all bad. While doing that may be changing your own life for the better, the fact that you are so deeply compatible may allow you to make the other person's life better too

I'd argue that all human interactions are a form of manipulation with different degrees of impact and consequence

I was actually expecting her (or them?) to go back in time and try to avoid small talk. I think that would have hit me harder with the whole resection personal boundaries despite it being obvious it would be better if they tried being friends.

IT IS STALKING. there are times i love this show, and times i really hate it, like about talking loudly in cinemas being ok (it's not. watch it at home then). you have an advantage of background information, and time travel to keep trying to force someone to be your friend. this is not a situation where forcing yourself into someone's life is ok, not when the reason is so selfish.

Tekiruru - no, she’s not faking her accent, it’s genuine alright...I think it’s just that the voice actress isn’t particularly good, so her performance sounds kind of clunky 😐. Generally speaking I do enjoy this series, but the quality of dialogue & voice acting can be inconsistent... EDIT: Having now watched the video in its entirety, I wondered for a moment whether that ‘clunkiness’ was intentional on the actress’s part, given what we discover at the end (contributing to her somewhat unnatural delivery/awkwardness)... that’s if I was going to be generous. If I wasn’t, then, yeah...maybe it just comes down to, it wasn’t the greatest performance. But just my opinion.
