This is the moment we we're all waiting for, test firing the little colt shorts with 8.5 gns of H777, .38 long colt with 149gn LRNFP .3.gn of HP-38 and 149gn LRNFP and 13.0gns of H-777, all loads performed wonderfully not a bad lot in the bunch, these little rounds are the answer to those whom wish to use cartridges instead of loose powder and ball.

Nice series on the 38 Colts. I love them for the fast reloading in matches where power is not a factor.

LB4L: Enjoyed your 38 Long and short Colt posting very much (as usual). One comment re. the HP-38 loads being so slow. I have found in 38 spl (and I suspect same is true although perhaps to a lesser extent in lesser volume 38 Long Colt cases) that HP-38 is very position sensitive in the case. If firearm is raised nose up then lowered to firing position then cocked and fired with powder against primer, the velocities are 200+ fps greater than when it is tipped down then raised level to firing position with powder against bullet base. I use Lee cast 105gr SWC in .38 spl cases in my replica 1872 Colt open top with 3.8gr of HP-38 . (disclaimer to all ; SAFE IN MY GUNS MAY NOT BE IN YOURS) You might try repeating your HP-38 loadings with above maneuvers. Of course, no such issues with BP or T7 with completely filled cases. All of these .38 cases (short and long Colts and .38 SPL of course were initially designed for BP. I look forward to your future postings. Similar findings have been posted by old ranger on his channel by the way. Keep up the good work. Doris J

A lot of people on the Internet, including some very reputable gun writers and shooters, believe that the 1851 and 1861 Navy is the equivalent or less than the 380 ACP and should not be used for self-defense. Videos like yours here prove them wrong with your chronograph data. I’ve always maintained that the Navy is actually more like a snubnose or even 4 inch standard 38 special and even that is somewhat misleading because we are not talking about a .357 LRN bullet. We are talking about .375 conical and flat nose bullets that will not behave like a .357 LRN. The actual record of the navy revolver in history speaks for itself

if David Tutt can be kill with 1 shot from a 36 caliber ball at 75 yards then it makes you wonder why the 36 caliber has be around sooo long, be cause it works. BTW thank you for your subscription my friend.i try to watch as many black powder video's possible and enjoy then all and yours are no exception.
