@@barefootdoctorssailing8567 Not at all. I thought about writing to you both when I heard about your challenges/ But now tho, I/we see you's is doin just what destiny designed. My English written is not the best but, my guess is that won't interfere with my points. cheers I might have some history that may be of interest to you Lady, maybe some day in private com...
Yes it makes you feel so alive Ian, and funny thing is that John’s eyes become a deeper blue when we are out , ! Unexplainable …… believe it or not ..,,
The ol` Wyoming kid is sure glad to see ya back on the wattah! We have snow comin` next week....not sure if I am ready...but the fall colors are just great here this year...Cheers!
It’s so wonderful to see you both back on the water! Your ability to adapt to your smaller boat is a testament to all of us what humbling people you both are and a lesson in the quality of life and not the quantity 😁 Thank you! I’m so excited that you are returning to Indianapolis and before moving to NM seven years ago, I was residing in Ohio. If I was still living there I would be the first in line to meet you both. Have fun and please take us with you through your fabulous videos 🥰
Hey Mango, thanks for your generous words. We would love to meet you in person, maybe one day we will, till then know that when we speak down the camera, it is to people like you that we doing it for! ❤️
We're jealous!! That's the way to get back on the path. Best wishes from desert sands.. and we hope that'll be us some day. We know you've lost a lot, but you have so much that so many dream of!
Hi guys, yep a lesson in not giving up on your dream no matter the set back. Keep going and keep your dream in front of you all the time and do something every day to inch closer bit by bit. Sending good thoughts right back at ya!
So good to see you enjoying the sweet life again. Watching your small boat sailing is so refreshing. It brings back memories of the days of my youth; sailing dinghys and racing my NACRA 5.2 cat . Many happy years ahead for you both.
Good morning what a relaxing time you are having also connecting back with this wonderful world we live in.my mouth was watering at the sight of the delicious food you certainly sold the lifestyle to me 👍🏻🥳😇
Thanks Chewbear feels so good to be back out there. Looking forward to the Annapolis boat show and catching up with Friends old and new! Cheers for watching
Welcome back to your big family of sailing sailor ,the people of the sea have the most beautiful freedom and well-being , have a nice day both of you , Hello from Monaco ( My handwriting is translated by google translate i hope it's good !! ) Best Regards Patrick
My hubby, Mark, and I (Holly) will be at Annapolis Boat Show next weekend. So delighted to hear you guys are coming to the show. See you there soon…safe travels :)
Hi Mark and Holly, we will be at the RU-vidrs tent on Saturday at 4pm and the Leopard event for owners at 6pm on Friday. Also walking around the show every day... Hope we catch up!
Hi Paul you know that excited feeling you get in your gut… that was what we both felt leaving the marina, although we hadn’t quite got our McGregor sea legs, and departing was a bit ordinary till we got the hang of it! Thanks for watching !
Hopefully ya'll find a New Boat 🚢 at the show. And show us some videos 📹 of the Boat 🚢 show. Ok until next week Aloha from the Big Island 🏝 of Hawaii 🏝
Back in the '70s and '80s there was a place near where I sailed in Newport Beach, CA that sold MacGregors. I'd drive by and see the low prices on the new boats and be tempted to buy one but ended up getting a racing catamaran, a NACRA 5.8. They had just started producing them. They were an exciting boat to sail but I had trouble getting anyone who wanted to come out sailing with me. I think if I'd gone the MacGregor or similar I would have had more takers.
When you two are out having a good time there are flashes where it's like the years suddenly roll away from you and I can clearly see what you were like in your youth. Whether it's genetics, lifestyle or whatever, that's something I rarely see.
Lovely little boat and seems to sail nicely. Brought big smiles to you both getting back out there. Smashing dinner menu, I LOVE raw oysters, but they get pretty pricey here in restaurants. You'd think it would be more reasonable in Florida! LOL So wish I could get to the boat show, but maybe someday.
@@rumblechick73 We are heading to Georgia and then down to the Florida Keys.... Not so far from you but we still don't really know what will happen as we will likely go over the Europe in a few weeks if no sailing opportunities arise....
Living the life guys :) so great to see you back on the water, Just have to say maybe its not the boat ! but the people (you ) that make this work so well :) just really happy for you and so good to see the smiles ad fun back in your life :) love as always ,Jim from Germany :)
Hi Jim, thanks yes we laughed again a lot! It was nice to feel the salty wind on our faces again! Hope life in Germany is treating you well! Much love 👣
Hi, I am from Northern Ireland and we have a local saying that we use to encourage people who are really trying however, I have been reluctant in the circumstances to say it to you guys but, what the hell. " Keep Her Lit " love you guys to bits. Reg.
Lovely anchorage. I am so sad to be missing Annapolis boat show this year. It would have been great to meet you both and give you a proper squeeze!!! Hope you’ll do a shot episode for those of us who can’t join you.
Good to see you sooooo happy enjoying Mini Dash and the lovely anchorage! I am sure you'll have good time at Annapolis. Scout carefully for the new boat and let us know your opinion on each one you will visit. Love, Giampaolo
Hi Giampaolo, yep we will be scoping out the floating talent at the boat show and sharing it with you. We are getting our mojo back !! Much love from us 👣
Hey Guys, Being a sailing channel nutbar I watch loads of different boat projects. One channel I watch is Sailing Dauntless. This family recently bought a Leopard 50 that was lost in a harbour/ party /sandbar incident. Check them out I think they are going to sell it once it is refurbished. Might get you on the water at a good time and price. Cheers
Thanks for the info , thinking we might look at boats in the Med considering that was our next destination after crossing the Atlantic so makes sense to look there! Will keep you posted !
We own a 2011 MacGregor 26M in South Carolina. PLEASE do a video on your transom step add-on. PLEASE! We need to see how it is attached to the boat, top side and underneath and what materials were used. We love our Mac, but we use it mostly at a huge man made lake (Lake Hartwell), which has a strange shore line that's not conducive to swimming. See: you go from shore to many feet deep in just a few yards. Seriously, you could make a mint just off of selling the plans to that transom step/swim platform. It's the only feature on the MacGregor 26X and 26M that's really lacking.
Who said size matters! Great weekend get away on the McGregor! I’ll be at the show in Annapolis, and hope to meet you there. A get together Friday evening would be wonderful around the other events!
Hi Marie, we will be at the RU-vidrs tent on Saturday at 4pm and the Leopard event for owners at 6pm on Friday. Also walking around the show every day... Hope we catch up!
Hey guys the nature of our aid work Covid and mental Health allows for permission. We have delivered aid for many years in different parts of the world and we are still doing that but just add “Covid” related in the mix this time. Cheers for following the journey!
Good to see you two back on the water. I would be worried about eating oysters that are out in the sun. Here in South Africa we usually only eat ones that have been submerged to lesson the chance of vibrio.
Yes thanks Jerry. We worked out that it needs the rudder down at low speeds in the marina but I didn’t know we should have daggerboard down so thanks for that! I usually only did that when there was a crosswind - always learning!
Hello Dr John and Dr Eli, I will be at the Annapolis Boat Show on Saturday as well and would love the opportunity to introduce myself and say hello. I will also be at the Leopard reception on Friday night. I hope the timing works out to meet!
Hey Vito, we will definitely be at the Leopard event on Friday night so we can see you then and we will be at the RU-vidrs tent at 4pm on Saturday too. Please come up and introduce yourself at either of those events (or elsewhere in the show!) See you there!
Hi Robin no insurance payout yet but we are not waiting for them before exploring our options. Buy the time they pay up we may have a plan! Thanks for watching !
@@barefootdoctorssailing8567 I looked at a Macgregor 26 when shortlisting for my yacht - but they are overpriced here in SA and thus removed it from my shortlist.
Great to see you out and thanks for sharing your favourite spot. Small question out of a lack of knowledge would rigging a small weather vain type sail aft of the deck help keep the boat pulling true to the anchor rather than going breeched to the wind and dragging?🤔 Have fun on your trip ... if you see one go take a look at a Silent Yatch... and ask them about their tech.😉😎 Cheap alternative to sailing gloves..and possibly better have a look at what they describe as tactical gloves from online markets.. 👍🏻. Crazy idea but I would be fascinated to see how a light wt boat like yours would perform under a large parra wing kite. Ideally it needs to be a two line steerable aerofoil chute on longer lines. The higher you can go the more stable the wind and easier it is to control the kite. BTW Basalt fiber and reinforcement in boats owes its origin to the need to find a non corroding replacement for steel reinforcements in Concrete structures..Spray.concrete Domes in particular.... as its a man formed natural rock derived material it has the advantage of being more chemically stable than steel...with similar mechanical properties. Plus it takes a lot to melt... take a look at the La Palma and Icelandic lava flows.😬. It is energy intensive to produce but so is glass, steel and Al from ore. Hey Clive, thanks for all that info! Ketch rigged boats two masts with small one at stern) do what you are suggesting and that is good when anchored with single bow anchor but if you are beaching your would not use a sail - too much force if the wind direction changes. We have seen the Silent yacht promos - very interesting but more a power boat with downwind sail assistance only. Thanks for the basalt info and your support!!!
@@barefootdoctorssailing8567 I was thinking something triangular the size of bath towel literally act as a weather vane to move a floating stern round at anchor. Sailing Wildings have a elderly ketch rigged Commanche Cat they are getting to grips with. As for steerable parra kite sailing they can work up to a 100deg off from the wind from what i gather.. The main limit seems to be in conditions where the wind drops suddenly and repeatedly. As for the Silent yatch i was thinking more about its potential hybrid propulsion mode system. It looks like more builders of all types are looking at Electric Diesel hybrid propulsion systems.
It is really simple - there is a lever to open on the stern and an air vent/ bung forward under rate bow V berth to open to allow the air to come in. When water starts coming through the bung hole, close it it off and then close the stern lever. Very simple. The drain, just one the two up when you are out of the water or when you are in the water motoring at more than 6 knots...
Has Leopard shown any interest in getting involved investigating the fire on your boat? From things I've heard they seem to be a very good company when it comes to after purchase support.
HEY GUYS, WE WILL BE AT THE RU-vidrs tent on Saturday at 4pm and the Leopard event for owners at 6pm on Friday. Also walking around the show every day... Hope we catch up!
Hey Greg, Leopard do not say we can beach the boats anywhere and I do not know the strength of the sacrificial keels... I think they don’t want to take the risk as it is not designed for that. Perhaps after a few years I may start but bit reluctant on a new boat! If it fell off , you can just silicone or glue it back on (after the embarrassment is over!
You usually get what you pay for.... There are significantly less comforts in the 26 footer but also less liability and cost at every marina / service / repair / clean / refuelling. Like with all things nautical, there are compromises and each person decides what is best suited for them...
Our Globle aid work started before Covid and will continue after it has become just another virus we live with. This give the permission to continue our work abroad .
This was like watching an alien documentary from another planet. Divided by a common language. It wasn't until 12:54 (video timecode) where you *_finally_* say where in the heck this was shot. The previous video from you guys had you in Florida (I think), but searching map databases for the island names turned up nothing obviously correct. You even had a half second (0.5) of capturing your GPS's display but thathad no useful clues. Then you guys babble a bit in Aussie lingo and mention what turned out to be names of beach or camping food. Of course it was presented several minutes _before_ being defined. Even the video title had me expecting obscure measurement units (like milli furlongs).
Sorry about that Wally John left it out this time, I agree should be in to show where we are. We are still in Aus that was Brampton Island Queensland . Just off Mackay and the Whitsunday islands. The 26M reference is the model of the Macgregor boat relating to it being 26 foot and the M version has higher decks to make the internal space bigger. Certainly that was for the Macgregor sailors who would know and care about it but before we bought one, we did not know the models either...
