396 bbc Versus 436 bbc stroker 

I've had my 68 Camaro for 30 years the 396 still puts a smile on my face when I put the pedal to the metal, great video keep them coming

Everybody turns their noses up at the 396/402. I’ve always liked them. People should go look at pure stock drag races. The L78 ran just as good as the LS6. Hell, an L78 Nova was hard to beat. One of These days I’ll build the 70 L78 I have in my shop. Really like your channel.

Great job, I didn't know that it was that easy as far crank/ rod clearance! I looked at my 396 for years trying to figure out what to do with it. I'll be keeping that in mind for the future, great combo!

I plan on putting a good set of oval port heads and airgap intake for street use. It should make 500 hp+...

I took a 396 and put a 454 crank in it and made a 440 cu.in. .070" bored over, 10.5 comp. It was a 408" .060" 396"...

Had to clearance for rods on one side of block, probably core shift. Block was a 4 bolt mains 66 block...

I'd like to see a side-by-side comparison of a standard bore/stroke bbc 454 and a bbc 402 with a 4.25 stroker crank. Both combos make 454 cubes.

Sometimes you nail a combination and you should just leave it alone,, I never do, I keep messing with it but I would think twice before I changed that 427. Those are killer killer numbers. And I understand you got some good pieces in it. But that's still. Bad a**

Nice combo and great results, just goes to show you that there's more than one way to skin a cat, how much more could you have gotten out of the 408 with cam and alluminum heads with a little more compression and flow, and how would that stack up parts and labor wise to the stroker build, including machine shop. I still think that dollar for dollar, nitrous oxide is the easiest way to add power without losing drivability, and when setup properly it will blow your mind more than your motor lol. Keep rolling......

Most of the old hi perf blocks will also bore to 4.25. I like bootleggers cams. Nice recipe on motor.

Hey nick I'm a huge fan of big block chevys I have a 0.60 over 427 so a 439 it's a simple build it's around 10.5 to1 compression afr 265 roval port heads victor jr. Intake atm 950 carb and a howards 235x241 @50 618 lift on a 108 lsa the motor made really good hp best pull was 661 hp 605 torque @6400 rpm I think with a lil more camshaft it would do better I'd like more duration a few people told me the cam I picked was perfect for my combo what's your thoughts on this I do have a comp xr 292 solid roller I think it's 254x260@50 and 650x666 lift on a 110 lsa I'm thinking it would pick up 20 to 30 hp with the cam swap if not I'll hold on to it for my 496 build. That is a good looking 55 in the background let me know what you think on my combo any advice would be appreciated thanks your friend from Louisiana Rick 427

in the 70's car magazines were claiming that a 1966 396 block could be punched out to 4.25" bore. How true was that?

I have a 400 and eventually want a stout big block. It's nice to know how much a stroker crank helps. How is the camel hump head 400 build coming along?

Hey Nick do you have any experience with the gen 6 vortec 7.4 heads? I have a set and i have a 396 block but not sure if they will interchange?they have a big swirl ramp in the intake port and they have a very tight chamber.

I'd like to know what the 436 would do if it was set up just like the 408.

Just curious, wouldn't a 408 CID be a .060" overbore 396? Since .030" over is 402 CID. My pump gas +.030" 402 made 441 HP. Small dome Speed Pro pistons, stock 049 heads, 9.6:1 compression. Flat tappet .553"/.578" lift, 234*/244* @ .050, RPM intake, 850 Holley. Sounds mean, but with good street manners with a 3,000 stall converter, fun to drive. Thanks for this video, engine is 25 years old and still strong, but will look at stroking it thanks to your excellent sharing of this combo.

Is your 436 engine external balanced with the 454 crankshaft?

I did a 1970 402 .40 over 2 bolt main, 10.00:1 with and eagle 4.00" crank for internally balanced big blocks, stock oval port 3964290 head castings with 2.06/1.72 valves, no porting, hydraulic roller camshaft .566 lift with 230/230 @ .50 112 LSA Edelbrock Performer RPM AirGap. 421HP/510TQ. It's the original engine, trans, axle in a real SS. It came out to be 436 ci. I don't want to break it. That's impressive what you've done. What head casting are you using?

You don't like e85? I ask because you just talked about race gas. I mean I get the consistency of it can change just need a tester.

People make such a big deal about compression techy... bla bla bla bla bla. Look at 454 motor home build with trick Flo top end kit. 8.2 compression and almost 570HP! Can run 87 pump gas all day!
