It makes me smile that you are passing on your expertise and skills down to the younger generation. He looks like he is watching you like a hawk and listening to your every word. What a way to leave a legacy.
Almost 10 minutes in and it's obvious Celeb is a natural on the camera. Hope so see more of him on the channel later on, who knows we may see the beginnings of the Rosa school of luthiery in the future
My apologies for the looong delay in commenting, just came off the road after 9 straight months - no lockdown for me, I guess. WELL DONE, Caleb! Honestly, I prefer a repair of that magnitude to be visible, just to show the skill of the repairer. Also, I was hoping for a few licks that are more consistent with that fine red bandanna. Yes, I guy can be as old as Jerry and still like that stuff!
Caleb is gonna do well Jerry. He is already very good at talking to the camera and explaining what he's doing. I pray it works out because it will be better for Rosa String Works!
Caleb has better reasoning and planning skills than most adults I know. Good job Caleb, and fantastic work Jerry, taking a young man with the right attitude and teaching him a skill that very few have.
I like him. He has great potential. He's mechanically inclined. He explains things well on camera and by the looks of his T shirts, he has great taste in music. WTG Caleb!!!
I saw Caleb doing a repair on a Gibson here in September and decided to go back to his first repair. ANd WOW< he has come a very long way in 4 months. He has a real natural touch and gift with his hands and he learns very quickly. I think if he sticks with it he will become a premier craftsman and guitar repair master in no time. Very proud of you Caleb for all your dedication and hard work!!! Working on guitars is somewhat of a lost art as not many guys or gals decide to take up an honest trade. Also, there is an art to this trade and you seem to have that gift of being able to SEE what something will look like in three dimensions. Can't wait to see you on your 1-year anniversary project. Keep at it Son!!!!
Caleb, I don't know what good fortune you had that dropped you in the lap of such a master craftsman, But cherish it! For these times will follow you for the rest of your life. You are both blessed to have each other.
Well done Caleb! Hope we will be seeing you around for years. Jerry, I think it's wonderful that you are passing on the craft to a new generation of craftspeople. We have to keep the old skills alive.
What a great first repair. Caleb has a lot of potential to fit into your shop. At his age to have the ability to do what he is shown is a true gift. That first guitar reno will certainly be a keeper for Caleb. Can't wait to see more of his work.
Kid's got skills, Jerry... And a heck of a teacher! Caleb, I hope you realize how lucky you are, not many get that kind of opportunity. Keep working hard.
Boy Jerry gets a lot of comments! Great to see the kindness for Caleb! I cannot imagine stepping into a spotlight such as this, what a brave fellow. Best wishes to him!
Looking forward to watching Caleb grow as a young man and a instrument repairman. Jerry, it makes my heart warm to see you passing on this skill to a young person. Long after we're gone he'll still be here restoring family heirlooms and making the world a more beautiful place by helping to keep music in it.
Man I like him. Didn’t take his eye off the break, his mind already whirling, figuring out how to fix it. (I’m only 2.35mins in btw!) welcome Caleb! And thanks again Jerry
Came straight to the comments 2.53 mins in to see if anyone else saw that, his reaction actually brought a tear to my eye, the way he was craning his head, cogs turning, just that moment lifted my day
Caleb!! Awesome work, buddy! A lot of people do not possess the patience it takes to be a good woodworker, but you are going to be very skilled at it. Congratulations, you did a great job.
Well Caleb, you did an awesome job kid. I wish I was you and could learn these skills, so please work hard and keep loving what your doing. Then you'll bring a lot of happiness to a lot of your, customers. Well done son.
Excellent video! Caleb seems to know what he's doing already, and he's coming along well as a presenter too. You guys are indeed lucky to have found each other.
It is sooo nice to see a young man that seems to be truly interested in learning this trade. So many young folks have an entitled attitude and don't realize that nothing worthwhile comes easy. keep up the good work Caleb.
Pretty darn nice work Cale. Really nice in fact. Your color match is so close. It hides the repair well. No color blind there. Come on Jerry it's a little dig. Much respect my friend.
Go Caleb! Thoroughly enjoyed watching him learn. Making mistakes is how we all started! Keep it up and let's see some more Caleb, I want to follow him to greatness.
Caleb, Firstly, welcome to the Channel. Secondly you seem to be in the right frame of mind to learn from Jerry. I've been repairing my own guitars for 25 years and I'm not as accomplished as he is. Don't be in a rush to gain independence, rather take the opportunity to learn about Jerry as well as the process. Then someday you'll find yourself in a fix, and you'll say, "WWJD!" That's when preparation meets opportunity, and all of of a sudden "luck" becomes your companion in tough situations. BTW, you have a great persona for the video part of the job. Be yourself and we'll all have your back when (if) things go wrong. Ignore idiots!
Take it easy... I have the feeling he's been watching you! It came out better than MY first project!. Wait... Mines not done yet... Oh, well, it'll STILL be better!
For a first crack at fixing a right mess of a guitar I think Caleb has done a fantastic job! Love the bandana, I think Jerry should start wearing one too
GJ Caleb.. Man I used to work with an old wood carver years ago helping him in the shop. He used to grump, fuss and tell me how i screwed up. He became like a second dad to me. I learned a lot and I'm sure you will too. Good luck sir I wish you well.
That young man did great, he seems to read your directions very well. Caleb did very good speaking to the audience. This was a great introduction to your apprentice, and he did a great job, starting from scratch.
Thanks, Jerry. This was a very entertaining segment. I wish that I were a young whippersnapper like Caleb, so you could take me under your wing. Congratulations, Caleb!
It's all about progress, not perfection. 👍😊 And having watched a few of Caleb's repairs now, the lad's progressing well. Having watched your previous video Jerry when you were pondering the appointment of an apprentice🤔. I am so glad for both of you, that you made the right decision. 👍🤗👍
The new guy is doing an awesome amazing job. He listens and follows drictrions very well. I think he will be a great Luther in time. Jerry you are lucky to have him. And he is very Blessed to find a great teacher like you. Awesome video thanks for sharing.
Jerry I do believe you may have a keeper !!! He seems like he is eager to listen and learn and follow your direction!! Caleb, keep your room clean and Enjoy your learning and work !!! It's heartwarming to see a young man with an Awesome work ethic !!! God Bless you all and thank you all for the video's !!!!
"If you do something before you do something else...", said the Jedi Master to his young Jedi apprentice. Great episode. That wood under the nut looked frail, it was so thin.
First off well done and welcome Caleb for getting to have what all of us would like to have and that is to have Mr Rosa as our own personal ( in person ) TEACHER. Jerry we have a winner.
Well what can you say Caleb is a natural by the look of it .If he keeps performing and takes on your instruction and does as well as he's started off then I think he will go a long way.Master and apprentice may the force be with both of you.I'm from across the pond in the good old U.K. Tamworth,in staffordshire . I look forward to seeing more of Caleb in the future and hope that the two of you really get on like a house on fire. I love your video's . God bless the both of you and keep you safe. Keep on trucking all the best to your family.Bob T.
Pretty good job for his first difficult task! Speed was/is always my problem, I do a good job but take too long about it! Caleb is a very lucky young man to have the opportunity to learn top luthier skills with one of the finest luthiers in the USA. If he sticks to his task he will be setup for life. Thanks for posting Jerry and Caleb!
Caleb. You did amazing on that guitar. It must have felt a wee bit intimidating but you rocked it. At the time of my comment you will have been doing this for a year now. I would hire you in a heartbeat. You have a calling for sure. Congrats on doing so well and not quitting in the middle of that. That is the biggest skill to learn in life..
Congrats Caleb! Keep up the great work and soak up every ounce you can learn from Jerry! I’m jealous of the opportunity you have dude. And thank you Jerry for giving a young person an opportunity!
Great job Caleb!!!! I'm thinking Jerry skipped several levels of apprenticeship here to get you to a complicated repair job. I envy you. I have always thought I'd like to work in a luthier's shop and get to do what you just did and what Jerry does all the time. Keep it up.
