This video will explain how I made two artworks in 2.5D and 3D using the Grease Pencil tool in Blender.
I decided to learn and try grease pencil while I was studying arms and hands, this is kinda like a follow-up video of: • Studying Anatomy - Arm...
The tutorials I followed to be able to do this are:
Dedouze:
• Blender 2D/3D for begi...
Sophie Jantak:
• Beginner grease pencil...
• Grease pencil trick: d...
Follow me on social media since I post my artwork there before uploading their video here!

I really enjoyed this video! And am so honoured that my tutorials helped :D I appreciate that you shared the ups and downs of the learning process, and love the mindset that what matters most is what you learn from a piece, not making it perfect. Can't wait to see more of what you make in Blender!

I love to see people like you experimenting and pushing the envelope of what Blender can do. I noticed in your sculpting the muscles that there was a lot of unnecessary texture and you kept needed to smooth it out. Here's a tip: sculpt at a lower resolution as a first past. You will have a lot more control over bigger forms. Later you can go back as a higher resolution if you want more details (like veins!). Keep it up! You are an inspiration.
@marianarira
@marianarira 2 года назад
Thank you and thanks for the tip! To complement your advice: next time, I’ll start with big shapes that don’t need a detailed mesh, part of my problem was that I started sculpting the ears, and since they’re small and complex, I needed the resolution but later for the muscles it was too much. So, lower resolution and big shapes first! :)

Thank you for sharing this tutorial and explaining your design process! I’ve dabbled into the grease pencil tool but been intimidated by it, and maybe it’s because I felt like I was never doing it the “right way”, which translates to overthinking. I’ll have to try some of these methods out now.

It is a very interesting visual effect "experiment" at the end. But it does seem to take a long time to accomplish, as it requires 3D modeling, 3D sculpting, anatomy and 2D drawing skills.... not to mention anatomy knowledge. With your skills, you could also accomplish something similar by 3D modeling the character, then 3D sculpting the muscle structure, then retopologying the mesh to follow the muscle fibers and such and then render to find the edges to make it look like 2D strokes... like a toon shader. Great video !!

Hi, thanks for making this video and posting. I’m at a similar stage, with similar interests. I love traditional 2D drawing and am keen to see how to bring what I love about drawing (line, contour, expression) into 3D and Blender grease pencil seems a promising way to do it. I do a lot of work with mobile tools, so I may combine some of that. There are some great 3D scanning tools and photogrammetry tools and they seem like a good way to avoid the basic model stage and jump right into resculpting. I suggest Scaniverse and then Nomad sculpt. At that point you can jump into Blender. Like I said, thanks a lot. I think you saved me a lot of time by posting your exploration, especially when you include the areas where the software made you struggle.

Thanks for your comment! I tried a different process going from clay to grease pencil last December (there’s a video too lol) using Polycam, someone mentioned Nomad in a comment and it looks wonderful. Scaniverse looks great too, I’ll check it out! I finally have time to continue experimenting so I appreciate the tips :)

when you make basic shape. you should press in blender in object mode . ctrl + A and apply Scale. you should before sculpting active symetric on X axis . nice video good luck ! . i have one year and 2 month i start using blender i was using lw since 2002. after that in 2012 i belive i use c4D and tryied max and maya and i tried blender in that time but UI of blender was a mess until 2.8 UI was stuning . max the only 3D software i did not like it. but blender is the best .

I’m gonna apply that tip next time thanks! I’ve only used Maya, (and a bit of Zbrush for sculpting), but to me, Blender always seemed more friendly, even before 2.8. Maybe I’m biased because it’s free lol, I also think it’s the best, more so now :D

Have you try using the Line-Art Modifier... could bring you a Quick Base if you bake it... TLDR: 1- Add Stroke 2- Add Modifier Call "Line-Art" (While having the Stroke Selected) 3- Fill in the "Collections" - Layer - Material 4- "Open" Edge Type 5- Change "Create" From "Countour" to "Sillouthe" 6- Turn off "Crease Treshold" (Don't Change it to 0 Simply Un-Check it) Bam you have a Working ILine-Art You can Manually Mark stuff by using the "Free-style" Mark... (Select Stuff - Right Click - Mark Free-Style). you can then Bake it... i haven't mess around too much with that.. (Baking it Means - you can Make it Permament, and Start Changing Stuff by Drawing it instead of using Blender Methods...) You can also "Delete" the Stroke from the Inside... Doesn't Effect it at all...

@marianarira
@marianarira Год назад
I'm not sure I understand, but I guess you can apply the modifier in a frame and add it again for the other frame. The setback is you can't make changes later by applying a modifier. Or do you use it as an aid to correct your drawing? Like “flipping the canvas” in other software? If that's the case, you can use the back camera (opposite of front) ctrl-1 is the shortcut.
