Whoah!! I never thought to change alpha brushes with the move tool. What a smart trick. Honestly, I had given up even making a clean, sharp beak-like shape in 3D Coat in the sculpt room. I viewed this video with little background in 3D Coat but with prior experience with 3D applications. I consider myself a beginner and having bought a 3D Coat license I'm eager to learn how to use it. As an intro to the basics, your tutorial was very helpful. I got a sense of what can be done in 3D Coat, especially the sculpting and shaping features. The last part where you loaded your model into Unreal Engine was a wonderful bonus! As a beginner, it helped connect the dots for me ... motivating me further to learn how to use these two tools together. If I may give some suggestions as far as the presentation is concerned. Clearly you make keyboard operations as you work; editing the video to add a text pop up indicating what keys you've pressed (or key+mouse combo) would be very helpful. Also, talking in general about 3D concepts such as "baking" and "retopology" helps clarify these concepts. Basically: what are they, what can we accomplish with them artistically, and what visual outputs can we expect. Stuff beginners like me would need to file away in our stock knowledge. Again this is a great intro video to 3D Coat. I've subscribed and I look forward to viewing you channel. Cheers!

Nice clip of the basics! Definitely worth a further look. You need to flip your G channel in the normal map to match what's in 3D coat (like most 3d programs to unreal). You can do this in the image settings in Unreal.
Man I’ve been eyeing this program for a couple of years. Finally started to learn it after never clicking with zbrush. I must admit it’s nice! Just wish it could handle more poly in voxel mode. But I don’t know the best workflows just yet. Might be user error. Very good software though.
Thanks for commenting :) There is a latest version of the software (2021) with new brush engine. It can handle more polygons but not as much as Zbrush. However, it performs better than the previous version. Cheers!
Awesome tutorial! One question, during your sculpting, you use the move tool to press the skull on the side to flatten it (15:16.) I cannot get 3D Coat to do this on both sides using symmetry. It only precompresses in on the side I have the tool, not the other side. How did you achieve this? Please keep up tutorials, great stuff.
Thanks George! Just press "s" key on your keyboard and the Symmetry window will pop up. Choose the symmetry axis and continue sculpting on both sides. Hope this helps. Thank you very much for your support. Best!
@@unconventionalpipeline Hello. I have pressed 's' and chosen the correct plane for symmetry. But when I flatten one side, the other side refuses to flatten in the same manner. What am I missing? I understand how to use the symmetry tool. I am just not seeing the results you show.
I Think Zbrush is still a country mile better in Sculpting, but i like 3DCoats Retopo a LOT, so i bought it for just the Retopo. i'd like to learn the Texture stuff, too. but if 3DCoat keeps going like its going, its very likely they COULD overtake Zbrush in Sculpting, Since "Maxon" had to Gobble them up :(
After further experimentation with 3DCoat, its a damn sight better at hard surface than Zbrush OR Blender. It is SO easy to throw hard surface stuff together! So with the hard surface, retopo and texturing abilities, its WELL WORTH the money! And the way they keep updating, soon the sculpting might be better than Zbrush. Its already better than Blender tbh. And if youre broke, they offer a Free 3D coat for 3d printing. So anyine looking into this program has no excuse not to try it, especially the free version. Its free, so its not like Blender will disown you. for learning another program lol
They are available, they just look different. The new 3d coat have a completely new brush engine. I will create a tutorial on new 3d coat ui as soon as I get back from vacation. Just scroll down and you will find it. Just try them out to see what you'll get. There have been slight changes in brush behavior. Hope it helps for now. Best
