If anything, add a small part that locks it down so it won't fly out. I think Smith does something similar with their snow goggles that use magnets for easy lens change but also has a clip so it doesn't really only on magnets.
The second he said magnets I thought he's going to need like clips on the side like you're saying I didn't even know that a company makes something like that
I love the idea but I've got to wonder how it all attaches to the skid lid, and also how it would affect the ability for the lid to actually skid along the floor without the mounts digging in and torquing the neck.
Also: mounting to a helmet compromises its safety by concentrating the impact to the point. Just look up the effect of GoPro mounts on helmets. The helmet needs to be designed to accommodate it, which is why you see helmets with integrated GoPro mounts usually have a magnet attaching the mount so that it flies off on impact
For the front part- ditch the magnets, not good, but find a way to integrate some strong clips or something. You could use the magnets for a quick clip-on action to get everything in place and than just close the locking mechanism. For the top part- you don't need to lock them when they are up because they are in a resting position when no action is happening. All you need is some strong magnets to make sure the goggles don't fly away when you shake your head I hope you will try to improve this design
I think there should be just a bit of velcro coming off the goggles and a bit on the top of the orange mount to help it not fly off, and let the magnets just do the initial alignment
A nice idea! I hate to be THAT guy but (and I really could be wrong) if you had a crash then those horns would be a point load on the helmet and/or could prevent your head from rolling if I’m contact with the ground. I’ve heard the same for too mounted GoPros at least but heck I dno, stay safe bro.
Excellent idea! Needs further development, but in general is a great idea! I would not focus on top storage. I would focus on adjustability, when on the face.
like many other comments. I'd be concerned about them falling off if I wiped out or just landed a jump too hard. some kind of secure mechanism would make peace of mind or even just a jig to make the strap more versatile than it was originally
Those top mounts could also be used to mount a go pro or 360 camera with the magnet system. I know so many people who would love a quick way to remove the GoPro from a helmet
I have done something very similar for me and my friends we 3D printed mounts and attached magnets in order to hold them however one of my friends got hurt while crashing and the doctors aren’t optimistic about his eye. Be careful and good luck
Having a mechanical lock so that they can't come flying straight off but you have to slide the goggles maybe 1/4 inch or so to one side to unlock them would be even better. This is really awesome, though.
Mountain bikes are so pricey. You're paying for weight savings really. Dirt bikes can be heavy and their suspension components can be heavy. But yeah I bought my DRZ400s for like $2000 and that would barely get you a full suspension mtb lol
How would the goggle affect the helmets protection in a crash? Seems sticking lumps of plastic on a helmet may result in injury when the lumps of plastic are pushed into your skull.
Yeah. I hope you capitalize on this. This is a fantastic Idea. With a little tweaking to make it sturdier during wipe out, I can see this really taking off.
Is there a longer video to this great idea? I would like to make somethink like that too, maybe you could share your fall backs and lessons learned so noone has to repeat them. ;-)
Those mounts scare the crap out of me. I just imagine them going through the helmet into your head in a crash. This is kind of what happened to Michael Schumacher, except it was a GoPro, and these mounts look like they would be more efficient in penetrating the helmet than a GoPro.
