You're crazy superheroes! I'm so glad glad to see this video, and I'm very impressed by the plane construction - the motor is a heavy beast and very difficult to mount on a lightweight frame. And I didn't expect that you're surviving 12S without getting insured. Great video!

I was researching 3d printed motors and saw the original video where Chris made the motor, always wondered if he used it for something, so I'm glad to see this. I'm actually designing my own motors and using the plastic parts to make a mold to pour melted aluminum so I can build my own water cooled ebike motors.

You are on to something as a guy in Arizona. My Bafang motor gets pretty dang hot! Maybe like an RC boat electric motor cooler would work? Just water flowing through a heat sink from the lake. But add a radiator and pump, and BOOM! You got this man. Make that dream a reality!!!!! If you design it to work with Bafang motors as an add on, you would sell out.

rst that was lost of motor power - or better to say, he lost the motor at self - it goes broken in this moment. I though at first that was lack of the battery power.

The spool fried because a wire size diameter small. Big current.

I am a Challenger Ultralight pilot and I have flaperons on my plane. Flaperons actually only change the center of lift and are primarily used for trim purposes based on the load of the pilot in order to trim for hands-off(or at least for minimal pressure)in what ever mode of flight that you are in(i.e. climb, level or descending). At altitude over my home airport(Capitol Drive)I trim the nose up way high and float around at 25 mph near minimum controllable airspeed(sometimes even flying backwards if the head wind at altitude is greater than my forward airspeed !).
@JosephHarner
@JosephHarner 6 лет назад
I'm just a nobody on the internet, but that doesn't sound at all like how *typical* flaperons or flaps would affect performance. They certainly *can* offset the center of lift if they are not located over the center of lift already, but they are fundamentally failing at their intended role if they are not increasing lift (and drag). Offsetting CoL is generally an undesired (and avoidable at the design level) side affect, not the intended function. I'm certainly not trying to correct you on doctrines of use for your aircraft. I've never seen or studied it before, and am just discussing the more general applications of what you have said. But as I understand it using flaperons to trim pitch should be *far* less effective than using the elevator to do so. I'm more inclined to think that the Challenger Ultralight is an outlier, due to the mid-length, high mounted engine. At first I thought it could be because of deflection of air into or away from the propeller, but pictures I found online were inconsistent about where the ailerons started, with some seeming to start at the root of the wing, and others only starting after they cleared the propeller's radius. Just making a guess, but do the flaperons on your aircraft start at the root of the wing?
@AdamShaiken
@AdamShaiken 6 лет назад
Almost all of the way to the root...here is a picture(not the best, but the only one I have). Almost the whole trailing edge of my wing is flaperon. They actually deploy in both directions with a hand crank above my head. facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10209513091903494&set=a.2432631794489.86899.1812492490&type=3&theater

I've flown a challenger (As well as 30 or so other types of aircraft), and I will say that while the flaperon trim method on the Challenger is pretty weird, it seems to work.
@AdamShaiken
@AdamShaiken 6 лет назад
Yes !, it is quite weird and works rather well, too. Frankly, I think that the design purpose is to provide both trim and accommodate a wider range of pilot weight.

@bbushong67
@bbushong67 4 года назад
Yeah, that was pretty subtle. I had to go back and watch that a few times. Hard to see the smoke, but it's there. One thing that I wondered about was the ratings of the larger bearing at the back of the motor... That bearing is only rated to 3,500 RPM... very thin profile (6mm x 6mm cross section), those bearing balls have got to be screaming...
@RinksRides
@RinksRides 6 лет назад
MUCH bigger prop doh! E-motors love torque down low. I'm sure the torque-arm of that motor could spin a bigger prop with higher pitch and get MOAR thrust from it.

I've been watching you guys for a while now, but I was always afraid to start flying RC planes, so I kind of got bored and stopped for a few months. However, not so long ago I came back and watched a few of your videos again which got me really inspired, and so I ordered my first RC airplane according to your tips in the beginner series, and it will arrive soon! I just wanted to say, love your videos and the stuff you come up with, keep it up! I've always been quite interested in aviation since I was a child, but so far I've only put together a few models for my shelf. But now it's time to begin actually flying

Great project!! The Quicksilver MX is a rudder/elevator only. No ailerons no flaps and no vertical stabilizer (all rudder). You need to modify the design with a rudder post and rudder. Even the Quicksilver MXL, Sprint and Sport models with ailerons are rudder dominant! With the high wing dihedral they fly skid and roll not crank and bank. A higher wing camber would help too. I have over 600 hours flying my 1984 MX. I look forward to seeing a kit and plans on your web site. (maybe a bit smaller scale)

Kara That's been done in a A.M.A. magazine back in the 70's. The guy would pretend he was pushing the lawn mower and it starts to get away from him. He starts to chase it around on the grass when all of a sudden it took off and started to fly! There were plans for it in that magazine.
