I think the video format where the process is the point rather than just the conclusion is the best way to go. It isn't the "trendy" thing, no, but it is the better way to do it if you're trying to share information and open up discussion. Having it all in one video is, in my opinion, for the people with shorter attention spans who don't really care about how the object/system actually works.

Adding an oil filter system to a rotary screw compressor can be a fairly simple process. You can also incorporate an intercooler and condensate trap into this stage to lower the RH of the compressed air you are producing.

I would definitely read Stosic’s paper that I have linked above. Unfortunately the math I did was really just related to the rotor profile. There’s a whole other subset of very expensive software for designing and optimizing the flow for various uses. I used lots of pictures and the occasional white paper to design things like rotor length and twist. I’m hopeful that when I turn it on it actually does something.

Hello! nice work and thanks for the paper. Can you please explain, in detail, how you drew the rotors profile? Thanks in advance.
@IndeterminateDesign

As I mentioned in the video, I used a C# .Net program to generate an SVG file which I could import into cad. I’ve lost the program sadly when my computer died. I’ve linked to some papers that detail the design of the rotors. The process involves designing a lobe male rotor, then using the envelope method to cut that male rotor out of the female rotor. My program used a bitmap as a 2d matrix, I modeled the male rotor lobe and rotated it and a base circle for the female rotor by 0.1 radian increments, taking into account the meshing ratio of 4:6. This gave me a single lobe of the female and male rotors, which are exported as SVG files. I imported this into cad and then made circular patterns of the lobes to get the full rotor profiles. I’m probably not going to address this in RU-vid videos as it would take 5+ videos to go over and I would have to recreate the software.

You mentioned the amr300 and 500...but I want to supercharge both a 50cc gy6 scooter engine and 212cc predator engines. Especially on the 50cc, the amr chargers are to big. And on the 50cc, which can rev to 8000 rpms, the amr is not a good option.
@IndeterminateDesign
@IndeterminateDesign Год назад
That sounds like a fun project. It's definitely difficult to manufacture a supercharger for an engine that small. The rotors would be very small, and thus need to be very accurate. I thnk it would need to be a roots style blower because these often have teflon seals and are much easier to manufacture vs a twin screw. I don't know if you have seen JohnnyQ90 on youtube, but he custom machined a small centrifugal supercharger for an RC car size engine.

It wouild be really cool to make screw compressor blades that fit in an AMR300 and AMR500 cases. Those are Roots style blades
@IndeterminateDesign
@IndeterminateDesign 3 года назад
That would be cool and really increase the efficiency of these tiny superchargers. I think the housing would have to be completely redesigned though. The Screw compressors take in and exhaust air at the ends, and they have a pressure relief machine in along the top where the rotors meet. Screw compressors efficiency is heavily tied to the design and sizing of the exhaust port (Another reason mine probably didn't works so well). I haven't had seen an AMR in person in a while, but I think they intake and exhaust right in the middle.
@ReverendBow
@ReverendBow 3 года назад
@@IndeterminateDesign yes, the AMR design inlet and outlet are in the center of the housing, and therefore, center of the rotors. But why wouldn't it work? Either way you are getting air supplied to the blades...
@IndeterminateDesign
@IndeterminateDesign 3 года назад
The roots blower act like a fan, where air comes in one side of the rotors and is blown out the other side perpendicular to the rotors. Similar to a geared oil pump. A twin screw takes air in at one end of the rotors, compresses it along the length of the rotors and the housing. The housing is a big tube that helps with the compression of the air (think two Archimedes screws). Now the intake and exhaust on superchargers are typically on the top of rotors, and the bottom respectively like in my design, but they are carefully designed to be as close to the end of the rotors as possible. Screw compressors can actually intake parallel to the the rotors, directly from the ends which is how many industrial compressors work. Basically if you put twin screw rotors in a roots housing you will end up with a very inefficient roots blower, because the screws would act more like gears than screws in that housing shape. Here's a great video with an animation showing how air moves in a screw compressor. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5nuXpaeb8N4.html

I'm trying to understand how air flows thru a twin screw supercharger. Unfortunately the vid you have linked is no longer available. From my very limited research the primary way to tell a twin screw from a roots supercharger is the direction of rotor rotation, they are opposite (roots vs twin screw...both have opposite rotating rotors). For some reason I was thinking you were building a twin screw SC but the rotation looked like it was a Roots style. I would appreciate your concurrence. Thanks...I thought your project was a success in light of it being hand made from a tolerance standpoint. A lathe would have been useful. @@IndeterminateDesign

nice job! could you share underlying math on this?
@IndeterminateDesign
@IndeterminateDesign 2 года назад
I wrote my original program several years ago and have since lost it. I need to re-write it, but the summary is, the male rotor is a defined geometry and using the envelope method is used to approximate the shape of the female rotor by rotating the male rotor around it. Here is a great book on the subject by the inventor of the profile I used. books.google.com/books?hl=en&lr=&id=GSB0eZZ2i-wC&oi=fnd&pg=PA1&dq=info:Sv1d0tkIvOsJ:scholar.google.com&ots=Q9gQMi63De&sig=4cfQ204mqlUntXC9KvR2tHehIMo#v=onepage&q&f=false I wish I could give you more detail but the linear algebra was the limit of what my brain could handle.
