Here's the CAD for the gearbox! There's a couple of changes from the time I posted this video since I been slowly improving the design! cad.onshape.com/documents/13a6641e5a0713c1bf68535f/w/e7f301b09cff8509d4c9c311/e/42f16fdab1a05c3834690322?renderMode=0&uiState=6691729d1aa8c41ea7428b6d
Very nice, thank you. One thing to mention is that the center distance needs to be divided by the cos of the helical angle beta to get the proper meshing distance. This distance would almost eliminate having to adjust the backlash, clearance, or shift.
Awsome, yea post the files 😁 .stl format would be preferred for me. And dnt give up man you're making great progress. Its nice to see the fail points of the design, not a lot of people show their failures but a lot can be learned from them. What are you planning on working on next?
Appreciate it bro! Bet I’ll probably upload it on thingiverse this weekend. Next I’m going to make a nerf gun that auto-aims on a bullseye. I’m going to use this motor design for the pan and tilt.
Super good video! My only note is at the very end when you say we'll never know how strong the gearbox is, when that's exactly what you just found out😂! How else would you define the strength of the gearbox except the amount of torque it can transfer before its components start to break?
Lmaoo I guess when I saying that I was more so saying if I spent time optimizing it like using abs or petg instead of pla but you’re right! We did find out the max torque😭
Hi Naz, for the 3D prints do you have to apply some sort of offset to ensure you get the correct tooth to tooth backlash? My models are correct for tooth space and tooth thickness but always seem to get an interference on the prints preventing smooth operation. Any tips? Thanks.
What’s up, I used a 0.025 inch backlash. Make sure to only use backlash on the planet gears and the sun gears. Don’t use any on the ring gear. In the video when I’m designing the gears I show how to add backlash. Let me know how it goes or if you have any other questions.
