This video shows the operation and assembly of the 3D printed Wool Winder (Yarn Winder). All 3D printed components and driven by a cordless Drill Driver. Included is a tensioner to help wind balls of wool.

OMG this is freaken awesome. I was about to spend money on one when I was like... wait maybe I can 3D print this. I'm sure I could have figured it out eventually but thank you for doing all the leg work. Great engineering. Out of curiosity which printer did you use? I have an Ender 3. I'm hoping I can pull this off.

Hi, I printed this on the Ender 3 using standard PLA. Some of the PLA+ available now are much stronger if you are concerned about strength. Also look at some of the remixes as people have added good options.

Hi! This is awesome, I was wondering how you determined the gear ratio for the center gear and the spool. Does it have something to do with the diameter?

Hi I just copied what was already out there. I did a remix of Printable Wool Winder by matthewlaberge November 21, 201, so I just copied the the dimensions from there. There is a wooden version with the same dimensions that has been made for years.

Do you have the Stl files for this, I have looked on thingiverse but it only has amf files

AMF files are a newer file structure

Do you have a hand attachment so you don't have to use a drill?

There is no hand attachment because it is not practical for this design. The gear ratio is 1:1 if you used a hand crank you would have to do a full turn for every turn of the winder. This does not work as you are doing more work than winding by hand. The commercial hand cranked wool winders appear to have a ratio of 6:1 or greater. i.e. each turn of the crank turns the wool winder 6 times. One that works with a hand crank would not work with a power tool.
