Read the title and the first couple of comments saying "game changer" and was thinking sure! I'd signed up and playing with it before the video had even finished! It's great for people like me that aren't patient enough to learn CAD
Thanks for the video and all of the time you have put into this, I know you have been working on this and making it better. This gives a great overview.
This is great and seems to work well. BUT, there is always a but, you might want to consider a middle tier (casual user) subscriptions. $9 per month for something I might use a few times per year is a bit hefty. Just a thought.
I would have a side bar with the menus so that, if you preview the modified model, you don't have to scroll up to preview then down again to make more changes. Maybe an option to have option "over all windows" or left, right or bottom of screen.
@@MakeWithTech To further continue this idea. why not add an "always on top" preview window. save having to reselect preview at all. just change the preview button to an update button or the like.
I'm a different type of 3D printing guy. I got into it very recently for a specific reason. I'm a airgun field target shooter, and I got a printer to make various accessories like scope parallax wheels and a bunch of other things. This is a very niche sport where you can't just buy these things off the shelf. As a result I've immediately thrown myself in the deep end with CAD, with no prior knowledge. A few such items are on Thingiverse, but most don't fit my needs. I've designed side wheels to fit specific scope models by taking out my calipers and doing the work. It's taken me about 3 weeks to go from total noob to developing a bunch of files that are modular and can be adapted to other people in the sport's needs, and getting really nice prints of my own designs.
Nice. I’m all in. Is there a way for folks to contact creators to request a model to be created? Also, is there a way to get metrics on what users are searching to know what kind of content to create?
This is so cool, I just got into 3d printing literally last week and have been binge watching your videos and thought they were just great with all the information in an easily digestible way, but this is next level! It really is the hardest part of the whole process -using software to make models, or if you dont want ot make models from scratch, simply modifying models is a big chore, this really takes out that chore. It took forever to figure out how to remove a logo in a thing i downloaded from thingiverse. Just subtracting a region felt like I had to do an intro coarse to CAD design so this really does help, thank you. For making models from scratch the CAD/modelling world is begging or a VR app though, its so much more inutative to operate in 3d space and they've acually found people who dont play video games play VR games just fine because of that reason, so i think maybe desinging in 3d space would also be juyst as easy, shaping things with your hands, or roughly sizing things between your fingers and what not, that would next next level.
Nice initiative. You mentioned that your site has more options for customization than Thingiverse. Do you have a write-up or sdk for model creators on the capabilities that your site enable?
@@MakeWithTech Thanks. After uploading a model, a few recommendations: - make the model image on the model detail page the same aspect ratio as on the search page. My picture kept getting cropped. - I looked at the html code, and it looks like the preferred size for the model image is 300x200 px. Maybe add a snippet about that on the help page (couldn’t find it if it is already there). - add a list of published models on the accounts page. I’m not sure how I find the models I uploaded without searching for them. - as not all customization options are implemented fully yet, hide the customization settings that are not supported. Right now, the [190:1:260] is displayed below the parameter description. See model MOD230301UTVJ0 - as the model owner, it would be nice to have the edit model button on the model details page, not just on the search results page. - long term wish list: - cascading parameters, show parameters only when appropriate. E.g. if model is a box, with a boolean checkbox option to enable rounded corners, only show the corner radius parameter if the rounded option is checked. - let a parameter reference other parameters, in the box example, make it possible to set the limit of the radius of the corner to ½ the width and ½ of the height of the box.
I really dont like the transition box things that comes up when you click. It otherwise looks very clean, so as suggestion id remove that. Might I also suggest adding a slight delay before the tooltip shows up so that you dont get tooltip spam when hovering things.
This is actually a great idea....BUT...I do believe that Ai is coming to replace "most" cad design very soon through prompt tags. For instance...instead of needing to know how to center a .5 inch hole in the middle of a surface...you will simply need to type "add .5 inch hole to center."
Yoo I need your help my extruder on my ender 3 are not working right like the brass thing spins but it doesn’t push in enough filament but if I push it through with my hand it comes out just fine idk what to do
Choose a UserName with NO SPACE in it when registering‼️ Feedback: I am used to entering only e-mail and password when making an account. Here, it starts with asking me for a user name. I entered first name [space] and last name. Then password, then e-mail. That didn't work, and I was presented a •very cryptic• error message. Luckily I am bit used to computers, so I made the username having NO SPACE, and then it worked.
What would make this site really cool: A tool that converts stl files into all the files this site needs to do it's thing. That one, I have one file to get: an STL. The rest of the computer behind this website doing it's thing. I bet it's possible. If it isn't, this doesn't work, I guess.
I was surprised I didn’t see anything custom-made for the jgmaker Artist D from you yourself! Matters not! At the very least, you deserve, the Patreon sign up! I am so glad this is worked out! I cannot imagine the hard work that has went into this. There are very few that I can follow that can give me tips and ideas with my fantastic IDEX. Congrats once again!🎉
We do. They can include any dependencies in a zip file they include in the model definition. This is described in the help. The zip file is unzipped into the working directory that contains the main scad script.
Hi there. I got a creality ender a couple of years ago and still haven’t used it. I want to make cookie cutters. Can you provide me some direction on info where to start, what systems I need etc? I appreciate you.
hi I got problems while trying to sing in. I had received a confirmation code in my email with a code and any link. When I try to go home page of make with tech and I click sign in, it says the mail is already used. When I log in it says the password is wrong over and over. If I try to reset password it says there is no mail or phone to make the verification ... I could never get in, I've made the account right now, I have the code, to ingress where I have to put the code in? i really know my password is correct as 30min ago when I create it
Hello Mr Shapiro! I’ve been following this channel for a while now and I just wanted to say that this - your newest creation - is wonderful, generous and kind. You are a very decent man and I hope that your newest creation does really well. Thank you and well done!😊
A comment button on the website, especially while new, will give you a lot of valuable input, and a lot of drudgery to weed it out. I'll point out here lastest should be replaced by latest as an option for refining searches if that is your intent. I'm OK either way, and would appreciate a slider or selector for date of upload. A symbol for other modified from the same objects, and especially the original linked in, would also be appreciated
as a 3d artist i need the venture funding far FAR more than i need 3d models. the problem is nobody actually cares enough about the product to listen in spite of a) being completely demonstrable and b) a world changing device. i can prove that statement, nobody cares so ill keep at it knowing i can save millions of lives with it and ... nobody cares
My apologies, but I gave this 15 minutes, but it didn't work. Why? Your site needs a picture, an stl, a cad files. I don't have those. I have stl files. I have jpegs, but cad files of the stl files I have just aren't available. I found another typo, but I don't remember what it was now. Sorry.
Happy to discuss. You do not need cad files. Open a ticket by clicking on customer service request in the footer and I will reach out to you. If you thought you needed a CAD file the site was not clear and I look forward to you feedback.
I kinda tuned out but I'll comment anyway, wouldn't it be better to have some click and drag to resize or other interactive tools for existing STL models rather than editing code? CAD is not that hard for simple brackets and things it's only hard for elvs and trees and art stuff
Visual CAD isn't hard for SOME people, just like Script CAD isn't hard for SOME. To say that one is better than the other depends entirely on the individual person and the individual project. Visual tends to work well for things with simple shapes and arcs and tangents, but (at least with the free and sub-$300/monthly options) gets clumsy and cluttered and weighted down quickly with anything complicated or that has a lot of repeated features. Script works well for complex mechanical shapes* and for models with repetitive features (gears are a good example) but likewise gets bogged down and has trouble with swooping arches and organic shapes. From personal experience BOTH suck on the sub-$1k level for anything with lots of fastener or linear threads or if you're trying to model a full machine in a single file. Editing STLs is not something you really want to do in any CAD if it can be avoided. Too much data is lost in the conversion to STL and even using the same editor program often gives you a tangled mess of artifacts instead of what you wanted to work on. I do agree that having visual tools available would be beneficial, but not at the expense of abandoning or restricting script use availability.
Thing is, you don't have to edit code at all for the projects in the models space. You can if you want to adapt a project to do something else or make it better or different. But most folks will just find something they need, change the associated parameters, and get the stl they need. The features and way this site works is truly revolutionary. Diddling stl's in CAD is far from simple.
@@BearNPum I like the guy I hope it does well but I don't think the venn diagram of people who competently 3d print is far from those who understand how to make a curtain ring in CAD, maybe it is. I don't see any Darth Vader helmets or things it would be difficult and valuable to customize on there
Thingiverse has been succesful for the fact that can be used whitout subscription. At point! For creators registration is good but for a fast customisable model one time in a month or a year i pass
