This is part one of a hopefully three part series, where I share some things I have learned over the last year while 3D printing onto textiles. In this episode, we cover some things that I've printed, fabrics that I use, and information about the PFLAT sheets that so many of my prints get their holographic effect from.
For a closer look at the mesh, check out the fabric mesh sample pack kaizen3dprints...
Follow along on RU-vid, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok - @Kaizen3DPrints / www.Kaizen3DPrints.com / www.thangs.com/designer/kaizen3dprints
Here are the links that I have for the fabrics I use most often
Illusion mesh - dfwfabricmart....
Fine Powermesh - a.co/d/2HQafeX
Powermesh - www.joann.com/...
PFLAT Sheets - kaizen3dprints...
Please, let me know if you have any questions about anything that I covered here and I will create additional content in part 2. I would love to hear any feedback that you have!

I love how detail oriented and organized you are! Life goals!! This is one of the best videos on printing on fabric that I’ve seen. On a different note, great job on the video quality, lighting, and audio quality! Thank you!

You are so organized and methodical and clear in your presentation. You are a natural teacher. I am curious, in your design experiments, how do you keep track of all the details like filament, mesh type/brand, printer settings etc? You must have so many experimental iterations so the data you process must be substantial! Thank you for putting so much time and effort into your videos and for sharing the information with us. The learning curve for making 3D prints, let alone fabric, has been a deterrent to this crafter. The up-side is I can buy finished 3D printed items from you! I can't wait to get the 3 handbags you made for me to carry my phone around in.

@becre8tive199 I appreciate your support so much! Can't wait for you to receive them, they're stunning in person! Bambu's slicer does a great job at keeping track of filament types, and I can create unique settings based on the filaments, where the parameters are saved. It does take a good amount of time, so much of that knowledge is just sitting in my noggin, I'm glad I'm taking the time to create these videos!

Learnt so much already, looking forward to the other parts! My experiments so far were with a nylon mesh which I found to be a rather stiff. Didn't even bother measuring the thickness to match it with my layer height. Derp. Seeing the range and materials you've tested is brilliant information. Thank you so much for sharing!
@kaizen3dprints
@kaizen3dprints Месяц назад
@@Pumpkinwaffle there are soooo many types of fabrics out there. Best to just get your hands on them and get some in person learning! I found that the 60x10x3 bar magnets work very well for holding the fabrics tension when you're working with a stretchy mesh

Looking forward to this series. As a fashion designer myself I am very curious about 3D printing on fabric, I have often wondered about the process especially calibrating the first layer correctly without the nozzle snagging the fabric and still adhering to the build plate.
@kaizen3dprints
@kaizen3dprints Месяц назад
Awesome feedback! Looking forward to creating more videos, absolutely! The first layer is printed followed by a pause command at the beginning of the second layer. You then place the fabric (layer height matching fabric thickness) and magnets and resume the print. I generally print 35mm/s on first layer and 50-75 all other layers. I've found faster speeds have the potential to snag and pull parts of the print up.

@@kaizen3dprints so hear me out on where I’m at! I have an enclosure for my printer with a flap opening that closes with Velcro and I need to hook up some ventilation. I have everything figured out except how to seal that flap which is 11”x7”. My thought was to attach Velcro to a cut piece of shower curtain and cut the 4” hole into that but I’m also needing some way to support the weight of the duct adapter/fan. After watching this video I had that inspiration of printing attachment points onto the shower curtain and sealing the hole up with the Velcro
