Great rundown, Tommy! The one thing I would add that I learned the hard way is that there are primarily 2 types of 3D shutter glasses-- DLP link glasses and RF link glasses. The only major difference is the connectivity varies depending on the projector (yours, for example, is a DLP link) Personally I've had better luck with RF glasses (which connect via bluetooth) but I'd recommend that beginners check their projectors type of connectivity before ordering 3D glasses.
Hi Tommy - good explanation for any newcomers to 3D to explain the kit they need. In the UK a firm called HUMAX makes some very good set boxes so you can decode live TV, You Tube and other media ,all up to 4K resolution, for $250 so it’s future proof. I would also recommend a fixed screen such as by the Canadian company ‘Grand View’ although this could set you back $800 but they have a velvet border which absorbs light at the edges to give a very crisp picture.
Fore ease of installation, I recomend Epson instead of optoma. Epson's picture can be moved quite a lot, physically on the projektor, both horozontally and vertically. This means you dont have to perfectly centered. Also you dont need to keystone and its lcd instead of dlp. Its better colours and no rainboweffect😊 Also buy used and save 50%+
Incredible what you did for $1200 :) This is a active 3D setup that can do up to HD. If 4K in 3D is your goal, you'll have to triple your budget and do a couple of tricks as 4K 3D Bluray movies and players dont exist. My recommendation is to get two Optoma UHD38x projectors, use a silver material for your projector screen, AI upscale your blu-ray to 4K and playback from a PC. This is a passive 3D setup. It doesn't have any flicker issues for sensitive eyes and can do 4K - but is more complicated and expensive to do.
Hi tommy, i think i might be following your channel for 4 years. When i also started collecting 3d movies. I’ve upgraded my system. I have a denon x3800h receiver. Capable of dts:x, dolby atmos, imax enhanced and auro 3d. There are a few movies that have overhead sound in 3d. Such as jurassic world: fallen kingdom (dts:x), batman vs superman (dolby atmos), hunger games mockingjay part 1 and 2 (dolby atmos). But thats about it for my collection that has over 100 3d movies. If you just watch 3d movies. It’s not worth the upgrade. I also can’t pass 3d through my receiver. They say it works but it doesn’t look good. I also collect 4k blu rays and then it may be worth upgrading. Some titles definitely have great overhead sound and make it a great experience. I use a benq tk800m projector. Great for 3d and 4k playback. So if you are considering to upgrade your sound system, and you only play 3d. I suggest to just keep it to 7.1, you’re not missing out!
Alot of projectors have the lense off centre. If you mark the position according to the centre of the projector itself, when you turn the projector upside down to mount it to the ceiling this will flip the position of the lens. I prefer to use the lens itself as the guide so that it matches precisely when turned upside down and mounted. The fewer keystone adjustments you need the better.
Thank you Tommy, you will need a multiregion player and one that supports playing files from USB. Multiregion Blu Ray Players are sold on Amazon and eBay. I highly recommend a player that supports USB play from nested folders and that supports external subtitles in the SRT format. Mine does, it's a LG BP550 3D multiregion Blu Ray player bought on eBay, it may however no longer be available.
I agree on the multi region players. I was going t mention it but was afraid too many would tune out at that point. I have been lucky so far to have collected about 250 region free blu-rays but I have missed out n some games do titles in region only discs.
I have an Optoma 3d projector that I got off eBay, it was hardly used! It didn't look right to start with but once I got the projector image completely straight on the wall. the 3d is now amazing! I have a Sony 3d blu ray player that came with it's own 5.1 speakers, got that of eBay as well. By the way you need a have a projector that is full 3d and not one that is 3d ready. Full 3d projectors can display 3d blu rays where as 3d ready ones are for pc 3d presentations. Also there is a 3d remastered version of the fist Avatar movie out now. I have it but haven't watched it yet, the 3d is meant to better on it. Heard the 3d is like watching Avatar the way of water.
I personally am currently using a Sony PlayStation 3D display for 3D stuff, but whenever I get my own place I would love to upgrade to a projector so I'll probably look into the equipment you mentioned here. One suggestion from me though if you ever want to consolidate the remotes I'd look into getting an old Logitech Harmony remote. Because Even though Logitech discontinued the Harmony line, you can still buy the remotes off eBay and still get the software from their website. They still maintain the database And it works perfectly. I bought a Harmony remote from 2005 and got a replacement battery for it on Amazon and it works perfectly with my setup. It even supports my Xbox One which is what I use as a Blu-ray player.
Sound wise I'm running a Logitech z906 setup, I chose it because I wanted something small and everything on that setup plugs into the subwoofer with it with a little control panel you place somewhere in your setup, it's a very basic 5.1 speaker setup and it only takes compressed surround sound formats, but it sounds excellent and does everything I need it to. It even has three 3.5 mm jacks on the back for analog PC surround sound which is great because getting digital surround sound to work on PC is super painful and almost impossible nowadays.
Very frendly budget setup Tommy 👍🏼 My 2 cents is , paint your ceilling and walls a neutral flat color and you will upgrade your visual for a little $ , the red affected the picture and the reflection on the ceilling is a lost on the screen. Excuse my poor english
Going down this rabbit hole. Bought a PS 3D display and loving 3D with my old PS3 and T2 and avatar, just a small screen though. Gonna do the PS4 with PSVR for 3d, but also want something for more people to watch and looking for 4k projector that can do 3d and would love bluetooth audio to a soundboard, does this even exist. Looking to replace my TV with this since I have a first recast and can do live TV with that and thinking just project it
I have a similar setup but instead of that projector i got the uhd35x its about 900 euro (probably cheaper in the US) great projector 4k hdr at 60hz and 240hz at 1080p also supports 3D and im using a PlayStation 4 as the blu ray player (PS5 doesn't support 3D blu ray)
@@salsa564 I had it on an end table, but you could in theory set it on a coffee table because you project the picture where you want it and straighten it out electronically. To a certain degree. For me machine anyways.
@@TommyBoy3D so even if it’s like 18 inches or 24 inches off the ground, it should still project onto a screen that’s a little bit higher because it’s coming down from the ceiling?
Right on! This is my office and movie room and it is half of a two car garage. It puts me on the other side of the house from the Missus. At times a win, win... 🙂
@@TommyBoy3D it looks like it would be a nice experience and all the 3d movies will work with it. If you try it please make a video of the experience you have. Thanks for your videos Sir I have enjoyed them
