If the part is organic in shape its fine as long as your CAM software can work with that file type. If you are trying to machine holes, sharp corners or precise features then a hybrid or solid model is needed.
We made it. Waterjet cut and bent a piece of aluminum and finished it off with powder coating. We then mounted it to a ballhead style tripod. This allows you to roated the angle of it. Its very sturdy for doing 3D scannign out in the field. We are going to do a video on all the cool accessories we use for 3D scanning. Stay tuned.
