When Mary, Queen of Scots, was beheaded on 8 February 1587, a wax mask was made of her face.
To mark the anniversary of Mary Queen of Scots’ death, we have released a digital 3D model of the plaster cast from Linlithgow Palace of her tomb effigy.
What does it take to make a 3D model of facial features? And how can the model help us preserve this precious object?
Yueqian Wang, our Digital Innovation Trainee, takes us behind the scenes.

I am sure one of the things Elizabeth feared of Mary was her beauty compared to her plainness. Mary Queen of Scots was a beauty of her day.
