Create the Cylinder:
Open 3ds Max and create a new project.
Go to the Create panel (standard primitives) and select Cylinder.
Click and drag in the viewport to create the base of the cylinder (this will be the body of the cup).
Adjust Cylinder Parameters:
In the Modify panel, adjust the Height, Radius, and Segments to get the basic shape of the coffee cup.
Set the height to a suitable value for the cup, for example, 10 units.
Set the radius to a smaller value, such as 3 units.
Increase the height segments to around 5 to make the cup smooth when deformed later.
Convert to Editable Poly:
Right-click the cylinder and select "Convert to Editable Poly" from the context menu.
This allows for more detailed editing of the geometry.
Create the Inner Surface:
Select the top polygon (face) of the cylinder.
In the Edit Poly menu, use the "Inset" tool to create a smaller, concentric polygon inside the top face.
Use the "Extrude" tool on the inset polygon and extrude it downwards to create the inner surface of the cup.
Shape the Cup:
Select the edge loop at the top of the cup and use the "Scale" tool to slightly scale it outwards, giving the cup a slight flare at the top.
If needed, use the "Edge Loop" tool to add additional edge loops to the cup body and adjust their positions to refine the cup shape.
Create the Handle:
Go to the Create panel and select the "Torus" primitive.
In the viewport, create a torus and position it to the side of the cup where the handle will be.
Adjust the torus parameters to get the desired thickness and radius for the handle.
Convert the torus to an Editable Poly and use the "Edit Poly" tools to reshape it if necessary.
Attach the Handle to the Cup:
Select the cup and go to the Modify panel.
Use the "Attach" button in the Edit Poly menu to attach the torus (handle) to the cup.
Use the "Vertex" or "Edge" tools to weld or merge the vertices of the handle to the cup body, ensuring a seamless connection.
Refine the Shape:
Use the "Edge Loop" and "Chamfer" tools to refine the edges and give the cup a smoother, more polished look.
Add any additional details or refinements as needed.
Apply Materials and Textures:
Open the Material Editor (press M) and create a new material for the cup.
Apply suitable materials and textures to the cup and handle to achieve the desired look (e.g., ceramic, glass).
Render the Scene:
Set up the lighting and camera in the scene.
Adjust the rendering settings and render the final image of the coffee cup.
This process can be modified and expanded based on the complexity and details you want to add to your coffee cup model.
