As technicians it's important to return to car to not only pre-accident safety, but appearance as well.
Many OEM's have evolved in the use of seam sealer applications that are difficult to replicate in the repair and or replacement process of a part.
In this video, Shawn Collins 3M Technical Service Engineer is back to discuss how to match OEM seam sealer in corner applications.

Agree, it's hard to find the cars for the lab, but we'll work with some area shops to find an application.

Being in the business for over 25 years now and seeing manufacturers changing materials and assembly process , we as repair facilities must also adapt. I appreciate all the updates and how to's , however I am not going to spread out 1/4 of filler then back butter it leaving 5mm plus of filler.

@aracp - As an instructor both in classroom and technical service seminars, I can tell you that people without knowing use 3 types or methods to learn new things. #1 Watching, #2 Listening, #3 Doing. For many, it may one, two or all three to get a technique or product use saved to memory as everyone learns differently. What Seam has done was to “Show & Tell” and for many, not all that works. In the future as the job presents itself to you, you can create a file in RU-vid, give a name and review the procedure & product again. No one is born knowing this information but we all have the opportunity to get it close. If you make a pattern to copy onto the bench, it will give you that change to get it real close. Remember to ask if someone has done this already. As a seasoned tech, I was happy to help someone learn if I had the skill or do it for the first time together. To apply this “Tape Apperance” seam sealer on a vertical surface, use masking tape to catch squeeze out but try a heavy body seal sealer like 3M 08308 and use a cut speaker that fits. This will keep the holding layer from running while sealing and apply the tape patch appearance. Hope this helps give you confidence to try it. A oil based wax & grease cleaner on a paper rag, I have found, will help you with any squeeze out that is hard to reach but is my experience and not from 3M. Best of luck in a rewarding career.
