Very fair review, here in the UK each head costs about £9 each and then each pps pot liner costs about £1.40 each, thats alot to pay for an inferior gun just to avoid cleaning my flg5 1.8. Really respect your opinions keep up the fantastic videos.

I bought this gun and have used it for about a year. Learned real quick not to use it for nothing more than trimming or door jambs but I like it for primer with the 2.0 tip.

Use it strictly for primer. Keep the PSI @ 20lbs and it keeps the over spray waaay down. When they switched to the 2.0 adapters, they werent sealing very good and the nozzle wanted to fly off under pressure. $25 for a box of 4 can get pricey every 1-2 months though

We got the kit for around $90 through our supplier here in Florida. I strictly only use it for etch primer and sealers. It is absolutely terrible for spraying metallics . I couldn’t imagine trying the gun with clear. But it does a pretty decent job with sealers and primers with the 1.8 mm air cap. The one thing I do like are the liners , lids, and cups . Primarily the filter/ strainer material in the caps are really big and do a better job of filtering contaminates than your typical cup strainer. Just need the adapter for your spray gun to accept the cups and liners.

I have one of these guns for spraying really thick stuff, like epoxy and heavy primer or spatter coat. I like the disposable aspects because for me the cleaning of solvent paints (and 2 pack) out of my guns is the worst part of all. But, I have found it is NOT good at spraying when you want a fine finish. So, its for spatter, or heavy stuff. Still, I paint that kind of stuff from time to time so it suits me for those uses. It got me on to the PPS pot system which I use now. For your reference, I'm not a big time sprayer, I paint lots of little stuff, and restorations. Love your channel - and many thanks.

Thanks, I’ve been waiting for this review along with other viewers with anticipation 👌 I must say I was expecting better from it for primer but wow that material delivery was slow 🙁 My idea was to get one for uPol ReFace (and HBP) which I use a lot of and the larger 2.5 sounded like just the ticket along with the disposable tips since ReFace has messed up plenty of my guns in the past. Guess it’s not worth it then 😬 Thanks again for the review 😜👍

I got one about a week ago. I've sprayed clear with it on a rear motorcycle fender. This 35 year rookie loved it ! I've never made myself spend the $ on a really nice gun. Have alway achieved a great outcome. Would love to spray with a really nice gun. I'd probably be amazed!

The clear caps are 1.8mm and the red ones are 2.0mm, really good with the primers we spray at the shop. & as long as you clean the needle, and the cap is clean, you’re golden. Keeps overspray down, sprays even, and easy to clean! Even the caps are easy to clean, just wash out with some thinner and dry! It actually sprays sealer pretty good with minimal orange peel, I think it was with the 1.4mm tip.

Fair post gunny. I feel it's a one hit wonder and like you say for industrial use. For cost of say 10 tips you can get a 25l gunwash thinners which will last ages not just 10 washes. I also feel with a fixed nozzle gun the accuracy and consistency will improve. If 3m perhaps looked into using a better material for caps to prevent wear and last longer than I feel it could have benifits
@BearBudgetTurbine

Bought one of these for primer/sealers. Super easy cleanup. 3m gun cleaner And I re-use the nozzles until they fail. Great for small paint repairs. Dial it down small and use a fine touch. Very little overspray is great when u don't have a booth. Full car? Nope. Nope and nope. But it has a purpose for me! And I hate cleaning primers. So for me, couple hundred bucks, buy some tips as needed, worth it. Iwatta W400's my go-to budget full paint gun. 1.3 and 1.4. I love paint guns and would love to try more....but can't keep spending $$ So I stick with what I know... Watched your review of the Performance gun as well👍 Too much of an air pig for my garage, but nice system

Hi Gunny, great review i have one of these and i have great success with it for primer, 3m does have a lot of different colour air caps which are used for top coats and base coats, i have used the orange 1.4 cap for clear and its ok. i think the clear caps are only for primer, see if you can get a selection of the other air caps and give them a try

This gun is for industrial use like for gel coats, epoxy coatings or polyester primers when finish quality is not important but the products have low pot life, harsh or difficult to clean and can ruine regular full metal spray gun.
@David_Creyke
@David_Creyke 4 года назад
You can get a good Iwata or Devilbiss FLG for about the same price and if you take care of it it will last. The caps for the 3m gun aren’t cheap, so that kind of kills the one significant advantage the gun could have. Might be ok for a diy person but they aren’t built for a production setting.

Good video. Sounds like you've got the same opinion about it as I do. I used the kit off an on for about 3 weeks when the reps introduced it. It worked, but it wasn't great. I started using it for thick Polyester primer, it seemed to work well, just slow as hell. Minimal overspray. I tried it on some waterborne base and HS clear, and really wasn't a fan. It just seemed slow, and average atomization at best. Neat idea, but just didn't quite do it for me. I believe the gun actually ended up getting damaged, can't remember how, but it was put out of commission, and nobody in the paint shop seemed to care.

Like i said I'm just a DIY guy so I feel there is no need for me spending tons of $$ for something that I'm not gonna use every day. Just my opinion. also i dont know were you find them for 100 bucks here in the states i have searched all over, i got mine for $165 and that was due to a coupon i had got from ebay , other wise it would have been $185.

Great video, Gunman. I also fell for this product but am fine having it for primer and using the pps components with a better gun. After watching your top guns vid, I’m torn. In Canada I could get a devilbiss gpi for about $500 (Canadian), a Tekna pro (1.2-1.4/te10, te20) for about $600 and a Tekna pro-lite (1.2-1.4/te10, te20) for $700. What would you recommend?

The pro sounds best bang for your buck. That's what I'd go with, functionality is identical to the pro lite but $100 in your pocket. See if my sponsors from SprayGunsDirect.co.uk can beat that price, they ship to Canada fast so could be worth it.

I could have saved you time (and money ...LOL ). I used this gun through my 66 mustang restore and I think its an awesome PRIMER gun. Lays down primer very smooth and big tip...spray epoxy primer with their 1.4 tip and it is amazing ...But for paint ..no...I tried on the underside of hood and trunk. Not bad...but not what I would want to spray the car with (I went with devilbiss GFG670 which is AMAZING ) - On a positive side, it did get me engaged in the PPS cups and all my guns are now equipped to use those exclusively. Biggest negative is spraying HEAVY duty highbuild primer, It just doesn't like to spray FAST ...coverage is excellent and lays down very nice but expect to go SLOW...enjoy

I'm a professional Cabinet and furniture maker. I've been using the 3M accuspray with a pressure cup for 3 years now. I've wrestled with it for a very long time. I've sprayed maybe 200 gallons of product into professional wood projects with it. This makes total sense.... There are some finishes in some scenarios that the accuspray does great at. General Finishes products spray wonderfully out of it as long as you don't lay it down too thick and you have the piece laying horizontally. The 3m accuspray has difficulty with atomization... You can atomize better by using a pressure cup, then pumping the PSI up to 50 and then backing the fluid out to be the normal "slow speed" like no pressure cup was there... But that's just really putting a band-aid on the gaping wound... It simply doesn't atomize well. And yes... The tips last decent... But not great. I have recently switched to an airless in my workflow to compensate for the accuspray's problems of atomization. No problem with feed rate of fluid when using the pressure cup... But when you shoot out a lot of fluid it has horrible atomization... Like... Unusably bad. I feel kinda dumb for keeping it for so many years....

Disappointing from 3M. They make some good stuff. Old accuspray guns where good. Had it uses. I did a few enamel and single stage urethane jobs. Was a time when the single stage urethane was being pushed as better for replacing lacquer as it went off market for re-sprays. Plus used it on equipment. Was very good for that. Very good atomization. Had a bottom cup. They use those guns for spraying clear lacquer on brass doors and trim in front of buildings. They clean off old paint and trash then paint. Few months ago I saw them using an old accuspray with a turbine system. Could smell they where using Lacquer. They made it into a plastic gun then it went down in quality. Talked to rep a few times. Think that was aren't the time they got bought by 3M. Not sure but think the designers and everyone left and all 3M really got was the name.

Wouldn't take long until the tips add up to more than a top line gun also. That's if used in a body shop.

I think accuspray is completely the wrong name, although I understand what you are saying about using materials that could ruin a normal gun I find it disgusting that this gun uses so many disposable plastic parts, they don't even last that long

Hi all, can someone tell me if you are meant to have the plug on top of the paint pot lid in or off. I'm not even sure what it does. I've been spraying with the plug in the lid, but noticed gunman has it out. I'm only using a cheap auto pro gun. Cheers.

DeVilbiss have a raised section on the lid of the pot, so they don't drip, some guns don't have the same design and they'll drip without the plug.

This is def not "slow' as a primer gun..... It lays primer so damn flat that I got bitched at by shotty body workers that the finish was "Too smooth" & not gobbed on with a shit ton of elephant hide sized orange peel !!!! This gun def works well for primers & thick industrial single stage paints....... You can reuse the tips as easily as giving it a few seconds in the gun cleaner cabinet..... This comes in handy when you need to change colors for stuff like commercial window & door trims - Just drop the other tip in a cup of thinner & you can flip flop back & forth all day................. To each his own however
