Hi Chris! Thank you very much for your videos - lots of useful information. I have a request for one of your next videos: could you please make a review of advanced application tools (I mean not only squeegee and heat gun, but maybe some special applicators that help you work faster and more effectively)?
I started with credit card, rag and hair dryer. Last weekend I I'd half car and full trim on another. I stayed up Saturday all night to make sure finished by Sunday evening. I did and made $7800. And I don't run official shop, garage converted to vinyl wrapping studio. Word of my work, and every ride out there ja my business card. Some local professional shops hate me bc I don't work for no shop an steal their business. Lol. I still got the cesit card. Only took you need is imagination and keep wrapping, of u got nothing to wrap, wrap your dick bubble and creases free them wrap it again.
Use metal wire brush on a drill to strip any plastic them apply vinyl. Did full interior with posts whic usually can't stick sht to. Mine has been on for 2 years on some cars
Will the adhesive on the wrap damage acrylic RV windows? I am seeking to cover a fixed acrylic window on the roof of my RV to eliminate the light and reduce the heat impact inside the vehicle.
Hi Cookie/3M, the videos are great and I know this comment finds you much later than they went live but hopefully you see this and can help. What is the work around for crappy unpainted textured black (often greying) bumpers and trim, as there's no way you would want to wrap a car in such a fantastic finish but leave them? Is prep fully and actually paint, then dry and wrap later the only option? Would it bond better to a spray filler then lacquer or something? Thanks.
While abrading the surface of the plastic can increase the film adhesion, it may not be sufficient to prevent the film from lifting, so we would still not recommend wrapping the trim. Thank you for messaging 3M Films
I'm getting my hood/roof/trunk wrapped in 3M 1080 gloss white aluminum this weekend. I had some aged chrome side mirror covers that I removed, and the installer suggested I wrap them. They are a very hard plastic. Will wrap be okay on them, or should I rethink having him do it? Thanks in advance for your feedback.
My buddy has rust he's fixing before I wrap his vehicle, been in the body shop work for 27 years. Can I wrap over automotive primer or should he paint it first?
Hi Chris I have a 2011 Honda Civic that has a licences plate lid tray that is painted plastic. But the adhesion is not very good on it. Do you have and any suggestions as to how I can get a better adhesion? I am doing a blue mirror chrome vinyl wrapp
Hi, I have a Mini Cooper S 2006 and I want to go for a full wrap blue metallic matte wrap. I have been told that the wheel arch trims and side kirts can't be wrapped since the wrap doesn't stick. Is this is true even using the 3m primer? Is there any tip o trick to do it? thanks
Hello cookie, do they make a transparent vinyl wrap as I am actually very fond of the colour of my car? Only joking cookie my real question is could vinyl wrap be applied to a upvc external house door to change the colour? Many thanks, jo.
How do the pros reapply logos and lettering removed prior to wrapping? Is there a preferred glue to use on the new wrap surface? Thanks for the great features...I'm about half done on first wrap. mike
Thanks...I have a roll of a thick red double sided tape. Could be the stuff...of course the reason for caution...if they fall off....... I'll check with some local body shops. (One shop hadn't arrived at a solution on a high end wrap job.)
it is generally best to apply film to a fully painted and sealed finish, but I have seen plenty of race cars wrapped over primed panels successfully. Not warranted though.
I removed the side panel on my 09 Nissan Titan and they had clips holding the front piece on which left about 5 holes on the front doors what should I do with them before applying a vinyl wrap?
Jordi Pujol only if you pull it off without adding heat. Use a hairdryer or a heat gun before so it can thin out the adhesive and will be easier to pull off.
ok...The unpainted Plastic parts...not to wrap...is False. Ive wrapped unpainted Plastic bumpers, Door Handles, trim molding and other things without no problems. I started wrapping 3 years ago and started on my Wifes 2004 Dodge Durango. where I wrapped her rear Step Bumper.Running Boards..and Door Handles. Still to this day...it looks like I did it yesterday. So maybe you wasn't using a good Adhesive Grade Material.
That makes 2 of us. I was going to say the same thing but point has been made. That information is false and probably just saying that to cover their asses for any type of complaints.
I realize asking this question will make your skin crawl. However, I have to ask. Why is it not recommended to put vinyl wrap over bare metal? It is smooth and rigid. What are the concerns with it? Rusting?
