As a Carat I’m definitely biased but I’m so proud to see our maknae ranked so high. J-Hope on 1st is honestly so well deserved, he’s one of my favorite dancers in kpop. He has such an interesting style and never fails to deliver the choreo with a similar vibe as the original, while adding some of his personal style :)
as an army, I will say you have a lot to be proud of!! Seventeen undeniably has one of the most impressive dance lines in the industry. I haven't done deep dives into their content but everything I see from Dino, The8, and Hoshi is just crazy. I would love to see Dino and Hobi dance together. as a Hobi ult: thank you for your kind words for him 😊💜
@@curvytangerine Aww ofc, people tend to rivalize a lot under such videos and it's so sad to see.. thank you for being so respectful, I hope you can discover more of Svt if you feel like it ^^
i didn’t expect to see Wang Yibo here!! such a pleasant surprise. i’m such a fan of his dancing and seeing his development as a dancer over the years has been so interesting
Dino made it to Nr 2 OMG. Well deserved. He is truly one of my favorite dancers in kpop. I think he's fantastic and I hope we get more dance content from him in the future when he's less busy than right now . I miss his danceologies. He Jimin and j-hope are my absolute favorite dancers to watch in kpop from any gen to be honest. Glad to see all 3 of them up there in the top 5. Ten is great too.
Now that I heard some of the most greatest dancers in the scene are featured in his docuseries I’m even more excited! He is gonna break the internet for sure
J-hope has to be the most alluring dancer I’ve laid my eyes on in Kpop. He’s got every single criteria I’m looking for and I’m pretty much picky on this matter! The overall look of his dance always seems so balanced and clean, and that’s so pleasing to watch tbh. I hope he showcases his skillset way much more and get the recognition as he deserves. Thank you for the video. Well done.
it would be great if you make a video about the differences between dance styles generation in kpop, like why its "typical 3rd gen main dancer" im so curious about that because definetly the styles that companys teach to their trainees have changed throught the years... thank you for the video!! good as always ❤
So glad VIXX's N is getting recognized here for his style and elegance! 👏 I've always found him to be captivating. And I love the breakdown of how he achieves the controlled/manipulated effect, which is a common theme in VIXX's choreo.
@@curvytangerine He has some lovely solo dance performances and can slay any GG choreo thrown his way. If you're looking to get into VIXX, I recommend "Voodoo Doll" and "Hyde" for the horror concepts that made them famous (they are creepy, so watch the clean versions if you're squeamish), "Shangri-La" for elegance (N danced the concept performance film for this release), "Dynamite" for a funky track, "Error" for a strong, sad story, and "Chained Up" because it's a bop.
@@rrringles thank you so much, I'm taking a screenshot of this so I don't forget! and I LOVE horror so Vixx sounds right up my alley 😉 no clean version for me.
def interested in watching more of N too! which song is the one with where he's dressed in black and the backup dancers as well (BONAFIDE studio), from the video. Can't seem to find it
Jisung my boy!!! Sometimes I think he doesn't use his full power in dancing, maybe coz he is trying to not disturb group dance, but would like to watch his 100% energy one day 🥺💚
yessss. as an example, when he does a tiktok with another person from a different group he goes less powerful! for example when him and jaemin filmed the istj dance with eunchae, you could tell jisung wasn’t dancing very hard and i think it’s because he doesn’t want to overshine anyone!
If giving 100% on stage had a face, it would have been Jhope. Jhope is the best dancer and perfomer of the generation. He is so complete. In terms of stage presence, even when he doesn't dances, just the rapping performances gives you an adrenaline rush.
Ten on top 3!! love watching him dance and perform. He is so fluid and he hits all the beats. would love to see a complete analysis after nightwalker releases
WOW, thank you SO MUCH for the truly extensive amount of work you've put into not just making this video, but observing so many dancers and recording your thoughts for us. you always bring so many dancers to my attention that were only somewhat on my radar before or that I'd never heard of at all. you also do a lot to further my education when it comes to what to look for in a street dancer or open dancer's movement. so far I've only skimmed through the video (though I am going to watch the entire thing after this comment). but I wanted to say a couple things while they were on my mind. first of all, you know you have put a smile on my face once again with your ranking of Hobi as #1 3rd gen male dancer. I absolutely agree and see him as second overall only to Taemin in open style. I'm also thrilled to see Ten in the top 3 as he's another dancer I think is astronomically talented and is one of my favorites. and it's great to see Jimin so high up as well, he definitely deserves it! BTS represent! Dino I need to watch more for sure. I've been very impressed when I've seen him, just haven't watched much from his group. secondly: I think what some people need to keep in mind when considering your rankings here is that this is a ranking for _open style._ open style may incorporate various genres of dance, but its _foundation_ is street dance. idol group choreo has its roots deep in street, and this is why Hobi's extensive knowledge of that genre serves him so well. we may see some idol choreo dabble in ballroom or contemporary or folk, but even then, those steps are couched within street-based choreography in the same routine. it's sad to see that street dance still often doesn't get the flowers it deserves as an art form in the eyes of the general public. at least on this channel, it does.
It’s so great that jhope is getting that recognition he deserves bc often media only capture dancers like jimin taemin and kai. i think people who aren’t army don’t understand the full extent of how amazing of a dancer jhope is if they’ve only seen performances of him in bts.
Oh my god, I'm flabbergasted you included Wang Yibo. Idk why I thought you wouldn't, but I'm so glad you did! I've been a fan of his dancing ever since I saw his solo of Swalla and his Candy Shop/Drop It Like It's Hot dance break 😭😭
Oh wow, this must have taken so much work! I'm not surprised to see J-Hope at #1, he's second only to Taemin in dance in the K-pop industry imo, and I'm also really happy to see Dino and Ten at #2 and 3, since they're also two of my absolute favorites. It was great to see Yibo here and ranked so highly as well - I've really loved his work on Street Dance of China, and appreciate how committed he is to continuously learning and growing as a dancer. I'm a carat, so it's nice to see Hoshi and The8 in the top 10 as well! I was a little surprised to see Kai so low, but I'm not very familiar with a few of the people you ranked above him, and even #14 really isn't THAT low when you're ranking this many guys. Thanks for sharing! As someone whose dance training was mostly in ballet, I always feel like I learn so much from your videos.
@@anomkan right? literally most of WayV are main or lead dancers and we have Mark, TY, HC, Yuta, JW and JH when it comes to 127 and they are also amazing. leave them in a room alone and they can put dance the entire industry
I can't even begin to imagine how much work this must have been! You watched at least 80 fancams for this, right? I appreciate your content so much in the general K-pop RU-vid sphere 🙏
1 - I never realized that Dawn was that good of a dancer. I knew he was a well developed and versatile performer, but to know that his foundation is that solid really explains why he manages to portray so many characters 2 - while he is one of my three favorite dancers in kpop let's all find the name of whoever trained Taeyong and make sure he is fired from any trainer job he applies to. Also, is interesting how you pointed out that Taeyong had to step up to become a dancer, just imagine how much he had to rush to become a main one 3 - Monsta X was that group. They are still great performers who release great music, so that's fine 4 - I saw your "SM 2nd and 3rd gen boy groups" tier and as someone who loves Shinee as a dance group it was very satisfying to see you rank them so high (specially Key, who is on the same level as Kai and Haechan). I know I will enjoy your 2nd gen video (whenever it is published)
About 2, I'm really not sure if any specific teacher is to blame or if it's sm in general not giving their teachers enough time to properly teach either :/ I had experiences like that too, trying to teach hip hop basics at a dance school but they wanted me to spend all time on preparing them for a choreographed performance And glad to hear interest in the 2nd gen video!
@@facts_in_fiction it's more because Taeyong has said before that his dance teacher said he was a lost cause, so we can assume that maybe he was too rigorous overall. But as someone who takes hip hop classes I understand what you said
I knew Jisung going to be in the top 10 ☺ We all know Jisung's forte is popping but he was also a B-boy when he was young. He also got insane body control like his crazy good musicality. Jisung's biggest problem is toning down his dancing to blend with the group and it became a habit. Personally, I wished he would stop doing that because it's not beneficial for him at all. Honestly, their group choreos don't do the justice for him. It looks too easy for him. I wished he had more chances to shine as the main dancer like the other main dancers. Manifesting more dancer Jisung from this year and he finally gets his well deserved recognition. I like your channel becasue you always give his flowers. (Please do a full analysis for Jisung. I can give you more materials you might not have seen before 🙏)
I don’t think he is ‘toning down’ to match Dream as a group. Popping and doing insane control with his height can be insanely tiring so I think he doing that consciously so he can preserve his energy as he is not someone who has an insane amount of energy like Jeno for example. You can see how quick he can be tired after doing Super cover in Dream fanmeeting. Probably his previous injury take toll to his stamina aswell tbh
@@summernight2752 nope. He in fact does tone down a lot. His energy when he dances alone and when he dances with the group is different. He is a lot more powerful when he dances alone.
@@neozone96tbh we don’t have many occasions where he dance alone for a longer duration (even a normal song duration even) besides his dance break in award shows so ofc his energy is very different in comparison with the way he dance in the group where he can dances for up to an hour straight. Like ofc he tones down his dance in the group, but it is not because the group holding him back (as he still can dance powerful in some moments like Hello Future last chorus, Ridin, and many more) but because it is his way to preserve energy where he can usually go 80% in certain moments but can be 120% in the other moments.
@@youtubeisntallowingmetocom9062 people definitely sleep on dino (not just saying because he's my ult bias and doesn't get the recognition he deserves despite being so immensely talented) and why i said jhope is because i have a lot of army friends and whenever it comes to dancing they always talk about jimin and jungkook while jhope is pushed to the rap line and i said it in that sense
Rightt? I'm so happy as Dino ult and former ARMY, it hurts knowing both of them are often forgotten by both fandom and just K-Pop fans in general. Their collaboration will be the death of me.
Dino is such an amazing dancer i wish ppl would appreciate him more (and im looking at y'all carats who like to not appreciate the makane line (not all carats obvi))
@@Svtcore17 Boochan are my ult biases and I love Vernon sm but sadly they get underapreciated all the time and it sucks because a lot of the times it’s carats who do so … like I saw a video of someone ranking Dino first in dance in Svt and ppl in the comments were like “no way Hoshi isn’t first “ “Hoshi is better “ … sometimes carats disappoint me
@@Teeeeooo honestly I really feel bad too. But I couldn't care less ranking the members or being offended if dino or hoshi were put 1st place in dance. I'm not here to see who's better lol. I'm here to enjoy music.
@@Teeeeooo true I completely agree with that. Like you mentioned about dino and hoshi I've seen the same with Kwannie and Dk. And Vernon is just... Idk no one mentions him enough. He's also really involved in production and writing lyrics and is a great rapper. Yet anyone barely talks about him. I do hope that the fandom appreciate them more.
I’m a little late but good job on the video!! You’ve worked so hard on it. The number of fancams and amount of editing is making my head spin 😵💫 Really really appreciate how many groups you’ve managed to cover here. I’ve been dying for people to look at Ikon, euijin and yibo specifically so this was really nice 🥹 I do think your top 11 selection is just full of wonderful dancers. Such a great range of styles (including our one and only proper krump rep in the list like I want to see more). Honestly you could probably make an argument for any one of them to be the best since for each one of them you find individual skillsets that you can’t really find the others matching. But I am absolutely thrilled to see Dino so high up he’s so so good, so so excellent and SO SO underrated ❤ I do think we have a decent range of abilities/backgrounds covered by these bg dancers. But I would still like to see more! Would be nice to see more people come in from less represented street styles and maybe something like jazz. Looking forward to the others!!
dino number 2!! EXACTLY!!! people miss so much amazing dancing by ignoring him. all you have to do is watch any fancam and any dance routine he has posted and ur mind would be blown
there's something about N (no 17) - despite not displaying that street groove he brings another kind of charisma and drama and can be ethereal and dirty all at the same time. a really stunning dance performer
I haven't finished the whole video and i don't know most of the idols i've seen so far in the video but i just wanted to say that i really appreciate your videos especially because i know nothing of dancing, i'm on the other side of the spectrum, my area of expertise is strictly scientific so anything artistic is completely foreign to me but channels like you that explain art in the most boring detailed manner aka the scientific way actually makes me appreciate the hard work and intelligence behind the beauty, ngl i was one of those who took theatrical arts _dancing, acting and singing_ for granted but now i don't and partly because of you so thank you and i hope you keep making such detailed videos
no you’re so right about jhope bc i feel like kpop stans are always so hyper focused on the one who dances the hardest or the fastest and ofc some of those aspects require skill but like you said, jhope has that understanding of dancing that gives him the ability to be really good at executing any style of dancing he tries.
Not really surprised by your no.1, well deserved - I felt like some of your higher ranks got more critiques then your lower ranks. Do the positives of them really out way the negatives that much - I do kinda wish you did some more analysis on people you already analyze to see if they improved in the last couple months. - of the new dancers you analyzed who was most interesting to examine
Yes, I might focus on the negatives but the higher ranks have much more positives (I only point out the especially positive aspects because the video would be really repetitive otherwise) When I see changes in technique I will talk about it but I don't think that is the case with the 3rd gen groups For this video? Probably Dawn because it was interesting to see his gradual change of style over the years
@KPOPDanceDeepDives Question who do you think is better riize shotaro or enhypen Niki i can't seem to decide who, they both have different styles niki way of dancing have changed over the past years which is my kinda style of dancing he's become more fluid recently utilizing his isolation more often I haven't seen more content from shotaro so I can't really compare them that much@@facts_in_fiction
I think jisung is less suited for kpop dancing honestly, he adopted some techniques to suit it but i feel like he needs to branch out to actually show his strengths
I think taeyong reminds me a bit of stray kids hyunjin in the way that he had no real dance background and was never able to build a strong foundation in dance. They both have a lot of potential, especially hyunjin has a really good sense of musicality but they both heavily rely on strong masculine facial expressions and tight and tense movements. It's not that noticeable to a lot of people since they are considered as a central part of the group so their concepts focus a lot around them, especially with nct. They shine in choreographies that consider their strengths (e.g hyunjins studio choom performance which caters to his style perfectly) however they struggle with versatility and choreographies that don't allow them to transfer their specific style. It's sad that this is not considered in the basic idol training and that "stage presence" has such a strong hold on people that they oftentimes fail to understand the difference between an idol that dances, and a dancer that has been trained properly. I find myself agreeing with you a lot so I appreciate all your videos greatly!! Thank you for being so detailed with your explanations and for offering your perspective ♡
Overall, I agree at hundred percent about Hyunjin and Taeyong. But Hyunjin didn't have trained in a specific style before ? (sorry for my english, i'm not an english speaker)
A.C.E IS IN HERE???????? that makes me so happy!! can I be greedy and request a full group analysis because I am really curious about your analysis of the other 3 members as well 👉👈
I'm so happy that you included N, I was always so aggravated when people never mentioned him when talking about 3rd gen main dancers just because his style wasn't as masculine or powerful as what was the standard for that gen
DINO!!!! Ugh I seriously can’t stand how little recognition dino gets for how good he is!! I feel like I can hear the music and break down the dance better with how precise dino is! Thank you for sharing!
I think your comment that Donghyuk often stays in the box is pretty accurate. He seemed to do that in his pre-debut videos too and has never really outgrown it. All this time I could never put a finger on what was off but now I know! Nevertheless, I'm quite happy you had good things to say about him! It's inspiring because he's one of the dancers who didn't have the most solid dance background prior to entering a company. While a lot of idols can stagnate at this point, most of his improvement happened over the course of his trainee days/career which is always nice to see, and it's the reason why I've always seen him as someone who was assigned md not because he's the best (even if he is) but because no one else is as passionate about it as him and he'd definitely marinate in the studio to improve.
My personal favorite dancer is Jisung and I love how you appreciate him and give him recognition. Many channels leave him out this kind of list and it's a crime
Haechan in 18, yes! Honestly, haechan is an underrated dancer. Maybe bc he is a vocalist, but bf being a vocalist he rlly trained being a dancer and even learned most of the type of dances. He learned ballet, jazz, ballroom etc. He has a a great sense of musicality and a good proportion/body line. That's why even his "messy" movement, is I still beautiful because of his body line & technique
Honestly I looked too this video cause I saw Yibo in the title which got me excited. I was wondering if B.A.P would be mentioned (one of my favorite groups) and was glad to see them included. I agree with your analysis of both and wanted to add that I believe Zelo is an amazing dancer however similar to B.A.Ps main vocalist Daehyun who has an incredible voice, they lacked the proper training to create a proper foundation in their respective skills imo.
I'm so happy to see you've included Woojin, I feel he's so overlooked nowadays in main dancer discussions. He did unfortunately have to take a bit of a break from dancing & be more careful about it now due to his knee injury, and ab6ix's choreos usually prioritize different things than wanna one's, but it's nice to see him still make it to the top of the high MD tier.
What is MD? I’m not a native English speaker so Google didn’t give me any proper answers. It’s like Master Dancer? Or what? Seeing Hoseok ranked 1st makes my heart flutter. Guys from SVT and BTS are truly amazing. My eyes always feel blessed watching them dance. One thing about Jimin is also his contemporary dance education. This makes him stand out a lot. I also wanna state that BTS have one of the best dance line in kpop if not the best. Their 3J trio is no joke
Thanks for making this! Must have been sooo much work. I think my favorite is Ten, because he has an elegent style and an ability to convey emotions through his dance (reminds me of Taemin a bit). J-hope and Dino are also fantastic. Looking forward to the 2nd gen edition!
i didn't even notice that this was a 53 min video 😭😭 i thoroughly enjoyed it and it was nice seeing great dancers from groups that i don't really hear much about/never heard from before. i always appreciate these videos you make and the crazy amount of effort you put into these. and dino!!! i really wish he gets even more recognition for his dancing skills, he needs to get mentioned more in the best kpop dancers discussions. j-hope really is such a great dancer, he had always caught my eye from the start. he's so very admirable
I really hope you could also make one for the best 4th gen male dancers, and include underrated groups such as dkb, ntx, mirae, mcnd, vanner, trendz, etc.
@@facts_in_fiction In mirae, Siyoung and Junhyuk are the main dancers but I think Yubin, amd Dongpyo are also good dancers. And in ntx, Jaemin is their main dancer, and Seungwon is their lead dancer, but I personally think Yunhyeok and Eunho are also good dancers (honestly all of the members are main/lead dancer material).
as someone trying to learn hip hop and open style dancing, your videos are really informative and entertaining. thank you for taking the time to do these! they really help me when learning by myself. i'm so happy you're making a wayv video! can't wait to see your analysis on hendery. he's an incredibly interesting dancer, and was second to ten in my opinion during debut-take off-moonwalk era, however he picked up some strange habits over the years and yangyang has improved fast enough to surpass him. i'm looking forward to your thoughts on him!
JR of NU'EST/ Kim Jonghyeon was the only male trainee in Pledis when the company started accepting male trainees. He trained alone for a whole year. He was from another city and lived with a manager and ate only noodles for a whole year. He was 13. Then he got an injury during that time that stopped him from dance practice. He debuted as the leader at 16 years old, 2-3 years after he got into the company. They debuted with a song called Face that was the most watched boy group debut mv on youtube for years. Then after a while their company basically lost interest in them. It was a whole roller coaster of a journey for them. JR being the leader of the group many times said that he felt responsible that they were not doing well. He was 21 when he was called Nation's Leader in Produce 101. They had a lot of good and bad experiences. They now have disbanded and are doing solo activities including solo debuts, acting, musicals, mcing and much more! Now I don't know much about dancing so I have no opinions about his tier or skills. I just wanted to let people know about how he started his career. Also he was street casted in front of his school and had no prior interest in being an idol.
NCT's Taeyong, Haechan, Ten , Jisung being included made me go Yay! 😻!!Best dancers in NCT, flaws and all. I'm not a dancer but Im happy that they made it in your rankings esp Taeyong since it is well known that he has zero dance training when he entered SM. Haechan, Ten and Jisung definitely are top tier dancers 💚
I agree with most of these, especially number 1. People have different opinions but Hoseok, he's always going to be THAT dancer for me. And I'm glad Yibo's high up there too, so underrated.
I appreciate the work you put into this! Nice to see some idols who don’t get mentioned in the dancer conversation as much on here. Regarding Woojin, I think his knee injury is a likely reason for the difference you see in more recent performances, as well as a reason he may struggle with completing footwork. As someone who injured their knee in the same way… it makes dancing a lot harder, even several years out. He doesn’t do some parts of their chores at all anymore. It makes me a little sad for where he could have been, but I’m super proud of him for getting back to the level he’s at! It had to be hard! Happy to see him ranked so high! Speaking of things that make me kind of sad though, it’s tragic imo that N doesn’t seem to have much interest in performing onstage anymore cause it’s really a loss for everyone!! I don’t keep track of vixx as much as I did in the past, but I haven’t heard any indication that he’s dancing at all anymore, since it seems increasingly unlikely that he’ll return to vixx. It’s a damn shame honestly! I’ll still hope he’ll come back again one day though :’)
That makes sense, I didn't know that the knee is still causing problems I heard N wanted to join the comeback but the schedule didn't allow it? But yeah it's a shame
I always enjoy your dance analysis videos. I am good at spotting excellent dancers, but I don't know the "why" behind it, so you teach me a lot. Yeah, my top bg dancers in 3rd gen are 3. Jimin (he just takes my breath away), 2. J-Hope (very clearly a top dancer and he radiates joy), and 1. Ten (beautiful movement, seems to always be exactly on point). I admire the hours, days, and years that all idols devote to their craft. True artists.
Wowww your dedication to Made this video is amazing, I LOOVEEE how you include the small group or even the group that never known.. bcs if we see a Dance rank in other channel usually consist of the BIG3, HYBE or other group that already popular and known.. and i'm sick of fans who yapping and stating that his faves (who are in popular group) is the best dancer, like bish u don't even know other group who had an amazing dancer. That's why i was soo exited and scream along while watching your video..i don't even though Yibo would be here 🥹 And i'm really agree with your top 10, hobi being no.1 is soo on point, bcs if we see him as a dancer not a BTS nember he already had that amazing street dance basic since predebut and his groove is really unmatchable. Next video ihope you made Thr Best Dancer in 4th GEN BG&GG... Bcs as we already knew that majority of 4th gen really consist of amazing dancerr. 🤍
Seeing Rocky recognized makes me happy. Most people outside Astro's fandom would most likely rank him lower to set their faves higher. I'm glad he gets recognition even if he's no longer a part of Astro ❤
Objectively, as a pro dancer myself, I don’t think i have seen any idol as good as Lay and Taemin (2nd gen). It’s upsetting sometimes that people tend to overlook lay because of non-participation with the group but seriously, he’s a different breed.

@@mr.knight8735 Oh you do? but didn't you just say no one is at Taemin's and Lay's level? Honestly, when it comes to range, I honestly think they both aren't in Ten's level. As much as I love Taemin and Lay, they are more of like "specialists" of certain genres. Ten on the other hand is such a chameleon, he looks like a pro in any genre.
Excellent video as always ! It's interesting to note that the most "skilled" dancers are from recent group, showing that training system changed a lot between and within generation. It's a bit of a shame you couldn't develop further your explaination on the weaker dancer but I get why, likely because of the amount of idol on this list ahah. Anyway, I enjoyed a lot !

I would put Jisung above Ten, but that's just me lmao. Also, where would Ong Seongwu, who was the third of Wanna One's 3 main dancers (Woojin, Daniel) go? He doesn't dance much now, but there's enough pre-debut content from his popping battles IMO.
