I’m analyzing and discussing kpop dance through the lens of my knowledge/experience in commercial, open/fusion style choreography and various “street styles”. Because of my background in multiple styles I also want to acknowledge that there are different, often contradicting opinions among dancers on even the most fundamental aspects of dance. Different dance scenes, cultures and styles have different approaches, care about different things and have different technical demands.
About my rankings: There is no objective, agreed upon scale or list of criteria that one can follow, at least not for ever changing styles like the ones seen in kpop. Dance is an art form and many dancers don’t believe in rankings and ratings at all (and you don’t have to, either). I am trying to assess to what extent an idol has “mastered” the different technical elements that are needed for commercial or open style choreography and how functional their overall technique is.
They think... Hanni + engages upper body to support upgrade, overall good form + most authentic waacking technique (talking the whole choreo into account too) Minji + strong and dynamic - sometimes a little messy Haerin + very clean, good placement - passive torso, legs don't go full out Danielle + nice hands, good energy -lower body is uncoordinated (a problem that she constantly has), shapes can be unclear Hyein + timing and overall choreo matches -stiff wrists, unstable feet, struggles with alignment and coordination ?
Hi, Is the reason that jimin is “off-balance” that made you place him 2nd? I came here after I watched the third gen bg ranking and most of the rankings are based on proper and perfect hip hop style execution ( any variant) with the elements you prefer, with little to no recognition for Jimins contemporary skills or his ability to combine different styles to create his own unique style. Not placing jimin at the top or even top 2 is unimaginable.
@@superstar-nova no, and the 3rd gen ranking was not based on hip hop lol otherwise Rocky would not be near the top 10 and Dino wouldn't be 2nd. It's mainly about refinement, but I've said plenty of times that the top ranks are the most complicated to rank and you are free to disagree
@@facts_in_fictionEven if thats the case it just doesnt make sense 😭 we all have different opinions and i absolutely agree, neither of us or anyone can truly rank them but if its based on refinement then jimins not given proper credit in your video (i do think you have a personal preference of street styles <3)
@@superstar-nova this is based on open style, which is mainly based on choreographed fusion of street styles. But Jimin is better at street styles (boogaloo and hip hop) than contemporary anyways..
@@facts_in_fiction Okay, i see. I “mixed” the styles but the question still stands, why is his refinement skills still under appreciated. (Jimin is still great at both. After joining a hip hop band he did not get to showcase his modern dancing skill up until he performed lie in 2016. When he first started as a modern dancer : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PzSCllAxnlE.htmlsi=31EwSyA7BdjaPlix )
what i love about them is that they improved instead of just not have any improvement at all. especially giselle and winter, they got a ton of backlash back then for not syncing up with the group and look at them now.
3 of my faves in the top ten (Jimin, Dino, and Rocky, in that order of preference)? Hell yeah! I also like Shownu too. Plus Taemin, though obviously he's not 3rd gen. I'm stunned that I apparently have good taste lol.
Besides the chorus, for me, Ningning owned the rest of the music. It's not about doing the coreo just right, but about how can you captivate with your performance. All the members are good in this, but Ningning always catch my eyes. She's one of the best performers of this fourth generation of kpop. Honestly, aespa deserves all the praise they get.
I love how karina creates all these big moves, but still keeps it so precise. I'm not a dancer, but Karina makes me interested in learning. There's this something extra where you feel like she's not just doing the choreo but adding sth to it that's so satisfying. She knows exactly what to do and when to do it to make the choreography look more interesting. Her performance is most fun to watch for me, it feels the most complete.
There is a strange misconception about Karina and you can see it in the comment section here. "X member has better technique and Karina has powerr & footwork" Karina is reduced to someone whose only positive is energy and footwork (yes it's one of her main strengths but not her only!), while her technique is completely overlooked so that they can praise x member. They're all good at different technical elements, and Karina is best overall there too ❤
Some winter stans here are so bitter to the fact that karina is better. And whenever theres vid or comment praising karina theyre always there pushing their fave like winter doesnt get enough recognition or somethin
I just can't accept Jun's ranking. I understand his injury limits him sometimes but IMO he's one of the most fluid and soft while at the same time powerful dancers of the group. His movements are just so easy on the eyes I could watch him dance for hours. I'm pretty sure that's why a lot of people love center Jun.
Honestly Matthew's dancing is addicting to watch but I do sometimes think he occasionally sticks out when it's in a group formation, because he's just always feeling the music SO MUCH hahaha. I admire how his background has solidified his dancing style to be so recognisably 'Matthew'. Gunwook is a top performer across the board when i watched his Here I Am final fancam his body lines are aesthetically pleasing and clean, definitely someone meant to be on stage. I'm going to watch more of Jiwoong now that I read he took part choreographing his old group's dance INX's Alright (but besides kprofiles i cant find other sources for it) Thank you for all the thorough analysis!
