Thanks for this video. I will have a 3rd grader next year and I am still researching ideas for piecing together LA curriculum so this video was very helpful.

Ashley, very random question. Do you do one on one service for overwhelmed mamas? 🙏🏽

We are using Logos Cursive handwriting this coming school year also! My 2nd grader keeps begging me for cursive and out of all the ones I reviewed, Logos was my favorite curriculum. Im really looking forward to your updates/reviews next year, you're choices for your 3rd grader are awesome! 😊

Fifty Famous Stories will be great for narration practice. Aesop's Fables work really well too.

Great video! You showed so many things I’ve never heard of before, which is perfect because I don’t love the things I’ve heard of. 😅 Also, now that it’s a year later, I’m curious to know if you enjoyed these choices? Thank you!

I love the idea of using the all about reading level 4 combined with the Not Consumed reading curriculum! Also, have you ever seen the Easy Peasy All in One Homeschool Readers? They are very advanced! So I thought I would go a few levels higher than my daughters grade and use them for her read aloud. They have awesome literature broke down into daily readings and even include questions to ask them. 😊

I didn’t know Easy Peasy had readers!! That’s cool!!

Thank you for your video! I have an idea of a video you could create…would it be possible for you to describe the process of how you go about having your son narrate a read aloud or a personal reading he has done…the process of how he tells you what he remembers, how you write down his response and how he copies it. Perhaps it is just that simple of a process but I would l love and appreciate a separate video explaining the process. I’ve been meaning to read Know and Tell by Karen Glass for ages but I haven’t gotten to it! Lol! Thank you for being a light in the homeschooling community.

Hi Ashley! I am curious what are you using to finish out your son’s reading instruction if you’re no longer using AAR? I’m just curious because my kids have been using it and since it’s on such a specific path as far as the order phonograms are introduced and new reading rules that it seems like they have to go till the end. (Side note, my kids love AAR but lately they have just been getting bored and weary of it…) also I am really curious about the Not Consumed reading journals. Thanks!
@JoyfulNoiseLiving
@JoyfulNoiseLiving Год назад
Well, this son of mine is a very intuitive reader. I haven't had to teach him much directly. He picks phonics up really easily with just reading books! But He has been doing explode the code, and I think that works for him. He did book 3 and 4 this year. And then he just reads through the readers of AAR, like I said. When he comes to a new phoneme, I just tell him what it is, and he learns it right away. If your kids are just getting bored, you could try taking a break, or going a little quicker and not doing all the activities that are required. It helped us a lot when we simplified and didn't do everything required in a lesson. I just used the practice sheets and skipped on the word cards for a long time before just going to the readers.

This happened to me with my daughter. We did AAR 1 in Kindergarten and AAR 2 in 1st grade. We just started 2nd grade in June and she made it clear she didn’t want to do AAR3 months before, so I got the Booster B cards from TGTB and readers and had her do those through out the endish of 1st grade year and now this year second grade she started Booster C cards with the Readers. She’s reading great and loves the booster and readers. And I don’t see anything she missed in between.

Do you feel like once they are done a the explode the code levels they will be quiet fluent in reading? Like at least able to read alone and not use any form of readers? We have 2 lessons left (maybe a couple of weeks) of book 3 and going to book 4. We use Bob Books for actual reading. I do tons of read alouds. We losely follow AO and are in year 1.
@JoyfulNoiseLiving
@JoyfulNoiseLiving Год назад
This is so close to what we have used! I do believe that being fluent in reading depends on every child. My youngest seems to be such a quick and intuitive reader, I haven't had to do much! But not all kids are this way. My 10 year old has really struggled and needed more hand holding and direct instruction. :) I think if you keep doing what you're doing your kids will get there!

Hi, you mentioned Logos Press cursive and I was wondering what capital "Q" they use? Is it the one that looks a "2" or the more "Q" looking one? Thank you 👍
@JoyfulNoiseLiving
@JoyfulNoiseLiving Год назад
I’m so sorry! I haven’t used the books yet, so I don’t know. In the samples it looks like there’s not a lot of usage of the capital Q. I’m sorry I’m not more help 😔

Can I ask what you're using for younger ones if you're no longer using AAR?
@JoyfulNoiseLiving
@JoyfulNoiseLiving Год назад
I don’t have any younger ones :) My 2nd Grader was using Explode the code along with the AAR readers and any other book he chose to read. I do still recommend Levels 1-3 for teaching how to read for younger kiddos! All my kids have just passed all those levels now.
