Kit unboxing video • 4-Mation Zoetrope Kit ... (with optional Frogs V2 animation set) that video also shows kit assembly - I can do it in 5 minutes! but it should take most people less than 1/2 hour.
This 3D zoetrope is a 20 frame animation, which at 25fps lasts less than a second, and yet the story it tells is much longer than that.

Oh excellent !! i love what you have done right there All what you explain make sense :) Can you answer me how to spin(rotate) the holder at constant speed ? it's like rotate by exactly 18 (360/20) degree-angle than it stopped for some millisecond than rotate again by 18 ! is it like that ?

I'm not trying to brag, I am working on some animation stuff and stumbled open this product. I am new to animation but I knew variable frame rates were key!! 24 cause industry standard, 41 cause real eyes realize real lies.

I like it. But the total length must be an exact multiple of 20. Total frames=60, not 72.

I see your logic, but it's an intuition trap and incorrect. Watch the video from here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-U8ZHJwjGL5s.html each individual figure in the animation is counted. See the frogs as well - that's 39 frames of frogs.

@@n0f8r If true, that's pretty neat. I'm still not buying it, though!! I can't see how that is possible. I'm going to think about more. Very cool objects! I would love to understand your design process. I assume you've developed some custom tools. It would be cool if it were possible somehow that by changing color of the lights, you see completely different animations, possibly of different periods, or reversing direction.

@@n0f8r Frame 60 is the end. The little fish already ate the big fish @ frame 48/49. Why do you repeat this again at 67/68? That makes no sens to me.

@@BillHustonPodcast The story begins when the fish comes out of the clam and ends when that SAME fish is eaten. At frame 50, the original fish is eating the fish that was already there, but the original fish does not get eaten until frame 72. Thus, the full story, that is, the full life cycle of each fish, is 72 frames.

What camera would i need to film this?

Any camera can work - even a phone camera with a manual camera app. But to avoid the rolling shutter effect you can see in this video (curved segment lines) you want a camera with fast sensor readout. This video was filmed on a panasonic LX100, but I use a Fuji XT4 now which has a faster sensor. My recent videos have less rolling shutter distortion. The key is that you need to control the camera shutter speed. 1/2000s for filming without strobes, and 1/25 seconds for filming with strobes (if you're filming at 25FPS).

@@clarkanine that's what the heart of 4-mation is; a strobe control system, tailored for zoetropes - integrated with 216 watts of custom RGB strobe panels. There is no other such system to buy off the shelf. But you can get one here: 4-mation.co.uk. The "Turntable Kit" is basically that core - all you're paying for is the electronics, it relies on an external turntable, and the included frame kit only contributes a few dollars to the total cost.
