We had a surprise visit at the Swedish air force air show last summer. Both a Eurofighter and a Tornado showed up and they stood parked the whole day. The Eurofighter was so much larger than I’d imagined. Probably because I’m used to seeing the Jas 39 Gripen, wich is quite a bit smaller. I certainly fell in love.
@coningsbylive

I love the Gripen, lovely aircraft. The Swedish know how to make lovely airplanes. I got a video of the Swedish historical flight arriving at the RIAT Airshow in the UK. It was the first time i saw the Draken in the Air.

I worked on the EF programme since I was an apprentice at Warton in 1990 working on the Front Fuselages on DA1 & 2 through to 2017 on the Tranche 2 builds in the Certification area and lots of roles in between. What a programme, what people with skills and dedication that few will ever appreciate. Proud to have been part of this epic product and those who are now involved with Typhoon stand on the shoulders of giants who I hope are never forgotten.

@albar1883
@albar1883 Год назад
@@coningsbylive loads, what type of titbits would you like. I cannot give any sensitive info. Did u know the original spec called for an auto ladder as a part of the front fuse that would extend and retract with the push of a button. I think it was hydraulic but might be wrong. This was worked on for ages but we couldn’t get it to work so it was designed out. The early DAs had RB199s (Tornado engine) fitted for a long period whilst the EJ200s were being tested prior to Cert. There was some research for vectored thrust on the EJ200s using a mechanical nozzle but nothing came of this.
@coningsbylive
@coningsbylive Год назад
@@albar1883 I didn't realise until I saw a red flag vid that there was a ladder built into them. One thing we notice on the live streams is that they leave the gear down a lot when doing circuits. At lakenheath they alway raise the gear on missed approach but the typhoon leave them down

Hi Mud - These are called performance take off by the RAF, you are not guaranteed to see them doing this if you visit the base. But when they do we love them. We do live shows at Coningsby and sometimes we can go a whole day and not see 1, then you can have several on the same day. Apparently the pilots need to do a burner take off, and this is the best way to reduce stress and noise for the village.
