I know the E30 is the king and things like that, but when someone mention BMW racecars, always the STW 320 comes into my mind. Maybe because I was too young around the DTM golden era and I grew up while watching BTCC and STW races, but the my all time favourite in touringcars is the E36.

THE perfect engine sound! It is based on the m3 E30 so it had to be great. Nice vids !

Not really. The s14 in the e30 m3 is based on a m10, while the s42b20 is based on the m42b18 (318is). One of the most underrated bmw engines ever. In the development stage they produces 160bhp and were detuned to 140bhp, because bmw was scared that people would buy them instead of a 320i or 325i.

@@amduser86 In europe for sure, because we get to experience the almighty m43 engines. Sadly the usa would still hate on m42's even if it was 160bhp stock. I think I'd take m50b25nv over 160bhp m42. But m42 over 320i and m52b25? Any time!

The STW didn't have S14 Blocks, those were bored out , heavily modified M42 / M44

The first STW were S14, after they changed to S42's

These supposed to have an S42 engine. Heavely modified M42 base engine, by BMW motorsport. 300 ish HP

They used from 1995 further on the s42 engine. Before 1995 they used the s14 but with the "Italo" block (2l)

I guess this is kinda definitive proof that the e36 sedan was lighter than the coupe. I mean I've seen it when I've looked it up,but no weight is consistent from site to site so I always kinda half believed it. I always thought it was because extra glass in the coupe weights more than the extra metal used in the sedan..do these race cars still use glass? Wouldn't it be some kinda "plexi" glass?

The STW regulation was 4 doors sedans with mas 2 liter engines.

go for the coupe. more stability of chassis and better Aero and probably less weight.
