Jason ... you did really, really well. It won't be long, if you embrace Jiu Jitsu - and you'll be right up there. You have the right attitude and a refreshingly authentic approach to training. I've been coaching elite operators and athletes for 35 years now (with a BJJ focus) - I can predict with conviction, that you will do very well. You need to construct a 'wrestle up-based guard game' - getting to the legs from 1/2 guard, butterfly guard, X-guard etc - and a pressure-cradle-based passing game. Focus on the head/arm triangle family of chokes (darce, marce, anaconda and kata gatame) - and kimura series. Plus - there's room for your Winn Dixie - in Jiu Jitsu - convert it to a side triangle from side control and other positions - and finish it with a one-arm kimura. You'd enjoy that. Anyways, enjoy your new adventure. Best wishes from downunder. - JBW
As a wrestling fan, I think what fans would want to see is recent and retired all Americans and ncaa champs do folkstyle matches to see era’s go against era’s. There would be some insanely good matches I would want to watch. Imagine Jordan Burroughs and Nolf doing folkstyke or getting Dake in the mix from any champ coming out of college against a recent medalist? I think would be massively entertaining for the wrestling community.
@@AthletesOcean or at his CJI event throw in, for example, Gilman vs an RBY and put up some money to do a cross over event to pull in the wrestling fans who love college wrestling.
Trained under Ricardo almeida for 13 years. Had the opportunity to work with Frankie Edgar during this time period, his approach and quite frankly even my approach coming from only highschool wrestling experience was exactly how Jason describes in the beginning. Figured the best way to get into Jiu jitsu shape was learn the moves but keep the pace high 😂. Wasn’t all successful at first but it works when you figure out what you’re doing.
Nolf! Drill the colat flip into a darce choke it’s always there. The front headlock into the a neck crank or can opener or whatever they call it into the darce. An arm drag in half guard is there for a back take. Throw bys and Russian ties are good. And bull double legs only or you get in a bad spot. I’ll never get to your level your the man but wrestling 15 years then 10 of jiu jitsu these blended well for me in the cross over. Good luck in jiu jitsu hopefully they pay better than USA wrestling
So, if you're not going for gold in the Olympics because it would be your pride, then what have you been doing for the past 5 years? What changed? Why has your long-held olympic dream suddenly become a prideful pursuit?
Thank you Jason for everything you have given to us on the mats!! You are definitely one , if not the most exciting wrestlers to watch. Just the way you do it and the mindset and dominance. You're gonna be an amazing coach! And be a killer in whatever you decide to do in the future. Thank you from all your fans in Utah !!
So excited to see you compete in Bjj. I do both Bjj and freestyle wrestling and always wondered how a world class wrestler would perform in Bjj. Nicky road just won cji and is arguably one of the best in the world and is only a d3 collage wrestler
