Hi Kirsten. I watched your first video when I was 1/2 way through TMS. I’ll have completed 35 sessions this week. I see a LOT of parallels between our experiences with treatment. My presentation before, mid, and on completion of treatment was very similar to yours. This treatment has taken me from severe, uncontrollable depression… to feeling like my old self again. I think a good measure that something is working comes from other people’s observations of you. I’ve had a lot of friends and family, many of whom had no idea I’ve been in treatment, all commented that there’s a massive difference in me. Seeing that you’re still feeling good 5 months on is really encouraging. Thank you for sharing - I’ll pay it forward and post a video this week detailing my experiences too.

I’m so so happy for you! I never went back into severe depression but in the last 3 years got a little depressed and had TMS two more times. Right now it’s been like, a year and a half since I last had it and I’m all good. Again, so happy for you 🥹

@@HookerTheWriter that’s awesome. I’m about to go through it a 2nd time. Maintenance plan they call it. I think I need it… also had a SGB. But I didn’t feel any difference with that.

This short video is SO important. I started TMS today. "What do you want your life to be aside from not being depressed." SO important. Also, your stress on taking control, taking responsibility by developing good life habits moving forward. Great job!

I watched your first video, and I have been looking for an update to know your progress. I'm happy to know that it's still working for you. I came to your channel because I'd been looking for dTMS for depression, I have chronic depression and planning to take TMS. We don't have here dTMS but normal TMS (rTMS). Finally, the way of your talking really touched my heart and that's another reason why I've been waiting for another video. I hope all the best for you!

May Someday thank you for sharing! From what I understand, rtms works equally as well as dtms, so I hope you’re not too disappointed about getting rtms. The statistics are comforting. It’s probably going to work! I’m excited for you! Come back later and let me know how it’s going.

Very courageous and helpful videos, can you tell me on a scale of 1-10 how bad your anxiety was prior to TMS and post TMS? Did you have problems wanting to get out of your house, traveling, going to social events etc b/c of your depression/anxiety? If so how about now.....your part about actually making a cake for your friend who had a baby is huge.....b/c what you also said about battling depression everyday became a full time job to get through the day so its hard to do things for others like that, that was huge and I can't imagine how good that made you feel. I don't know you but am extremely happy for you and appreciate you providing hope.Thank you very much

Sorry I didn't reply to this sooner. My anxiety was like, a 9 I guess. I was certain that our country was going to have a civil war, I was constantly worried that some crazy impulse in me would take hold and I would crash my car on purpose or something like that. I was in agony. And now, I'm fine! I don't worry about unreasonable things and if I do have a worry, I can handle it. I'm happy to go out and be with people. I don't have a full time job, but I could handle one.

I’m on my 17th session! How many sessions before you began to feel difference? My main issues are intrusive thoughts(I have ocd), and anxiety but those issues cause me to become depressed. I notice small changes already so I’m excited for this journey :)
@HookerTheWriter
@HookerTheWriter 5 лет назад
I *really* started to feel different after about 30 sessions, I'd say. It's so gradual, though, it's hard to say. I was marveling the other day about what a difference it has made. Before TMS, I had this nagging thought that whenever i was looking for something in my house, I was actually in someone else's house and they were about to catch me looking through their stuff. Total nonsense anxiety, but this thought was so persistent. Now- gone! I'm so happy for you! You're about to feel a whole lot better! :)

Please Kristin tell me what TMS device did you use, I happen to be in the exact same situation as you were, I have strong OCD and depression. I am doing TMS with a company called Brains Way. I just finished my 10th session, I have 26 more sessions to go. Did you use Neurostar? Please let me know, if it worked for you it may work for me since I have OCD and depression as well.

I did neurostar and it worked in combination with drugs. I think the TMS worked wonders, but the lexapro I still take is important too.

@@HookerTheWriter Kristin -- Looks like you're now about a year out from starting treatments, and, from your recent comment today, it appears you're still feeling really well, though with significant meds support. That's so great. I watched all of your reports; I feel about like you looked in your first video, but it was so amazing and awesome to see your progressively brightening eyes and sweet, beautiful smile, in the latter videos; I hope I brighten up like that again after my rTMS course. I've just finished my 10th treament (all theta-burst until today, my first conventional rTMS session, also with a short, right-side, low-intensity calming treatment). No observable positive results yet, and actually I had a really bad dip in mood (down to real hopelessness, even worse than before treatment), over the last couple days, ie Wed and Thu; feel more like recent normal today. Only antidepressant I'm taking is lamictal, but also couple other mood meds, for anxiety and brain fog. My BCBS-approved rTMS course is only 30 treatments presently, though I hear most folks get 36 or even 40+, so I plan to argue that point with BCBS. Here's my question (beyond sending a huge virtual hug to you, for how well you have looked and sounded recently): Do you have any sense about your long-term future rTMS treatment needs, to stay feeling so well, eg do you and your doc anticipate a time of needing a booster because your remission is trailing off? And, as a corollary question, are you trying to be meds-free and stay well, down the road? For background, I never had even a hint of any depression or anxiety until my mid-40s, when I finally had beaten the crap out of myself, through combined extreme work stress, poor self-care (eg quit my beloved trail-running because too busy, had undiagnosed/ untreated severe sleep apnea, etc), and, worst of all, progressively less love/ increasing isolation in my marriage, so had never had any mood meds experience. But anyway, no daily depression med I've ever tried (about 8+ of them) has EVER worked for me AT ALL (only a series of 3 ketamine infusions, which were fantastically helpful for a year+, when the effect gradually trailed off), the daily meds' side-effects are awful, and I believe my body and mind should be able to recover natural stasis and balance without any meds -- so my goal is to be well again, ie high-functioning and strong and upbeat in life, and also meds-free. That's why I wondered if meds-free is a target for you, as well as what your long view is of your requiring future rTMS to stay well. An observation from my ketamine experience: don't wait too long for that booster or whatever; I let myself get really bad off before trying rTMS now, hoping I could just rally, but life circumstances got the best of me. Best -- Todd

What part(s) of the brain did they stimulate? How did they determine that spot(s)? DLPFC?
@HookerTheWriter
@HookerTheWriter 2 года назад
I don't know what the name of the spot is, but they find it relative to a part of your brain that connects with your right thumb. They send magnetic pulses to your brain until they find the spot that causes your thumb to twitch, then they go from there. Alternately, they might take measurements of your head to find the right place. That's all I know.

Is there a way to treat Maladaptive Daydreaming without rTMS?
@HookerTheWriter
@HookerTheWriter 4 года назад
The Invincible Hand you can treat it with a class of drugs called “antipsychotics” - its an off-label use. I tried one and it worked immediately but made me hungry all the time so I stopped taking it. You could also look up some guided meditations on RU-vid for letting go of thoughts. I find those helpful when I’m obsessing over something. Also, hypnotherapy.
