It was a long video, but I enjoyed it. I have the 1925 with the 7308, and the cylinders are leaking and need to be redone. My friends told me not to try it because I need all kinds of special tools. This video is going to save me a lot of money. I did buy a set of those cheap seal install / bender tools so I won't have to cuss. McMaster order has been placed. Thanks so much for the video!
Thanks Pat. Yeah, I really did not need any special tools. Just common sense. I remember back in high school, I needed to rebuild the C6 transmission in my Ford pickup. I had the Ford shop manuals, and they listed a number of special tools that you needed. I bought a kit from Summit and took it apart. Aside from using sockets to drive in oil seals, I think I need a pair of C-clamps to compress the clutch packs. That was it. Never be afraid to fix something. Glad you liked the video. ---Doozer
My seal looked just like yours, Trashed. This video made it easy, had it done in about 3 hours. The part number you list for the gland nut O ring is incorrect, (Too big) I resued the old one with no issues.
Thanks Brian, Yes they truly are stairs to nowhere. I bought the house off the bank because the guy who built it ran out of money. I was thinking of building a PT wood deck over it, and making it all one level. (and metal storage underneath !)
I have just found your channel. I wish we had a McMaster Carr here in the UK. Thanks for the details on the seal replacment, it was very helpful as we need to do the same on one of the cylinders on our backhoe
At Reynolds we made a tapered cone (aluminum) to slip over the stud, and it would ease the seal ID out to pass over the edge of the rod. This was for when you couldn't put a shallow chamfer on the rod itself.
Where did you find the serial number on the cylinder? I have the 7308 and I can't find the serial number on the cylinder anywhere. Thank you for your help
I am fixing to rebuild my lift cylinder 1920 ford tractor loader #7108 I believe is the same as yours. Do you know if they are? Also did you not replace the bearing? Thank you for the video
No idea of different models. My glide rings were fine. I can't see them ever wearing unless something is bent. If you need new ones, just cut a strip of UHMW-PE and roll it up. --Doozer
Messick's sells the seal kits for the 7308 loader too. My bucket cylinder is Ognibene (not Schwartz), seal kit 87311845 for $82 and my lift cylinder is Ognibene (not Schwartz) seal kit 87311846 for $78. You couldn't remember the name of your cylinder manufacturer in the video. Can you share with your viewers what was the manufacturer of your lift cylinder, so that we can benefit from the parts list that you showed? Perhaps you can add the manufacturer and the parts list to the description for your video. I don't like getting ripped off on parts. I assume that your rebuild was a success with those part numbers...still no leaks?
No leaks, rebuild was a success. The seals from McMaster Carr were for the Ognibene lift frame cylinders. Maybe that was not clear. 6:08 is the time index for the parts list.
