The 4-3-3 is one of the most common formations, with a central midfield trio operating ahead of the four man back line, and underneath a front three.
The 4-4-2 diamond benefits from the strong central midfield presence ahead of the back line of four, with two centre forwards high in attack.
This video analyses how the 4-3-3 operates when up against a 4-4-2 diamond, & some suggested patterns, movements, & rotations in both the attacking and defending phases.

5:34 what happens if 7 and 8 move wide? 7:48 what happens if the number 6 plays long ball to 9 or 10?

I always found that the 433 I’m doesn’t really provide as much wide defensive cover as people say, your wide forwards are either looking to get in the box or spread the line. None of these are defensive positions. I find that although you give wide space in the midfield in the 442 diamond, your two more central mid are more likely to move in wider to create space offensively and will be in the half spaces if a turn over occurs.
