And now that Cloud Retainer has a human disguise to travel around as, the probability for them to actually meet has become quite high. I mean i'm quite certain she inquired why Guoba would need to borrow one of her gardening tools and make it turn into a beetle.
Small potential correction, they killed the previous incarnation of the Water Sovereign rather than Neuvillete himself since he’s considered his own individual that didn’t personally live through the events from many years ago.
It's interesting seeing these comments since I know you are correct, but then I felt it was obvious that Ashikai knows this (playing a clip of Neuvo while saying it) and said it for simplicity lol.
Fun Fact: In the Leroy Quest, if u choose to protect Benoit he actually escapes for a while and is implied to be killed by Athos instead of being taken back to his house and killed by Autumn & Athos there!
@iexiste1188 if you let him escape, the last quest you talk with the grandkid and she reveals Autumn implied he passed away. During the confrontation scene Athos says he won't let benoit get away with his behaviour so its implied he killed him rather than Autumn who forgave him.
@@keqingsimp2174 it will spoil the story for many people since they have not explored Chenyu Vale yet but you can see the reference Ashikai made with bloodborne get directly hinted by Guhua in his scriptures and sword
Give me that Arataki Itto and Xianyun/Cloud Retainer interaction. Absolutely that's just humor incarnate. Literally all I'm picturing is Tigress and Po from Kung Fu Panda. In this particular instance. Itto is Po a Youkai from Inazuma who wants to forge his own destiny. Xianyun, skeptical of a Youkai in a foreign land.
My guess/theory is that Liben talking about stars might have to do with Natlan's ancient civilization (their "Remuria") which is probably gonna be based on Mayan civilization. And the Mayans are known as the people who "figured out the stars". But I will take falling into the Abyss as well :D
It took until the wanderer archon quests for me to realize this but man its so cool to have it slowly dawn on me that Genshin is a story about stories. What we tell others, what we tell ourselves, what we tell the world, what we see in others, what we hope for. Its so beautifully executed. And realizing that has made it so fun to look back on older quests and change my perspective towards incoming ones. Its made playing the game so much more fun and interesting! Your vids and recaps always fill in some gaps for me too, or bring up things i didnt quite notice. Its so fun 😊
About Natlan, there is a NPC at the loyer part of the Lumidouce Harbor that is looking for a gift to offer his NATLAN girl. What is intersesting is that he mentions that there are multiple tribes in Natlan, and that he doesn't know what customs to follow. Also, it got me thinking, if a merchant/sailor can go there, why can't people from Natlan live (we have seen none of them since the beginning). So here is my theory, maybe they cannot leave because of a sort of conscription... Because assuming there is a never ending war there, people who were born there could be forced to stay. Or it could be just humiliating to these people to leave, since it could be seen as desertion. Anyways, we have so little on Natlan that every bit is exciting!
I really like the parallels between the film festival event and the Leroy quest. It further takes that concept of justice being different for different people, and shows an alternative to the event’s conclusion. Also, I was writing this comment, I got to the part where you talked about that. Always love the credits additions.
I really enjoyed Leroy paralleling the film festival event quest cause it really does highlight the themes of justice they are exploring and the thin line between "Justice" and "Revenge". It also showed where the justice system fails abuse victims like Autumn by having her sent to prison for killing one of her abusers. I think that's pretty important context for why killing Leroy was the "just" choice and not just turning him in when the system already failed Autumn repeatedly.
i was so freaking happy with the "moral" of this quest, because it really highlighted how a healthy relationship with both fiction and reality is supposed to work. the past several years have been rife with so much discourse about how stories should be moral lessons, how you're a bad person for consuming "toxic" or "problematic" media, and how we should be policing each other on what we create and consume. this happens in every single fandom and always ends with a lot of people hurting each other. to have a popular piece of media like genshin just outright say "hey fiction is fiction, you're allowed to enjoy it so long as you keep it separate from reality" is so heartening.
I think not being able to tell the difference between irl and fiction is a mental illness, the fact a game is pointing it out makes it even worse. And itsnot even the first time as there is that sign in Mond.
@@Infelious I think definitely, depending on how bad it is, it could be considered a mental illness (or at least a deficiency) because that would mean you actually think stories are real. But, tbh...I think it's more so a lack of education. There aren't enough actual lessons about life getting taught through literature or other media anymore. Kids are forced to just consume something so that they can pass a test and then they don't care about it ever again. I'm a millennial so I think my generation was the beginning of this and it's only gotten worse over the years. However, I was very lucky and had a few good teachers that were able to teach me about the meaning of a story that they wanted to teach about..not just the events that happened in the story. And I also learned how important fiction is for you to determine your own set of values and that even if you want to experience something that is the opposite of how you portray yourself irl, fiction is a way of exploring that in a safe way that doesn't hurt anyone. This is why it constantly annoys me when people try and "call out" problematic fiction because you are supposed to learn something from it, not see it as something that is horrible just for the sake of being horrible. Sure, there are those types of stories out there, but the issue is that there are lots of people who can't even tell the difference anymore, and that is sad. All the nuance is lost because some people never even learned how to find the nuance in something. 😭
The idea of our lovable himbo becoming a mechanical genius is just so entertaining. 🤣 It's also funny to think that the dragon king is a traveling merchant who wears purple crocs. It would make sense that the adepti and yokai are related in some way, I believe that there are at least a few yokai that have roots in Chinese mythology. There's even a famous yokai called Tamamo-no-Mae that traveled from China, to India then ended up in Japan where she was eventually killed and became a stone that leaked poison before a priest helped her find peace.
If you have xianyun and read her vision story and about vision you will find the answer And also chenyu vale world quest about fujin talk about adepti are
It’s a pity that you didn’t mention the “rainbow rose ideals” (or some similar name for their society, I’m playing in a different language). related to quest items "treasure maps". 8 map pieces mention about 8 characters and their stories - we somehow met or heard them through: [1] small quests here and there (Autumn/Athos/Rogue); [2] local legends (Rocky Avildsen/Liam); [3] npc (blind Freeman); [4] bond with other characters (parents of Penny, girl from "Free Verse" quest: Barrow/Parker). It’s interesting that they are very strongly connected with the search for justice. fits very well with the main event theme of 4.3 game version.
@@CreatrixTiara Oh, I deeply apologize to the Author - the bad habit kicked in (same as watching movie in cinema). Now I see that this is still "Lorebits part" - I'll try to be more patient and attentive next time Thanks for pointing this out!)
On the topic of the Leroy quest, there are a series of hidden treasures and maps in fontaine that all have different names attached. Two are Athos and Autumn, and the messages that tie those together give a lot more context for Autumn's escape from meropide
13:06 This really reminds me of when I had to read Slaughterhouse 5 for a school project. During the reading, I got super angry and my project about it basically turned into a rant about why his apathy and passive nature were painful to read and hard to sympathize with. It was only after I struggled with depression and apathy myself that I could understand why he did(and didn’t) do the things he did in the book. It is so tempting to let things happen as they happen but I can’t do that because of the connections I’ve made throughout my time on this planet, but I can experience what that would be like through the protagonist of this book. I imagine if I read it again I would come to totally different conclusions than I did when I failed to understand what the book was about the first time (because that is what this version of me needs from this reading of it).
Where the heck did I miss all the content about Egeria being locked and the locknights? That first part of the video was like getting information about a game I'm not playing😂
31:36 I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU DIDN'T MENTION THE TRAILBLAZING EASTER EGG?? Visiting every star them self and trailblazing a new path??? extremely obvious honkai star rail reference?? ?
I like the way you describe the game´s lore a lot, the Poisson jpegs always crack me up, thank you and your editor(s) for making these videos, they are amazing
Just wanna say thank you for this recap! I have problems recalling info after I've played it, so recap videos like this help me sort things out and actually make the game more enjoyable. :D
I could listen to ashi talk about literally anything, literally forever. Sometimes i stop understanding the words shes saying as the sounds she's making turn into a concerto. Absolute pillar of this community .
I love your analysis about the themes of quests. The theme for identity in Narzissennkreuz quest and the idea of justice in this one, amazingly explained.
Hey, I'm back as I just had a thought that ties into your section regarding Liben. In regards to your theory that what Liben say may be foreshadowing to where we are heading next in the 5.x patchline, I think you may be correct, but I'm thinking what if this deep underground region we'll go to next is a part of Natlan because Natlan has both a overworld portion and an underground portion that's the same size as the overworld in terms of exploration, and we have to go through at least part of this underground to get to Natlan. Basically, they pull a Tears of the Kingdom in terms of open world exploration. lol After commenting on another Genshin lore video and remembering how the Mare Jivari is suppose to be this dark and desolate place where "no wind blows through", I came to the realization that if the developers want to develop an open-world area where there is an overworld and an underground in equal size, then Natlan might be their best bet to try building such a region (especially since the "underworld" is a common idea in religion/mythology within Mesoamerican cultures from my understanding). In any case, we'll see what ends up happening once 5.x comes around. But I wouldn't be surprise that, at the very least, they'll push underground exploration even further with Natlan.
Alice will probably be the Elysia expy if we do get more expys (aside from Bronya, Himeko and Seele). Although I do suspect some of the witches and shades could be expys.
I NEED to see itto interact with the cloud retainer trio. Shes gonna be so fed up with him being itto but also enjoys it in the afterthought. Ganyu will probably be somewhat friends with itto and they get along, maybe something about horns too. Shenhe is probably gonna be chained up by cloud retainer so she doesn't turn itto into oni purée and itto being the idiot that he is is definitely going to keep provoking shenhe
Ashikai you are my hero, genshin's story presentation can be very unenjoyable to follow sometimes so thanks for filling in all the lore gaps I skip LOL
I also notice that Itto is really fond of Yanfei, and Yanfei has now shown an interest in Bettle fighting. I swear those two gonna end up together after he trains with Cloud Retainer
I thought that the whole "calling her his saviour and being constantly grateful" thing was from the whole thing with the Chasm? Like, the whole reason he and Shinobu were involved in that thing with the Yaksha and the time displacement was that she'd helped them when they arrived in Liyue and then Itto insisted on following her to repay her for it Isn't the way he behaved in the beetle event just a continuity thing?
Your throw away comment about wanting goddess of flowers to be elysia really threw me. I’m actually playing through hi3 right now specifically for genshin lore (I blame you btw) and I’ve become throughly convinced that Alice is going to end up being the Elysia espy (if there is one) Also I made it to the end of the video🙃
Same I started HI3 I think around Sumeru while there was a gap in content. And I always thought Alice would be an Elysia expy, the thought isn't even uncommon with fans. So ut has to be a vibe not just the elf ears.
Ngl, I love these recaps bc when i burn out on a phase of the archon quest and then the whole game, and need to take a break, i can get caught up on all the fun little details of the world quests and the such. I logged in to fight the local legends when i saw tiktoks about them, and had been quite curious about if they had story, so it’s nice to hear their backgrounds summarized quickly
About the bit with Illuminated Beasts and Youkai: Yae is referred to as 仙狐 in the Japanese script in places, where the first character is the same as Adepti (仙人) and Illuminated Beast (仙獣). Obviously the caveat exists that the Chinese script is more important here which I haven't looked at to see if it uses the same term to refer to her, but I wouldn't be surprised if it did. And the use isn't exactly confirmation either, but I've always taken it as suggesting a connection is there.
Yes Chevrouse promotes correct justice and then Wriothesly comes along and says "I don't know everyone happens to get a copy of the newspaper with it exposing a certain someone's missdeeds. I suppose then, a certain someone may soon find himself the most unlucky person in the Fortress of Meropide. While another two people will soon be hailed as heroes." Paired with his SQ line "When the Duke wants someone gone he doesn't need a reason" everyone knows what may or may not happen next there. Another thing about this is that traveler when asked what would they do in this situation they give 2,options one is to uphold justice while in the other they're fine with killing someone if they think it's right.
Navia is also the name of a pre-celtic river and fecundity goddess, most of the references to this goddess have been found around the northwest of Spain, and sometimes around the UK too
something to note is that Liben's design is somewhat similar to the happy mask salesman from LoZ: Ocarina of time and Majora's Mask, and if I am not mistaken isnt Majora's mask made from the remains of a dragon?
I don't know, I would say their role is similar but appearance wise, I don't see it. Liben is a big muscle guy with a backpack, the best moustache this side of teyvat. The mask salesman (from what I remember) is an old hunched over man who carries a backpack. I see where you're coming from and I like the idea but idk, it doesn't quite work for me. That being said though it's been a while since I've played an LoZ with the mask salesman so I could be wrong
@@bumblebees4242 No you're right. That being said, personally I'd weigh in on if they ever wanted to do some crackpot theory thing with Liben, his current design is the way to do it. Mask Salesman's whole thing is about being extremely seedy and sus, which would q in people that there's something more that meets the eye if they chose to do something similar with Liben, even if we never learned what's really going on with HMS beyond him collecting masks to sell and being the owner of Majora's Mask before Skull Kid yoinked it from him. But yeah, to hammer my point in, in contrast Liben's design is arguably one of the most approachable and welcoming John Doe kind of guy Genshin has, which would be a good way to hide any possible nefarious character as people can easily fall into his tempo and get duped by his facade of good vibes because who would think the fun looking average hippie guy would be up to something? Anyhow as for design similarities, yeah I'd say they don't really have much in common. At most their similarities go so far as being travelers and lugging around a backpack full of various goods, baubles, and other odds and ends and peculiar trinkets. In other words, you can say they have about as much in common as to BoTW Beedle, and personally, I'd put Liben more closer to the Beedle end of the spectrum than HMS.
I agree with this, maybe its just the vibe of all the colourful stuff he has and we are reading into it. But you'd think theres something more to Liben than giving us free premos and lore, and why is he always ahead of where we are going?
Thanks for the recap! Your comment about Leroy being the "third musketeer," and his quest being a permanent version of the film festival made me wonder if Hoyoverse might start to use world quests as mini-permanent versions of event-exclusive quests. For instance, you could argue that the Sorush event awhile back has a lot of similarities to the various quests around the Realm of Farakhkert. idk how much actual precedent there is, but it would be a great solution to releasing major story revelations in limited-time events (cough cough Unreconciled Stars) also the Liben-Nibelung theory is hilarious
I like to speed run my way through quests. But I am also incredibly invested in the lore. So I'm just fully dependent on your videos. They are my favourite method of acquiring information. XD
The structure of inter connected questlines which fontaine has is very similar to Narita's who is author of Baccano and durarara whuch also has interconnected plotlines which start disconnected at first but all of them connect in the end... its super interesting and very satisfying...
Ya know, the theming of justice in the three story quests kinda reminds me of the philosophies of Justice that the various Marines have in One Piece, not sure that there’s any connection especially considering the type of story One Piece is but I’m just simply throwing this one out. Also the Film Festival quest gave me Silver Case Vibes.
You should have put that last bit of data on its own segment! It is pretty interesting, also, does it mean that "Rouge" it just an alias for Autumn? I've played and read all of these quests and events, but I wasn't able to make the connnections. With this and the Narzissenkreuz quest line, I really love the world building of making separate quests linked by lore. Plus the whole throwback to the Diona "Blessing" that most people saw just as a funny random characteristic to a link to Fontaine lore was wild. Fontaine is pretty dope in all these.
now i kinda wanna not go to natlan next cause that would be such a neat twist to have this whole new place and remember that khaenriah didn’t actually have a chapter number and advfbjfcn imagine how cool the story would be especially since paimon said in sumeru “we’d better go to natlan right away!” almost hinting it’ll take longer
It's been half a year. and I still come here and rewatch the "Why would I know how money works? I'm a dragon!" part, because your delivery just sparks joy.
I just finished the Leroy quest today, and when i saw the name Penny i literally did the DiCaprio pointing meme like "hey wait a minute" So thank you for all the context about the treasure map stuff, that helped tie that all up so neatly
Finally finished Leroy and can watch this video; very curious to hear your explination of the end of that one. after 21:50 - I actually wasnt sure if he did die in the end, it seemed probable, but if your video included a bit about finding him in meropede (further under ground than fleuv cendre) I wouldnt have been suprised. But wasnt going to spend my day searching myself xD @30:00 IM STOKED YOU THOUGHT THIS TOO! I totally forgot about that, but i was like "huh, maybe were getting sidequested and this is foreshadowing" when it happened and why did you save the credits lore bombs for the end, those connections blew my mind xD
I would certainly love it if the beetle event is like foreshadowing to a second story quest for Itto, where he develops a relationship and learns from the Adepti, especially since I can imagine conversations between Itto and Cloud Retainer to be gold. lol But we'll see what ends up happening. And yeah, I also agree that the message about stories in the film festival event is pretty important nowadays, especially when considering the Genshin fandom in specific right now. Places like twitter is probably still going to be cesspools in terms of discussions on the story, however, considering that social media are built to highlight and fester negative discourse. Still, I'm glad that they explored the importance of romanticism in fiction during the event when many pockets of societies, communities, and some academic fields have developed to think the opposite for a long while.
from your video ive learned smth abt my ancestors religion, navia being word for slavic dead realm and dead water or smth like that like you said, bery intressting! i love navia now even more
This beetle battle event's story really reminded me of some generic shonen anime story and I kinda liked it. The very strong final opponent being way stronger than he thought. the whole "beetle operating a mechanical beetle", or in other words, a beetle mecha, Itto wanting cloud retainer to train him, a training arc if you will. I hope it's not just me who sees the connections here. Also yeah the film festival was amazing, I already really liked Chevy and this event made me like her even more. That cutscene was so good.
Honestly, when you started explaining the lore ties between fontainian world quests" characters i got lost immediately but i like to listen to you explaining stuff
I’ve been revisiting lore areas I haven’t fully explored, and I finally got the Encore achievement for going back to the throne room from the Golden Slumber Quest, and it was there that I noticed something; the statue behind the throne would presumably depict King Deshret, right? And it had the typical Anubis-like face some other statues had, but this one had ram horns. And that was odd to me, cuz Nilou’s costume depicting The Goddess of Flowers also has horns, just different ones, maybe more cow-shaped than ram. So did Deshret and The Goddess of Flowers both have horns? While the third god in their friend group, Rukkhadevata, did not? Just… it’s weird, right?
Could you maybe do a lore video around the hydro hypostasis? There is this place in Fontaine that looks like it was supposed to be there (but isn't). It's in Inazuma, which begs the question why? Not just for the hydro cube, but every cube. Why are they not in the nation identical to their element. Except for Anemo and Geo (The Archons of those regions are said to be the only "original" ones) Also there is always this ground with all these symbols at every hypostasis, but not only at the hypostasis. Most notably that one place in Fontaine I mentioned and I think there was one in Sumeru. I might have said some bull poop now, but I'd still be super excited if you made a video about the hypostasises (what's the plural lol). ESPECIALLY hydro and pyro since those two have weird description.
Yes, I also realised the Leroy quest intertwined with Penny's and those treasures from legends. Thank you for making the connections more clear thou. I wasn't sure if all of this meant Penny was also Autumn's daughter or something or how she got her dog and bla. So thank you for lifting my confusion. XD
A Nokron esq area would be so cool actually. They could do a cool reference to er with going down there for the first time being a 2 minute elevator ride.
So in the Leroy Benoit quest, I actually chose to protect Leroy. turned out Athos had him assassinated on the cliffs anyway, and Autumn and Athos never showed up in the final scene. You just talk a bit with Molli. It feels very, VERY unfulfilling because I wanted to basically BE the Chevreuse of this situation, but you are PHYSICALLY UNABLE to alter Leroy's fate. It really left a sour taste in my mouth.
The beetle event surprised me a lot with how...consistent it was? Like, it feels like before this events were always treated as non-canon and therefore were forgotten about in terms of being brought up again whether in the main story or other events - the writers just go forward assuming players havent experienced any of the time limited content. This proves that thats changeing and theres at least some places where theyre willing to build upon previous limited content, which im really happy about! The closest thing we had before was the vague acknowledgement that the Golden Apple Archipelago had been introduced by Alice before in the second summer, but it didnt benefit the story in any way? Here though, the second beetle event pulls from so much of whats come before, both time limited and not, and it makes the whole thing feel so gratifying for remembering stuff! The world felt connected
Great recap, can't wait for the Chenyu Vale recap, its not too plot heavy but its definitely revealed some great stuff like a certain snakes real identity.
A great summary, I had to mostly miss 4.3 so really appreciate it! btw 22:17 is that the goron track from BOTW I hear in the background?!? 😂 That's so Itto (I did get that far ;D)
after u mentioned the navia pineapple parallels, i realized that it seems in line with her mother's name being clementine so naturally i decided to check whether callas had a similar parallel too- only to find nothing other than some poisonous plants named calla biology is my least favorite school subject so i gave up quickly, but im still throwing this idea out there! maybe someone smarter than me will make some more sense of it
so grateful for the event recap since real life got in the way, even if it wasnt lore heavy i still hate missing events. glad everyone agrees that itto as cloud retainer’s disciple would be fantastic. congrats on 200K!
@ashikai nilou has the horns because she is immitating the goddess of flowers. all over sumeru there is references to the king solomon myth. in the myth when king solomon is not on the throne a pretender takes his place. a three headed deamon. nilou actually has 3 sets of horns (small ones pointing back wards), and is her vison has a chain with a feather on it that makes a demon tale. so nilou is the fake goddess.
Way late to the party and someone's probably already pieced this together, but just in case: Just as Athos's name is a Musketeers reference, so is Autumn. She's a riff on Milady de Winter, who in the original book spent some time married to Athos as part of her backstory.
Thank you for the good video! When I heard the dumb Groose music start to play in reference to Itto, I laughed because yeah, can kinda see the similarities!
I did the Leroy quest right after the Roses and Musket event so the outcome was fresh in my mind. I chose to defend Benoit, because I agreed with what Chev had said at the end of quest, even though a part of me regrets it because he's such a jerk. That said I'm also not a huge fan of Athos who I felt was pushing for his brand of justice rather than pursuing what Autumn really wanted. Great quest causing me internal conflict.
yea 4.3 was a much needed breather for me as well, i had a bunch of quests from previous versions i was still catching up on and enjoyed the event overall. Navia not being in the event i was ok with since she had her story quest, I just reasoned to myself that maybe she was busy with dealing with things in Poisson during the time of the event i remember getting the Leroy quest and at first thinking "hmm something's up here, where is this going?" and after i finished it, i was like "well that was quite the quest i stumbled onto" :U the tidbit from Liben sure was a hmmm moment for me when he said that >.>
