I don't know if Monty checks in on these comments, but I have loved this entire series. He is the perfect host explaining the details without being pedantic and he shows true care and concern for the three students in each of the series. Truly a wonderful glimpse into the heritage that these crafts offer and a beautifully done documentary on the journey of the people participating.
Thanks for sharing your video, indeed the Mastercraft Series. It is a great set of programs. When Montage said she left her mistakes in her artwork and thought they were great as they were, I knew she wasn't going to win. Tiff with his passion, initiative, and design made him stand apart. I was happy for him. Holly is right, it will be a life changing experience. My heart went out to Holly. Second place and caring is far worse then last place and not caring. She did such a good job, and was such a sweet person. I hope she gets a good chance in the future.
Treft really has talent! Although all were lovely, Treft created a remarkable piece! Especially after only 6 weeks and a tiny breakdown. So happy for all of them!
I think that it's and important statement--which is so often illustrated in many forms of art--that mental illness is often a catalyst to the exceptional bits of creativity we hold dear.
I really enjoyed the program to see novice weavers with no experience in weaving and the final project into something that is a professionally brilliant, as a weaver myself I had been trained by my great-aunt even though I weave tartan and plaids love to learn double weave myself loom controlled or pickup. I tip my hat to all three of you who had made some beautiful and amazing pieces of art
I have just watched this for the second time in two weeks and plan to bookmark it to watch again. Thoroughly enjoyed it and all three of them, especially Holly. I thought I was a weaver until I saw this. And I loved Monty Don's narration. Brilliant.
What an excellent program this is! I will definitely be viewing the others in the series (even though my interest is primarily weaving). Thank you for posting these. (And I hope Holly has continued with weaving...what a beautiful piece that was.)
This is great. So interesting , i believe Holly and Tref are empaths. And i love the empathy Holly shows for others and their success.. They are both so talented. Montaz has really learned alot. I am i mpressed. And kudos to All .Great series.
Holly's comment at the end says what kind of person she is. She is an exceptionally classy person. She is such a credit to Britan and so many other things. I hope she is doing well today in 2018. I hope everyone who was in the show is doing well today.
Montaz should try Saori weaving where she could really express herself and there are no ‘mistakes’ also you can purchase the warp and just pop it in, then sley, much easier than a floor loom
it's unspeakably sad to see a heritage craft (a lifelong skill) being reduced to a competition. The ideal weaving community works together to help each other to learn and grow together for a much longer commitment.
I have always found it interesting how BBC selects participants for these types of programs. There is always someone who is moody, having emotional challenges, a complainer, someone whose goals are so different from the issue that is being focused on, or someone quick to cry. I've come to believe they look for this mix to make the program "more entertaining"; and gives viewers something to emotionally engage with. Normalcy would be boring, I guess?
Yeah, they know who's gonna have the depression part of the bi-polar cycle in the show, they know who's gonna be quick to cry and who is gonna have "goals so different from the issue that is being focused on". IN ADVANCE of the six weeks! Right.
I went to the Gowanus art walk yesterday, and I went into a textile place and it made me think of Holly and this show. When I first saw this show, I was completely in love with Holly.
So far basic tabby horizontal & vertical squares & checks & they've all achieved their short term goal as weavers. Among the 3 contestants, the one who pushed it a bit is Tref because he demonstrated some weft control "curve" however, still basic tabby weaving. Tref could've certainly done more if it wasn't for the short set back. The girl with the bob has potential as well & needs to buy a loom in order to demystify the mechanical process. @ Holly, concentrate & stop crying :) As a designer, you young lady is the VIP here. Your first attempt was good but wrong jacket perhaps next time, take time to draft a whole list of jacket mood-boards, visual communication, fabric selection etc.. spend time to carefully think which fabric is suitable for which jacket.
Fell completely in love with Tref and Holly and was very glad to see by the end that Momtaz had her own breakthrough. Does anyone know what the piano music playing near the end is?
The strings at the end seem to reflect the "Bittersweet Symphony" but I can't quite pick the piano line... Holly is gorgeous, outta my league and both Arachne and Athena... but I guess I empathise with Tref AND Momtaz... only human as only humans can.
Unpopular opinion time: I actually liked this the least so far, and I only haven't seen the stonemason episode. This is because the other episodes allowed for a connection with the people involved, but had a stronger focus on the crafts itself, whereas here I feel the focus is too much on the people, and let the details of the craft fall to a position of lesser importance.
