One thing I really like is to read fiction books that include something about handweaving. I'd recommend "Caramelo" by Sandra Cisneros. If you can read Spanish I think the Spanish edition is even better even though Cisneros writes in English. There are some interesting stories about Mexican rebozos "woven" into the narrative. Rebozos used to be made with silk, some were ikat dyed, and often had very eleborate macramed fringes. Mexico had its own silk industry for a while.

I live under the dilution that I can speak Spanish, because it’s so similar to French. Truth is even my French is pretty rusty these days, not to mention that French and Spanish are most definitely NOT the same! I keep trying to learn Spanish off and on though. It would be such a valuable language to know. I will look up Caramelo. Thank you for the suggestion!

Hope you can do the rug weaver’s studio visit. Rug making is what brings me to weaving. ‘The Techniques of Rug Weaving’ by Peter Collingwood would be my recommendation as a must have tome.

I will for sure be touring his (the rug weaver) studio! His loom is a Collingwood, shaft switching loom and he studied rug weaving in Europe. His rugs are magnificent and I can't wait to visit his studio! We are in the same guild, so I see him monthly. As soon as he is available, I will be touring his studio!
