I want to thank everyone for watching this video! Never thought it would get as many views as it has. Here is a little update on the car. My GT is at 180,000 with 20,000 miles on these cams and the car still pulls strong as ever. No problems what so ever.

Hey, just wanted to say this is one of the best sounding 4.6's I've heard on RU-vid. Mine has Pretty much same Exhaust setup but carted X-pipe instead of off-road, I'm definitely going to get an off-road on whenever I can. Currently considering what type of cam would be best, with a good lope, good hp but still able to be a daily.
@TheBeastCarson94
@TheBeastCarson94 9 лет назад
XxLevegencexX I really appreciate it. The off-road x-pipe will definitely wake up the exhaust. Don't expect to sneak up on anyone with SLP's and an off-road mid pipe. They will hear you a mile away. And with stage 3 I have no problems driving it every single day. It all depends on where you have the idle set at. Mine is at 730 and sounds pretty good. Any lower and it will try to die when you come to a stop. As for power, you lose a little power under 3,500 rpm's but after that the engine really wakes up.

@TheBeastCarson94
@TheBeastCarson94 8 лет назад
I used stock timing marks. I did the complete job myself. And I also got the whole set of cams, retainers, and valve springs for 60% off because I knew someone who worked at CompCams. So to me it was worth it. Full price? Not to me. I love the sound of the cams still to this day. But the power wasn't a crazy gain. Mainly through 3,500 Rpm's to 5,000 Rpm's is where you feel the power increase. If you have anymore question, please ask.

max moore I didn't use any tools to degree it. On the stock cam gears there is a little dot on the gear that matches with a dot on the timing chain. Line those up and that's the stock timing marks. Also on the sprockets on the crank have them also. Each chain should have two links with dots on them. You match those dots up with the dots on the cam gear and crank sprocket. That's how I degreed mine.

Just a quick question. What's the difference between the stages of the cam?
@TheBeastCarson94
@TheBeastCarson94 9 лет назад
There are stages 1 through 5 from CompCams for the 4.6 engine. Stage 1 having the least amount of power and is said to be just a little different from stock. Then stage 5 is the most aggressive and with the best increase of power. But I believe after stage 3 you are gonna have to get different heads and notched pistons. I was scared that I would have PTV (Piston To Valve) contact with mine but I didn't. That was after reading everywhere that people said that it was impossible to run stage 3 cams on stock heads. They were right to a point, but all I did was install CompCam's beehive springs and I was good to go. Hopefully that answered your question.

Hey, love the sound of your mustang, and i'm about to do the same thing to mine, I have the stage 3 comp cams with a .55 lift, and the mechanic i'm talking to is saying i'm going to HAVE to notch the pistons or else i'll ruin my engine, and i'm seeing everywhere else tht i'm going to have to notch my pistons, or get TF heads and what not, is your car still running great now problems today without the notched heads?
@TheBeastCarson94
@TheBeastCarson94 8 лет назад
Nicholas Cicotte Tell your mechanic he is wrong. I have a completely stock block and pistons. I changed the cams, beehive springs, retainer, and cam bolt. That's it. Used stock timing marks on the crankshaft and cam gears. I've put 20k on these cams and have taken it 6k plenty of times. If you have any questions please ask me. I know there is a lot of debate on this subject.

That is wonderful news! I was hoping i wouldn't have to notch my pistons... I have the Beehive Springs, Retainers, 3.73 gears, 75mm TB, upper plenum, 24lb injectors, longtube headers and catted x-pipe, those should all support the cams nicely? And as well as the Cam bolts, i hear the old cam bolts aren't the right fit, Do you remember where and what cam bolts you got?
@TheBeastCarson94
@TheBeastCarson94 8 лет назад
Nicholas Cicotte Those should work great with the cams. I got the bolt from AutoZone. I do not remember exactly what size it was. But the stock cam bolt is too small for the CompCams.

Definitely putting either stage 2 or 3 shift kit in the truck, depending on if needed stall or not.

You’re just like me, buddy. Once you do one thing you get hungry for more. Eventually money will hold you back. Loving my GT led to me getting my 04 cobra. My cobra led to me buying my C6 Z06. And now I have three sports cars. 😂 To answer your question. It took me two days ONLY because I lost a valve spring retainer and had to run to a local Pull-A-Part and get another one, otherwise, I would have done it in about eight hours. After I did my cams I rebuild my 8.8 with 4.10’s. I wish I did 3.73’s though. I use mine for a lot of highway driving. Make sure you have the following: -Romeo block. That’s what I have and I have put almost 100,000 miles on these cams. If you have a Windsor block you will have pressed on cam gears and will need to buy aftermarket cam gears. And I can not guarantee you won’t have PTV contact. -CompCam’s cam, beehive springs, retainers, and a new cam bolt If you have anymore questions just let me know.

@@TheBeastCarson94 I have a Romeo block so all good there. I’m going to get a dyno tune following the install to maximize the results, but I’m not sure if I want to pay the extra for the adjustable cam gears.
