Ah, thanks for that. Now I see why Pete looked like an old man here - the way he walks back on the field after the ball kid played, head a little low, balding patch.. sure not _just_ past his hey days.
@@saicharan3731 i don't know.. maybe because u can't go to the future and read the title of a RU-vid video that hasn't been made yet, while you're commentating 😂
Yeah I was thinking the same thing but it was just an exhibition match with a relaxed atmosphere. Still unbelievable what Roger did. Amazing really. That last ace was on 2nd serve !
It's quite funny, when Sampras thinks he's redundant there, when the stats say, he has scored 9 aces to that moment, while these 4 took Roger to number 5 :D
I remember in the '95 Wimbledon Final, Sampras was serving like this against Becker, and Becker just almost conceded waving his racket in front of his face as if to say "I might as well just aim it randomly and hope for the best"! Looks like Sampras is experiencing a taste of his own medicine here! LOL
I was playing a casual tournament and hit a 2nd serve ace against my opponent. He laughed at me and told me it was a low percentage shot and I was dumb to even try it. I took the challenge and went for it the whole match with great results.
That really bad sportsmanship, if you served an ace on the second serve I would be surprised and praise lol (I think I'm too nice and praise to much when playing)
I've had similar experience but with my backhand. Back when I played--I quit because I wanted to focus on my studies--it would make some opponents tilt because it was my strong suit, and I often crossed balls at a very sharp degree. If something works just use it in your favour.
@@Dunkingsonn Agreed, if I return a ball as strong as I can it seems to always drive towards their feet/lowerbody at warpspeed. Seems unsportsman's like but if I had to hit it back hard it's because it's a challenging point!
This year, I served 5 aces in a row to come from behind and win my service game. This video was fun to watch! Federer and Sampras are my two favorite players, all time!
@@luiscaetano6184 hahah no issue with that. Records are there to be broken. Wouldn't say I'm a fan of Djoko but he's earned his place as the best ever.
@@Ansprechen_und_Aufklären_1 A lot can change in 15 years... I can't believe that the Internet is old enough to have comments who still list Sampras has the GOAT.
maybe i'm a biased american but i would take sampras prime any day of the week. i think nadal, federer, djokovic have benefitted from watered down talent in tennis worldwide.
@@AD-oy8nm they are all great but djokovic is gonna be the best statistically speaking. he right up there with fed and nadal with grand slams. he is in his prime and fed and nadal are on their way down the hill. but yeah sampras was a machine in his prime...but these new guys are on a differ level.
Pretty obvious to anybody who play tennis that Pete let those 2 2nd serve aces go on purpose. He already had 9 aces in that first set and Roger only had one . So Pete let go some. SAMPRAS in his prime in 90s with his serve and volley fast always attacking play on those fast courts of 90s was a joy to watch .The best ever . But there were others serve and volley hitters ,not just him. His last tournament b4 he retired was US OPEN 2002 . And guess what he won it all. In the final with another veteran Andre Agassi.. Next year veteran Agassi won Australian open. God tennis these days is sooo slow and boring . Cant even stand to watch it. Baseline marathon .
The two best players of all time... Both class, both complete, both having good serves, wonderfull one hand backhands and efficent moves, both genius... Fedderer 1st and Sampras 2nd best players forever.
The margins between top players are small. Becker could serve 135 -141 mph at his peak but dropped to 90-100 mph a few years after retiring (could still manage 130 mph in 2002-2003) and said it was due to lack of practice/ training.
@@seveglider8406 that’s your opinion. Here’s a fact. Sampras outclassed his generation and it wasn’t even close! Can you say that about Federer? I love Fed and all he brought to the game but no one dominated their generation like Pistol Pete did.
@@dbish2049 Here are facts You may have overlooked. Federer played in an era where 3 players have won 20 Major tiles each. Sampras won only 14 major titles and he played in an era when none of his peers won 20 major titles. If Sampras couldn't win 20 major titles in his era, it stands to reason he would not have won 20 majors playing in Federer's era! Chances are he would not have even won 14 major titles playing in Federer's era. Sampras was a great player. However, he wasn't even an average player on clay! I believe if Sampras played Federer, Djokovic and Nadal 10 best of 5 set matches on every surface the results would be this. Against Federer on Grass they're even, On hard courts, Federer wins 6 times, On clay, Federer wins 10 times. Against Djokovic. On grass Sampras wins 6 times, on hard courts, Djokovic wins 6 times, on clay Djokovic wins 10 times. Against Nadal, on grass Sampras wins 10 times, on hard courts, Sampras wins 6 maybe 7 times, On Clay, Nadal wins 10 times and doesn't even lose 1 set.
yeah, and they have high respect for each other, actually when Roger finally surpassed Pete's record as the longer Number 1 in the world he said he always had Pete as his idol!
actually when he was on tour, to call sampras humourous was funny in itself. he was so tense. it's only now in retirement that he's real funny side is showing! and i'm glad it is.
Rogers plays like an artist; Pete plays like a swashbuckler. It is more fun to watch the swashbuckler. Also, Edberg and Rafter rock; maybe the two coolest dudes to ever play tennis. Slow twist serves followed by the best volleys ever.
Pete didn't try to return some of those serves. He knew he wasn't going to put pressure on Federer without really good returns, so he just let them go and focused on his own serve instead.
Pete said Goran had the most difficult serve to return. Sounds correct as Goran had a unique motion. While different, Goran's serve was the Roscoe Tanner serve of his time. Also, forgot to include Todd Martin who competed against Pete. Federer's competition was way below Pete's - no serve and volleyers. Roger should thank the good Lord that didn't have to face s & v players such as Rafter, Pete, Edberg, Becker, Krajicek, Goran and Stich.
Sampras is my all time fav!!! Federer has been fun to watch over the years, without Pete being around . . . just wish he could comeback to the U.S. Open for one more of those amazing jump smashes. :)
great matches, very close, sampras even won one of three I think and federer was at his peak, by the third one it seemed sampras had federer figured out
One of them did. Look up Jeff Demps, running back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He ran as an alternate leg for the 4x100m that won the silver medal at the London Olympics. He has a PR of 9.96 in the 100m.
Oh I remember this match. Sampras was so dominant in his serve that Roger didn't even get a break point the whole match. It's a straight sets one-break routine win for Sampras just like in his prime days...
The commentators are talking about cricket... the camera view changes at the worst possible moment during Federer's serve... Just a very annoying shambles of a coverage.
