And you shouldn’t trust them. I live in Phoenix and there are signs put up on popular corners that say “Do not give money to these people. If you want to help them, donate money to the proper organizations”. I once gave $5 to a man saying his wife was in the hospital. A few minutes later, I saw him in a store buying a bottle of liquor with my $5!!! Never again!

Please tell me that was a typo when you stated "I understand that not all are scams". Because if you mean that, then you are absolutely part of the problem. They are all scams. I live and work in the Latino community all my life, hundreds of friends over 55 years. If there is a death, everyone pitches in and they come up with what is needed so that there is a funeral. all these street side fund raisers are bored gang bangers who just want to grab some quick cash.

I remember the very first time someone walked up to me with one of these boards telling me their little sister had died. It was 15 years ago and even then I knew it was a scam, but ppl were not doing it often. A lot of years passed before I ever saw someone do it again. After that, I started to see it on a monthly basis. Also the women that claim to have 3 kids, no job, no food and no money...and when I ask them where those 3 kids are, they walk away. I filmed a lady walking down the street to her car after begging for money all day (a 2021 chrysler)

I once witnessed a cop disburse some pan handlers at a busy intersection. My first thought was, oh man that sucks for those people. Then I observed one of the pan handlers walk to a McDonald's parking lot nearby and throw his cardboard sign in the backseat of a brand new SUV and drive off.

This happened to us, my father in law saw a man asking outside Home Depot store for his daughter. My father in law gave him money. Apparently few months later see the same guy asking for money at another city with the same person and my father in law was mad.

I would say not 'most likely'. We are seeing news stories like these BECAUSE they have been caught and stopped. I would say use your head. If you see the same guy with a sign saying hes trying to get $5 for a bus ticket to denver for 3 months then he's probably a scammer. If its someone youve never met and they look distressed then help. Also, wtf does it matter if they are scammers or not? Is that $1 you gave away really breaking you because it didnt go to someone YOU deem worthy of it? Do you also throw change at the homeless and make them pick up pennies off the street? I sure hope not. Its a couple of bucks that youll make back at your job in 10 minutes and you feel good because you think youve helped. Good feels for a dollar? So terrible!

I've lost tons of change to vending machines & public washing machines that never gave me my money back. It's the same thing with donations. The sad part is you can't even forgive forgive them for this type of behavior. Even if they went to jail there's no justifying any of this shit. I do honestly hope that they get their asses beat in jail for this especially the one smiling. I had someone close to me pass away that only lived for 2 years. Here in my county what your referring to is what's known as a DA reject and that will most likely be due to lack of evidence or the officer involved not presenting his findings by not showing up to court despite it all being in the report from that initial investigation. The DA of today should be held accountable each month crime increases in fact let their very positions they hold be on the line for that matter. 😤

This funeral scam happens a lot in Pasadena at the intersection of Washington and Lake. I think I saw photos of the same girl who died twice on their signs.

If the Fresno (CA) police would take the time to do this they would find that 90% of those collecting for a "funeral" are faking it. I see the same group time after time, weeks apart collecting for the same kid.

Seemingly homeless people begging and then getting into a car and driving to a nice home? Also fraud and LAPD busts hundreds per year. Yeah, it is breaking the law.

Here in Tucson AZ I see that a lot. At different intersections, foreign people that look like gypsies holdings signs with pictures and names of children, asking for donations for funerals. Sometimes they just change the name, but use the same picture. And they are very aggressive; they come to your car window expecting for you to give them money

On my days off I would like to stick a big sign on the back of my truck. Pull off on the off ramp up above them with my flashers on and sit there all day. The sign would say don't give money to the scammers or something like that. Just f up their game for the whole day.

I've given a lot of people money on the street who just asked for it respectfully. There's a huge difference between asking for money and inventing an elaborate sob story to scam people. Don't reward people for being crooks like a dope.

Here's a story. There were a bunch of guys on the street as I turned into a McDonald's. The guys were scattered and had a jar of money along with a board that said it was for a funeral home. Minutes after, these same goons came in and start cussing up a storm. They ordered food and drinks while they sausage fest it inside one car. The most suspicious is that they brought in that big jar of money inside of that Mcdonald's... and it makes you think alot of things... like... why did you bring in that big jar of money inside the McDonalds? Lol

I don't know about you, but if I had a big jar of $ I'd be bringing it with me into McDonald's too. Leaving it outside? It's not going to be there once you return, guaranteed where I live. Chances are there would be people patiently standing by watching closely to wait for the person with the jar to look away for a second so they can make their move, snatch & then run... Straight to their favorite corner or trap house. Screw that, Jar goes where I go, even to the toilet.

I have seen so many people holding signs for funeral help by the side of the road. You can pay the funeral home directly to ensure your money is used for the funeral. I have also seen gofund mes for amounts so much higher than what the actual funeral costs. One time, We billed under $6000 for the service and the family was requesting over $40000 on their go fund me page for funeral expenses 🙄 Also, be careful with people you know. Families asking for more money than they need to pay for the funeral is a common thing nowadays. In 2022, if they are requesting more than $2500 for a direct cremation, $5000 for a cremation with service, or $15000 for a full burial, they are either lying or went to a corporate owned funeral home.
