Great review! Thank you. I went with the Outdoorsmans and am very happy with it. Super sturdy. I had the Field Optics Research and didn't care for the release mechanism and mine was a little shaky when my binos were clipped in
@@gofish2233 did you have the Gen one or Gen 2 of the FOR Adapter? The Gen 1 had play but the Gen 2 is much much better. Thanks for watching and the comment!
Great review, thanks for being so thorough. It's good to see the pros and cons between the different options. FYI, on the Swarovski TAs-SLC adapter, there is an adjustment screw at the base of the collet hole; if it were to get a little loose over time, or if the adjustment isn't just right when you get it or maybe you'd like it to have a little less tension when you tighten the cam lever, a flat head screwdriver tightens or loosens the collet adjustment.
Ended up buying the Outdoorsmans mounts for my wife and I early this year. No regrets. I love sitting down and getting behind glass quietly and quickly. Great comparison!
Did you get the short or tall Outdoorsmans adaptor? BTW the Outdoorsmans Arca Adapter you linked is now 35$ instead of 20$, which makes the outdoorsman package quite expensive relatively speaking.
Thank for watching and the question! I got the tall Outdoorsmans adapter. I used it with 10x42's, but gives you the ability to use it with 15's as well if you want. Thanks for the update on the arca adapter price for the Outdoorsmens! If I could edit that into the video I would! Yeah, that does make the Outdoorsmans package a bit on the pricey side comparatively.
Thanks Jose and glad it was helpful! Most tripods (including the one in the video) come with a quick release plate which you could use with the Outdoorsmans adapter. Most of the quick release plates are on the large side though, so that small one that is made for the Outdoorsmans (link is in the description) is the perfect size for it. Thanks again!
How is the tolerance of the arca swiss that is on the Field Optics and the Outdoorsman plate compared to the plate that the VA-5 comes with (TY-75A)?? I just order the VA-5 and read arca swiss plates vary by manufacturer. So if you have different brands of plates on different optics you have to adjust the tolerance on the head every time you switch optics.
Hey there! Yeah, the VA-5 head has pretty tight tolerances and I've found that a lot of other brands of plates fit more snug. If memory serves correctly though they both worked on the VA-5. I'd recommend finding one brand of plate and picking up one for each of your optics though so you don't have to adjust the VA-5 every time you swap optics. Thanks for watching!
@Backwoods Pursuit Thank you! I ended up ordering the vortex pro adapter. For plates I order the TY-50 from Sirui and an off brand Amazon one to see which one will work best with the TY-75 that came with the head.
G'day great video with all the comparisons! I live in Australia and all those you mentioned cost over $230AUD to get shipped here. $230AUD is a fair bit just for an adapter. I was wondering if there are any quick release type binocular adapters under $100AUD? Cheers.
Thanks Pat! Appreciate it. That Field Optics Research around $40 USD, but not sure how much to get shipped there. That's the cheapest of them in that review. How much would it be to get the Field Optics shipped over there?
@@BackwoodsPursuit The only place I could find one of those new was on eBay and it cost just shy of $180AUD so around $120USD which is too much for me to pay just for an adapter... I found some used ones on Amazon for around $120AUD shipped so around $90USD for a used one. I wouldn't personally ever buy a used one. I found a vortex uni adapter for about $80AUD to my door. I might have to go with that....
@@pattysherd04 gotcha. That's too bad the cost is that much more for you! I've used that Vortex Uni-Dapter and its decent. If you attach it directly to the plate its solid. If you use the quick release setup there is some play, but still works pretty well.
@@BackwoodsPursuit Okay thanks for such a fast reply. Yeah guess that's being down under basically everything I buy from America costs a fortune to get shipped. I wouldn't mind paying that for something like a backpack etc but just not for an adapter👍
Do you know if the Swarovski SLC adaptor work with the NL Pure model? I know Outdoorsman has a "special" stud that's $30 more than the other studs, curious if you know if Swaro has a factory stud for the Pure to use with the SLC adaptor.
Hey there Marcus. The SLC adapter will work with the NL Pure but you need an adapter like the Epic Outdoors stud, which they made to fit the NL Pure to the SLC Adapter. That's the one I used with the NL Pure and it works great.
@@marcusluna4238 no problem! Here's a review we did that gives some options for it if you are interested. backwoodspursuit.com/swarovski-nl-pure-vs-zeiss-victory-sf/
@@BackwoodsPursuit I recently bought the 12x42 NL's, and they are absolutely fabulous. But now comes a bigger bino harness, forehead rest, and now tripod adaptor! Geez if a guy didn't feel like they got raked over the coals with the bino purchase. These aftermarket boys make sure to get their share with the NL's upcharge for studs! 😄
That one I have in the video is the tall Outdoorsmans. You'd be fine with a short one for 8x42's, but the tall also works if you want to have the option to run larger 15x50s or something like that down the road. Thanks for watching!
@@BackwoodsPursuit Awesome thanks. If I end up going bigger it will probably just be to 10x50's for the near future. 8 does it for me here in wisconsin and out west. Spent an evening comparing 8 and 10x42 and in low light the 8's got me a few extra minute's of viewing.
Hey there! Those are totally different styles for sure, but personally I prefer the stud like the Outdoorsman's or Swarovski. But, not all binos are threaded for. Astud, so in that case the RRS Cinch is great. I've got one and it works very well.
The "TAS" is just the model of the Swarovski SLX adapter that has an Arca Swiss base. The previous model didn't have an Arca base. Thanks for the question and for watching!
That is one of the shirts I had up for sale in my online store on my website a little while back (www.backwoodspursuit.com). There are a few other designs there as well. Thanks for asking!
@@peternelson9865 each brand has their own design, so for instance, the Outdoorsmans adapter stud won't work on any of the others and vise versa. I wish they did lol!
@@RobertVosburg gotcha. I've used the Uni-Dapter its not bad. Not as stable as any of these though in my opinion. The other one they make isn't a quick release and a bit bulky for my preference.
