If you want to sound more fluent in everyday spoken French, it's important to work on your pronunciation. This way, you can gain more confidence with your French and feel ready to use it on your travels or in your online conversation club (like ours!).
Today, let's do some pronunciation practice together. We'll cover some French words that are famously difficult to pronounce, so you can master them once and for all.

At Comme une Française, we specialize in everyday spoken French. We focus on three unique aspects that are different from school French, self-study books, Duolingo, etc:
1. We focus only on the specifics of speaking/understanding/being understood in everyday French and have unique ways to help you learn it properly & faster.
2. We focus on shortcuts to help you make progress faster, which also means we tell you exactly what you can stop learning to prioritize what’s really important.
3. We use French culture as the subject to make it fun and interesting for adults.
Take care and stay safe.
😘 from Grenoble, France.
Géraldine

Just discovered your channel and I want to say “Thank You.” I have always wanted to learn French but have struggled with pronunciation. My family (Meunier is my maiden name) was originally from France (1812) and I am from New Orleans. I have felt like a failure because I feel as if I SHOULD be able to speak French… shouldn’t it be part of my DNA! 😂 You make the finer points of everyday French so much easier to understand.

Same here! I'm from New Orleans too (my last name is Coulon- South France), and feel speaking French should be 2nd natured. I started with Duo and I am reading okay, but my pronunciation is horrible and I don't "think" in French yet. This channel is helping me tremendously! Thanks so much for starting the channel!!

Aloha et Mahalo Nui Loa. La langue hawaïenne est également difficile à prononcer; mais toutes les deux sont merveilleuses

So far this is absolutely not complicated or tricky for me. Your pronunciations match what my old father, a French teacher and master, and my less accomplished French teachers in high school and college, demonstrated. These pronunciations reinforce for me my lifelong love of French language, culture, and sensibility. Thank you. I have noticed one difference between my old studies and a pronunciation I have heard in France. Jardins, for example: the din (ain) seems now to have regularized downward closer to dens.

J’ai visité plusieurs Châteaux de la Loire en 1978, quand j’ai passé un semestre d’études à Angers. On a vu Chambord, Blois, Chenonceau, Azay-le-Rideau, Amboise, et peut-être d’autres dont je ne me souviens plus. C’était une expérience merveilleuse!

Having studied German quite a bit before I started French, it helped me that the French "u" is very similar to if not exactly the same as the German "ü" with an umlaut...

This exercise is absolutely the best of the best! It helps me so much as I pursue my French studies to listen while you read it slowly and read the French subtitles (I never looked at the English but tried to derive meaning just by reading French), then you allowed me to read along with you -- c'est merveilleux! I stumbled a lot and fell behind in some places, but I'll come back to this again and again until I can do it well. This is a perfect learning tool for me -- merci beaucoup !

None-francophones are not the only people who have trouble with rapidly spoken French. My French friends (we are all of a certain age) complain about the speed actors use in a lot of movies. So "slower" French is helpful. Having said that, however, I find that slowing down too much, whether in French, English, or I suppose another language, can result in distortion. I enjoyed the video enormously and loved being introduced to a couple of chateaux I was not familiar with. However, frankly, I set the speed at 1.25 and found the slightly faster pace about right. Still far from the speed talk my friends (Parisian/outre mer/Lyon) complain about. Thanks for an excellent video.

Just a reminder : the sound "R" in french is pronounced with the voice, it is not blown like the sound "CH" in german or "J" in spanish. This last sound doesn't exist in french , even if many french people make this mistake. 😉

Merci Géraldine pour cette leçon. C'était amusant de pratiquer des sons difficiles tout en découvrant de beaux châteaux au bord de la Loire. Je crois entendre une différence entre « un » et la syllabe finale de « jardin », du moins dans la façon dont Charles Trenet le chante. « In- » m'a posé problème à un autre endroit : « Inoubliable ». Je voulais que la première syllabe sonne comme le « in- » initial de « influencé » et « inspiré », mais c'est clairement faux.
