i don't believe that the 4 cyl will last as long as the v8. load it with the normal 4x4 gear (bull bar, suspension, bigger tyres , fridge, a roof rack) nothing else and you'll have the engine squirting oil in a couple years like those 2 litre raptors you see poluting rivers and staining car parks. ? its a win for Greta (saving the planet 😉 )

Most new 4wd's are much quicker these days because of the 8 and 10 speed transmissions, what is the comparison in rebuild cost between an auto and a manual? I've heard 10k plus for a F250 auto rebuild.

hpw about auto v8 and auto 4cyl. that would be the true test. dual cab for both etc.... you have to test apples with apples. On looks I cancelled my new dual cab order as I just don't like the front end, will look at a now old style dual cab somewhere down the line.

the 79 series where do i start ohh what a shitbox should be the slogan in the ads by far the worst sounding v8 in history 150kw from a 4.5L turbocharged engine the transmission is dog shit have to shift slowly or it doesn't go into gear the engine is torque limited to 430NM because toyota refused to change the clutch from the 1hd cruiser in 2007 and the rear track makes them highly unstable at highway speeds with a full/tall load in the tray i had to drive a 2017 model from grafton to brisbane and back no load just me in the car for work and it chewed through 150L to do just under 900kms glad i wasn't footing the bill

V8, I4? Doesn't matter. The 7x series LandCruisers have always been laundry list of upgrades from factory to make drivable. Still has the goofy leaf rear. I wonder if they bothered to fix the track width disparity? Let me guess, the handbrake is still trash? I wonder how long the dpf system will last till expensive replacement? Driving position still looks like a farmer straddling a tractor.

Both motors are the same on paper almost but that auto with the extra ratio really makes a difference. I’d still prefer the v8 though for a lower stressed motor. I can’t see that 4cyl doing 500000+km

Keen to see the same test loaded to near gvm towing a heavy trailer (it might still be the same result). But the real test will be loaded with a trailer down a long grade or off road down a steep incline Id like to see the engine braking. Will be asking a lot of the brakes in the auto with the little engine

Ask anyone in the outback who got the turbo 4 pot VW duel CSB thinking it was a good thing… A good thing for the school run or driving on and off site, but so many ended up on the side of the road because they are too highly strung. Same with the Ranger. Great for transport stages, but for actual work? No thanks.

To be fair, these 2 vehicles aren’t race cars. The auto will always beat the manual between these 2. Start putting a big load on the 4cyl and see how it goes compared to the v8. I don’t think the 4cyl will cut it to be honest. My hilux is absolutely gutless when towing and the v8 just pulls. I know what I would pick.
@joshthomas2536

@@joshthomas2536 just saying mate. I have the 2.8 in my hilux which isn’t the best when towing and I have towed with the v8 which was a lot better to tow with and could hold the power up hills better than my hilux. I understand they have upgraded the 2.8 slightly for this model but I guess time will tell. Give me the v8 any day. And why is it weird useless information? I’m just commenting on my opinions from driving and towing with both engines. The v8 towed better than my hilux.
