4 DAYS FISHING ST. REGIS IN SPRINGTIME

Alex and I travel to the St. Regis Wilderness Canoe Area in the Adirondacks of New York. We hit the land and water trails as hard as we could in the face of long portages, wind, rain and mosquitoes and had a terrific time over four days. Five species of fish were caught and good food was cooked over the campfire!

Please respect the woods & waters and leave them better than you found them. Pack out all trash! Collect only dead and down wood in the Adirondack Park. Respect Mah Nature!

Learn how to handle fish if you're going to release them. Chances of fish surviving when you run your fingers up through their gills is pretty slim.

I like silver lures like pheobes, swiss swings, roostertails. Sometimes it's more about placement, water column and then speed if trolling. A little worm also helps entice a bite from a sedentery trout. Good luck, keep your line wet and you'll find em.

What’s the capacity of your fry bag? I’ve been looking at getting one like that with straps to make portaging easier.
@NatureIntoAction
@NatureIntoAction Год назад
I think it is a Sealine 115. Make sure you get a waist strap.. put pack weight on hips, boat weight on shoulders. I use a smaller sealine bag maybe 75liter now unless w carrying group gear.

Been on Ponds many times. Many small lakers and some beautiful splake. Try spinning with mono and some lead line to sink a little, with hammered spoon(mine are homemade) and jerk. Have camp on St Regis River, always brookies. Use mepps black and yellow, size 0, 1, and 2. Rip them hard. Try canoe from Blue Mtn road all the way to Santa Clara, 10 plus miles. Great ride. Full day or 2. Jim

do you clip your worm in half when the bite is on and inventory is running low?
@NatureIntoAction
@NatureIntoAction 2 года назад
I usually use half and hope the bigger fish take it whole instead of little nibbles by smaller brookies. If slow, I would use a full worm and try to find the bite. Barbless and with forceps for quick wet return if you plan to release.

Great video... but carrying in Crocks? It's interesting to see the same carry/trails and the obstacles on the trails just in opposite directions. Thunder and lightning storms are my favorite when camping... just as long as it doesn't strike next to me. You did very well on the fishing... great job. What a brookie that was!!! I don't think they get much bigger than that in the Adks. Thanks for taking the time to post.
@NatureIntoAction
@NatureIntoAction 5 лет назад
In my defense they were new crocs so had fresh traction. My only complaint is they sound ultra sqeaky on video.👍 That storm was great, lightning and loons calling behind the campfire all watched from the lean-to.

Nice surprise this morning as I had my morning coffee. Couple things; I admire how streamlined your gear is. Clearly you single carry (portaging) on your adventures. Do you single carry on most fishing/canoe trips, even during the shoulder seasons? Have you weighed your pack, including food? Also, why do you hang your pack - mice, squirrels? Gotta like those Canadian worms, eh? Lol. Btw, beautiful slab at 33:00! Incidentally, I never get tired of your venison dishes - nice touch with the baguette and avocado. Thanks for sharing another excellent adventure.
@NatureIntoAction
@NatureIntoAction 5 лет назад
thx 😁. Always single carry. I have a 115liter sealine pack so easy to fit a lot of gear and a partner can carry paddled and fishing rods easily without attaching them to the boat or pack. Yes, red squirrels n mice chew holes and potential for bear but very low.

Great video! Found your channel by watching your Lake Lila vid in prep for an overnight trip. The fishing, canoeing, and camping in this one are top notch. You make it all look easy...especially the portages. What model Mad River canoe do you have? Any recommendations for someone looking to get into multi day canoe trips in the ADK? I have an Old Town but I would not want to portage very far with it. Keep making videos! Love the ADK!
