4 day Flaring, Flying, Paragliding road trip in Yeppoon, QLD.
Over the Easter holidays my friend and I, Tiam Tarran (Mullet Boy) took off in our 4x4's 7 hrs north to the quiet coastal town of Yeppoon in Central Queensland, Australia.
And holy shit, what an incredible trip! 4 days and I swear the wind didn't want to stop. I took my Flare Moustache 15, Flare Moustache 18 and Flare Moustache 22, and flew them all. We scored 6 different sites (all within 20km of each other) all a little bit different. It was a flaring/paragliding road trip I'll never forget.
Yeppoon has amazing variety of coastal soaring sites for flaring, flying or paragliding. We soared small 2m high sand dunes to 100m high rocky headlands. We were blessed with warm, smooth, fresh and strong tradewinds.
I think the crown jewel of Paragliding in Central Queensland must be Wreck Point, Yeppoon. I don't think I've ever had this much fun flying a site on my Flare Moustache. An incredible area that should be on everyone's list of places to visit on an Australian Paragliding Road Trip.
Aside from being a huge playground for paragliding, Yeppoon also has great options for kitesurfing, flatwater and/or small surf. Also if the wind has been blowing for a couple of days there is a chance for some small waves, enough for a mal at least. Bring your zinc and a buff though, the sun is strong and so is the wind!
