Wait until they bloom, I recently got to see them in their native habitat It is kind of a surreal realization seeing the boglands full of pretty yellow flowers only to realize it was all Bladderworts growing in the boggy wetlands.

XD My dad has some Lady Slippers (a type of pitcher plant). What carnivorous plants did you get? Also, if there wasn't an ick factor, would you eat bugs yourself? (Many cultures do already, and there are American companies grinding them up for chips. One's called Chirps.) Or are insects just so far removed from chickens and cows that there's no moral factor for you? (If that's why you're vegetarian) Sorry if this all comes off as rude. It's not meant that way. I'm just curious.

+Some Person Apparently I didn't see this 10 months ago. Sorry! I'm sure you've moved on with your life by now but for sake of closure... I've been into venus fly traps ever since I was a kid. I should try getting one of those pitcher plants next time I see one. Yes, I choose not to eat meat based on my moral preferences. No, I don't hold insects as high up there as more complex life forms. Still, arthropods > plants. I have tried chapulines before (not bad tasting actually...kind of like a beef jerky flavor with twiggy texture), and meal worms (tasted like dust). I'm sure I've eaten way more bugs accidentally. Anyways, yeah, prefer avoiding them in my diet but if I had to bugs would be next in line at the slaughterhouse.

I grew up with carnivorous plants as my mother used them for this very reason. We had Venus fly traps and they work great indoors and are so cool. I would feed them myself all the time

Unlikely, the genetic changes required would be massive, it would probably be easier to engineer these kinds of plants to grow a wheat like substance intead

3:13 did you know these sarracenia flava can get up to 60cm (23,6inch) tall pitchers. I got one at home with each pitcher filled with like 70-100 bugs, the dark red versions are especially beautiful

My carnivorous plants arrived off of Amazon yesterday. Sundew plants, Venus fly traps and Pitcher plants. They're tiny because they are very young. I fed them some ants yesterday. Truly wonderful plants.

Naol_may_Ethan these plants do, mostly because there soil in the areas the live in lack the nutrients nessasary to photosynthesis well without meat.

Its not... their roots is the trap which is underneath the peat moss what you see is their leaves

That's Mimosa pudica, commonly known as Touch-me-not plant or Shameplant due to the instanteous curling of its leaves when touched. Hope it helped. :)

Awesome Video! I particularly liked the section on the Utricularia (Bladderwort) which is often overlooked by carnivorous plant zealots. I also think it's amazing that there are over 750 species of these plants! Are most of these pitcher plants? And yes, my fiancé and I have three Dionaeae (VFT). My nephew called the one I bought Rocko Bayani (I haven't the slightest idea why). The other two are named Витас and Шура by my soon to be nieces. I think they are Russian pop stars, but I'm not 100% certain; My side is American & his is Russian. Rocko Bayani stands between five to eight cm tall & his leaves are wavy like a snake. He also tends to have a lot more pinkish-red in his traps & there are super tiny traps no larger than a ladybird at the base of the plant. I'm not sure if they function or even of their relation to Rocko Bayoni. If someone could help us out on understanding those, that'd be fantastic! The other two came from the exact same plant & they drink a lot more than Rocko Bayani (I say it's because they're Russian). Their traps are much larger than Rocko Bayani & shoot out low and nearly sideways as if there were a book hovering a couple cm over the base to prevent it from growing any higher. I think it has something to do with it's traps being so big. One of them caught a шмель плотник once! (I don't know how to say that in English but, it's like a giant hairy bee). Is there a way to get the two low hanging plants to rise up a bit?
