In this video series I am going to show you how to install, configure and manage VMware vSphere 6.5. In the forth video from the series we are deploying our vCenter Server using a vCenter Server Appliance.
Tips:
1. vCenter Server can be installed on Windows Operating System as well.
2. You can use VMware Evaluation Center to download and evaluate vCenter - my.vmware.com/en/web/vmware/e...

Nick, I just found your videos, Where have you been all my life!!!! Your videos are excellent.... thank you.. I have a question about the VCenter. It appears that VCenter can either be installed on a blank drive or installed on top of windows computer / server? Is one better than the other? The reason I ask, I have a failed VCenter server that won't boot to Windows 2008. This Windows 2008 Server is on a separate piece of hardware (not virtual) and supports 3-4 hosts with multiple VMs on them. I am going to have to rebuild this server and wanted to know if I should install windows server and put VCenter on top (which appears to be what was done initially) or just format the drive and install VCenter from scratch? Keep these videos coming you are a great help to those of us trying to keep up with all this technology! TFI

Nice. I only wish I had environment to test settings somewhere myself. Apparently, there is no simulation program for this and we can't make testing environment at home without paying high price for software. I downloaded 2 month trial but it expired so fast before I even had a chance to test them. :(

how/where do you find IP/Gateway/DNS server? Also, how on earth do you get to that URL for esxi server to login?

Hello Nick. Thanks for the tutorial. If honestly, I confused myself. Where did you install Your Domain Controller? and why did you need it here? The reason why I decided to use the VMware is I have only one device and cannot use Domain controller and Terminal server together on this device. As I understood, after installing VMWare, I should install Domain controller on this VMWare, am I right? You did not show it. That is why I am a bit confused. Thanks beforehand. Regard.

hey nick & elik, was there an answer to this? I am looking a creating a new VMWare host, and running multiple VMs on it...... one would be the Domain Controller, the other will a Terminal Server, a Backup domain controller, etc..... I should be able to do this correct? I think Elik is talking about installing the Domain controller AND the Terminal Server on the Same VM or Hardware Device Server instance. Correct? (that I have heard is not recommended. TFI

hi , I'm new to VMware , I'm purchasing a dedicated server and i prefer using ESXi for virtualization and making VPS on it, is it necessary to use vcenter ? or it's just in case for more than one Host? and i can skip it if im using only one ESXi Host?
@MaplePengiun
@MaplePengiun 5 лет назад
If you're using only one host you can definitely use ESXI without vCenter. If you're using the free license then you are restricted from all the cool enterprise features and even some useful homelab features but in terms of spinning up VMs it'll handle it no problem. If you look at the 3rd episode in this series you see NLB spin up a VM before being connected to vCenter. If you wanted to have the enterprise features without spending enterprise money Ebay has used enterprise keys that are no longer under warranty that are resold for about $10.
@robinhood2439
@robinhood2439 5 лет назад
nope not necessary. You use vCenter for more than one ESXI host.

I keep having problems with this step. My vCenter Appliance Server fails at 'Installing RPM' and when I always check the VM, it's not assigning itself a hostname (staying localhost) and it's not taking the IP address I've assigned. It's acting like it cannot assign itself a IP or Hostname. Thing is, it's not the first VM I've installed on this ESXi machine. So why is it doing this? As well, it's acting like it didn't get assigned a Password, and is making me reinstall a password.

You're not talking about 1 obvious requirement that's part of this demo....the domain. Prior to installing vCenter Server did you ... Register this domain you're using? Setup domain controller? Point name servers to your public IP address? Setup DNS server and records? Install security certificates? vCenter Server requires a FQDN, so what steps are required to do everything you're showing? How will attempting to use a .local domain impact the installation?
@leomagallon1061

The domain he used is his own internal. AD is assumed to already be running.
