Walking down the street, you may encounter railroads on which a familiar vehicle roams the city with its poetic figure. You can also come across railroads on certain stations where the whole crowd is waiting for that one big metal body. Do you think on these railroads the same vehicles commute or is there a difference between them? Actually, there is more than one! The first one is called ‘tram’ and the latter ‘train’. You may have heard several times that one is used for the other, but are they the same thing? Is a tram a train? There is not a single answer to these questions.
Although the way they commute is the same, there are a number of differences between trains and trams. In order to differentiate them, we first have to answer the questions of “what is a train” and “what is a tram.” Some countries make the distinction quite clearly while others do not seem to be bothered that much. However, when you get to know their functions and features, you can easily understand the distinction between them.
