How you easy manually loads even big and heavy logs or lumber on a wagon by yourself using various hand tools + new and old school technics. Also a story of how not to!
Worked with my Grampa 60 years ago cutting and snaking logs from bulldozed trees. Skidded them to a clearing, and using chains to load on a wagon. Then pull the wagon to the sawmill a couple miles away. Never used a ramp, but then I was driving a tractor and Grampa had a team of mules. We had the power to roll 3 or 4 logs up with that chain at a time, depending on their size. Horsepower does make a difference. Learned a lot about common-sense that summer.
The best parts of the videos were your sharing your "mistakes". No better way to learn. Doing this kind of work can be dangerous and doing it alone can be extremely so. Thank you for taking the time to do this video.

Well done in everything you did and doing thanks for the shear. What is the tree jack called for fixing and raising the log please I never saw one like that very good.
I've spent so much time thinking of ways to stack logs without the use of horses or machinery, that I'm glad to have found this video. I could tell what was gonna happen for every scenario, including what would work or not, but it was seriously refreshing seeing you try them all, unashamedly. Well done for showing the mistakes man. This'll help others a lot :) I hope you've perfected your technique/s since this video was made :)
Ive seen so many videos with intricate log lifting systems and this one seems like the simplest and most economical . This could be adapted and improved upon on pretty much any trailer. Thanks for sharing your ideas.
My Grandfather used this method back in the 40's and 50's to load his log truck using a team of 4 oxen for power, hooking two cross haul chains anchored to the far side of the trailer. The oxen would pull the 30 inch by 20 foot logs up the skids and onto the trailer. As a young kid in the 50's, I though it was really amazing that you could load logs that big three layers high just using the power of the oxen! Things sure have changed. Great Video!!!!!!!!!
I agree, thanks for recording the ideas that were less successful. So many people want others to think that everything they do works all the time, when the rest of us know that's not the case. I learned a few new tricks from your video. Which I will use in the coming weeks. I donate hard wood to the Navajo reservation and am planning to load and haul the oak logs from MO to NM. This video will help!
The top of the square tube with the winch on it is open ended. A ratchet strap to the top of the tube and secured to the back side of the trailer could help take some of the tension off the tube. I realize it's thicker steel and the gusset at the bottom would stay off total failure. Maybe the strap could keep the top of the bar from bending, especially when lifting a larger log. Great video sir.
Erik Straarup hahahahahha yes I know what you mean!!! But still I like people who can solve problems or fixing them by taking a minute and think over the problem!!! Really nice video hope to see the building for your daughter when it is complete ready also with the Interieur!!!
This is BRILLIANT! I loved watching work through the issues you were having. Make the winch drill-powered and it would be even more efficient. SUBSCRIBED!
It's another great video,I like the way you show mistakes as well it good to watch and learn from.i did the leverage way when I worked in the forestry once you get the balance right it was easy,I took the trailer off for bigger logs and used the ATV quad which I used in the forest with the trailer and made ramp used ATV to push big logs up onto trailer. It's surprising what you can do on your own.good videos I'm really enjoying them
For the last log in the last loading method, would it work if you installed the front vertical bar to prevent the log from swinging out, then use the lifting tool on the rear portion of the log while the strap for the winch is still in place to stabilize? Really appreciate your video. Thank you

I really enjoy your videos. I would put a chain or strap from just above the winch to a tree to anchor that post so it doesn't bend or break under a load.
Now you can use an extension and a socket with your cordless drill to even go faster with the winch. There is another guy I watch on RU-vid that does that and he uses a cable winch and cordless drill ! :-)
Great video. Been there, still doing that. The winching technique is called parbuckling, and I load logs on the mill that way, too. I use a 12 Volt winch & deep cycle battery, now. Easier on the shoulder. Nice trailer!
you have the hydraulic lift on the back of the tractor and the pto use the machine to do the lifting by creating something that lifts the legs via several pullies that the hydraulics can those legs you made off the side.
Great video Erik! I would go back to the chain system and switch it out for a rope Just shorten it so you don't run out of pull doing it this way keeps the log cantered and when you start out you only need the one line but when it comes up it will be more stable! Only problem with the one line is unless you are in the centre or you have a bent log or have a knot it will swing on you!
Isn't hindsight wonderful. :-) I could tell right away that #4 with chains wouldn't work whereas a strap/pully would. You used a bit of #2 with the 3rd log. Actually #2 looks like fun ... for small logs. Hope you had some fun too. Your video's are well made and a lot of fun to watch.
Flott video, som vanlig! Kjøpte logosol løftejekk denne uka etter å ha sett deg bruke den i en tidligere video. Prøvde den for første gang i dag, og var veldig positivt overrasket! Kommer nok til å bli brukt mye i skogen her! :-)
Good ideas, I'll try this out one day, but we have much stepper forests to get the wood, any way for the last one big log on top of the two, I might suggest to use 2 chain pulleys, one at each end instead the one in the middle...
When it comes to a problem a person has to think outside the box, it's the trailer manufacture your trailer? two logs weigh more than one and four logs weigh more than one, use the weight of the multiple logs to elevate the lesser weight! if a person is not using hydraulics to move item A to item B then they have to think of other methods, a huge tree can be pulled clean out of the ground with pully and ropes.
I am 66 & weigh 130 lbs manually load logs me & a hand winch l love figuring out how i am going to get them loaded almost as much as sawing them on my mill & then flip them over

Nice video. Just curious but does your tractor have a PTO? If so, I imagine you could power some sort of winch with it. Maybe use an old car/truck axle and power it with the PTO and use one of the wheel rims like a capstain winch.
yes the tractor has PTO, and if I was doing this every day i would make something like that, but for my now and then use i am happy with this cheap and easy solution :-)
"Bad idea" - :-D That was funny. Du har litt kjøring langs offentlig vei altså. Det er ofte et problem her i "steinrøysa" da henger må være registrert, ha lys, varsel for overhengende last og så videre. God video!
