I am pleased that more footage of BR/SR EPBs in action from Charing X to Woodside/Addiscombe come up.. Woodside was My youth home where I grew up and I forgot that the Bingham Rd/Selsdon line offshoot got closed down earlier than the whole shooting match later on. Trams now remind Us that lived pre trams of what was.Great cab ride.😊👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Hard to believe the trackbed was so dirty and littered, but it definitely was. I saw it myself in those days and people just discarding their papers, wrappers, buts, etc. even with plenty of bins near hand. No shame in themselves and no pride in a fantastic railway system.
Thanks for sharing this. I remember the line from London to Elmers End and on to Hayes well, but I don't recall ever taking the Addiscombe branch, so it is nice to see this. As you say, much of the branch still exists as part to the Croydon tramlink system. The old EMUs now look so outdated, but these were the exact trains that took me up to London and back as a child!
This takes me back. My late dad was a railway guard and used to mostly work the Addiscombe - Elmers End shuttle. When the family still lived in Addiscombe, we used that line to visit my mum's family in Catford.
I never knew the line went from Charing Cross to addiscombe. I only knew the Elmer’s end to addiscombe train. Also amazed how big addiscombe station was. Thanks for sharing
I've been over the spur between the Beckenhams once, a most interesting Sunday diversion. Waterloo Euro - Denmark Hill - Lady well - Beckenham Jct and then the Bat and Ball loop, all to get to Tonbridge. Dear old Addiscombe station, I knew it in the 1970s and it was an interesting backwater then. Now all gone.
