A cab ride video aboard a 09 type Plasser & Theurer tamper from Orpington to Herne Hill. This video is part of a longer journey from Hither Green P.A.D. to Woking. Other parts of the journey have been uploaded separately
I used to live in Beckenham until we moved to Canada in 1965, and have not been back now since 1995. My grandfather used to take me to Beckenham Junction to watch trains, and occasionally go into London, which I also did on subsequent trips back. I have fond memories of the EPBs, but did not appreciate them enough back then. I have always been fascinated by railways, and have recently rekindled my interest in British railways. I'm used to seeing the sideways view. The forward view is much appreciated.
I don’t get out in the daytime very often, which is a shame, as there are so many more routes I can film. I was out late last night from Hastings to Ashford. That’s a lovely line, but at night time you just can’t see anything, making filming pointless, which is a shame
1) Don't understand why anyone would give this sort of video a thumbs down......2) unless perhaps they were one of your passengers during the 20 minute "booked wait"??
All my videos get thumbs down. I have no doubts some people delight in just doing it for ‘fun’. Hey ho. As long as people enjoy the content, that’s what I’m here for. Some of my colleagues also use them to help route refreshing. It’s all good
Another very enjoyable video, including a view of my house at about 6:20. But you shot through Bickley so quickly, I can only get a good look by hitting pause :-)
Bizarrely the routing for this journey was Hither Green, Orpington, Herne Hill, down through Streatham, East Croydon to Redhill, then across to Guildford and Woking. Somewhat long winded!
Planning the routing for your trips must be an 'interesting' exercise for someone - to what extent is route knowledge a factor as you take some combinations which most drivers would never need to see?
Indeed. Final say is with Network Rail, who fit you in among already scheduled trains, hence our hold at Kent House, which although this might not seem obvious here must have had a knock on elsewhere along the route where they would be unable to get me out the way. Fortunately my route knowledge is pretty extensive, but, if need be, a conductor would have to come along too for the bits the driver doesn’t know
A tamper as per the thumbnail on the previous video. This video is part of a longer journey from Hither Green to Woking and has been separated into shorter clips
Yes, I share that frustration. It quite a long booked stop, and I guess they were concerned the shunt at Herne Hill would get in the way? Passenger trains will always take priority
