Hi everyone, I would just like to say thanks for all of the love you've given me on this video. If you have any questions or things you would like to see in another video then drop a comment and let me know! Enjoy playing these games with your dogs!
Nick Benger do you need to work up to come of these games? We have a 14 week cavalier King Charles puppy. He has a sold sit/down/stay with distance, out of sight and distractions /come/leave it and plays a decent fetch so keen to keep games/learning fresh for us both. We haven’t taught him “find” but have taught “take it” as a release command from leave. And don’t have any sort of paw to hand for the treat. How would you start as feel it’ll be too much to expect him to get these straight away
Great video and I’ve learned some new ways to play with my dog. I take them on regular walks to the park and beach as well as to the dog park to play fetch but just started to play these brain games. Thank you for this video.
I was feeling like a good owner for walking my dog every night and letting him sleep on my bed. It never occurred to me to play these types of games with him. Time to start.
LOL That's hilarious! He's really good at this now. We've started training him to search for tobacco and sit to indicate it. He's awesome at it, I've never seen him so keen to do anything.
My dogs nose is crazy - we are going to play this game over the weekend - I can't wait to see her go. The hard part will be keeping her away while I hide the treats - wish us luck!
Thanks for the games. HIding was hilarious, my dog couldn't find me for a long time and was turning back and forth in confusion, lol! It certainly got her brain going. The towel is a great puzzle game, I bought a puzzle block a while back, when I could have just used a towel, doh! For the find the treat game, I had played this in the past but it taught my dog a bad habit of picking things off the floor in the street. I had to modify the game a little, by hiding a toy, that she finds, returns to me and I reward her with a treat, this encourages her not to eat food directly from the floor but to always check with me. Although, it doesn't always work if the treat on the floor is good enough.
I play hide and seek with my 4. I hid under a mattresses. worst idea ever. They got on the mattress I was pinned but laughing to hard to tell them to move.
Hahaha! Start easy and make it worth your dogs time reward with food or lots of play when your dog finds you and he/she will soon be searching you out with enthusiasm!
Nice games! You have a great dog. I also think it’s time for a good nail clipping. I can hear the clicking of your pet’s feet on floor. Keep up the awesome work with great dog! How about some fetching games? Thanks!!
I tried all of these games with my dog with lots of success! Looking for ways to keep my dog entertained without the dog park and without agility training cuz she is working through joint issues, so this is perfect! Thank you so much!!
Thanks for the fun ideas, my dog is blind and partially deaf so I'm always trying to find new ways to keep her active & stimulated. We already do " find mom" and "find the treat" im excited to try out "the towel game" it could really work for her!
Great ideas. I have my beginner students (pre Stay lesson) play Hide n Seek, but just have them sneak away or take turns holding the dog while the other person hides. It's a great way to show (Come) coming to you is really fun!Find it is also great. You can do Find It with their meals. Use various receptacles to put a few pieces of kibble in (clear plastic cups freak a lot of dogs out for some reason). That's a good way to expose puppies to various new objects, textures and sounds.
These are awesome! Very simple because they don't require any special equipment. I tried the towel game with my dog tonight and she loved it! The other dog liked it but after a few tries she got frustrated and tried to chew the treat through the towel...may need to make things a little easier for her. Thanks so much for sharing :)
Great! I agree if your dog becomes frustrated and loses interest then make it easier. Once your dog gets better at the game you can increase the difficulty again. Have fun :)
I do a similar game to the towel game with treats wrapped up paper, all thrown in a cardboard box with the lid loosely closed, my dog then needs to get in the box, pull out the scrunched up paper ball and then tear open the paper to get the treat.
My dog won’t play find the treat, she is obsessed with any object if you are holding it or doing something with it but as soon as you put it down she wants nothing to do with it
This brain training game “nonu amazing only” (Google it) is simply impressive! It has been weeks since I started playing the game and I found changes in my response time and memory. I have dyslexia and it has helped me with tasks I really do everyday at work and home. Good for working your brain and keeping it energetic. Fun to use.
The first two are great and I do them, though I think my dog is used to all my hiding places! Using a blanket to hide toys or treats in keeps my dog busy for up to five minutes. I'll have to try the 3rd and 4th today.
Nick Benger My dog didn't quite figure out trick three when I hid the treat in my hands, but that could be a breed thing. (He's a Maltese x Bichon Frise.) But he totally enjoyed finding the hidden treats around the room! These games are great in a number of ways because you get to teach them guiding commands at the same time! "Where is it?" means they're looking for something. "No more" means the game is over. "Over there", "Up" and "Down", etc. Not to mention my pooch is fast asleep from the brain drain! Thanks so much for posting!
Use whatever food your dog likes and is safe to give him/her. I tend to change what I use to keep it interesting for my dogs. Normally I use cut up sausage or shop bought dog treats (treats with the highest meat percentage are better).
Nick Benger suprizingly my finicky dog (Petit Basset Griffon Vendéen) doesn't like sausages and only eats those bone shaped treets if he's really hungry. he likes salami and pure lean beef sausages though, spoiled dog used to eat anything when he was young
Dread Steel It sounds like salami or beef sausage is the way to go then. Or you could use the bone treats for these games and save the salami and beef sausage for training. Interesting breed choice by the way, you don't see many around!
Nick Benger its a cute bread however a bit vocal and they tend to have a bit of a stubborn personality, it is somehow common with dog breeders where i live.
It sounds like it would be useful for you if you could experiment and try to make a list of things he really likes. Certain toys, being stroked a certain way, certain foods etc. When you're done you'll know different ways to motivate him. That might help you with his stubbornness. I agree they're cute dogs.
Make it super easy and gradually increase the difficulty. Close the dog out of the room and put some treats in clearly visible spots when the dog finds them make a fuss of him and close him out again. Repeat the process increasing the difficulty each time. You can let your dog know when you're playing this game by using whatever word you like "search" for example every time you play. Good luck.
Thank your for this. I now I play these with my pup daily. He loves them all except the towel game. Even when I tried a smaller towel and bigger treat he gets really frustrated and starts barking and whining at me. But at least it really seems to tucker him out.
Awesome, I love hearing these stories. Not every dog will enjoy every game, maybe when your pup grows up a bit he will have the patience to enjoy that game more. Have fun with your dog :)
Good ideas dude. I just got an Australian Shepard and I'm trying to find ways to keep her entertained. Any ideas for when you have to leave home and want them to stay busy while your gone?
Fill a Kong toy with wet food and put it in the freezer, it's gonna turn into a "popsicle" for dog ;) Hide the Kong in her/him bed just before you leave. If your dog get really good at it you can mix the wet food with little piece of chew toy so it's gonna be harder for him/her to lick all the food. It keeps my Jack Russell busy for about an hour.
Catherine D'Anjou Sorry, only just seen this comment. I completely agree with Catherine. Kongs are great for keeping dogs busy. You can also leave treats hidden around the house and play the "find the treat" game whilst you're gone. Just make sure you don't hide treats anywhere unsafe.
One of my dogs wont be able to do these because she wont stay and she is very protective of her food so she will bite for it but my other dog can! he wont stay but he can play the other games!!!
This mind exercising game “nonu amazing only” (Google it) entertains me a lot! My concentration and ability to remember could develop by playing these games because they are really tricky. I never thought that my whole family will participate in this game too and sometimes, we play the game altogether using only one phone!
This brain exercising game “nonu amazing only” (Google it) amuses me a lot! My concentration and ability to remember could develop by playing these games since they`re very tricky. Crazy point was, the whole household wound up having fun with this game, and passing my mobile phone around!
Hi Nick, I work at an advertising agency in Sweden. For one of our clients, an big insurance company, we´re making a campaign about insurances for pets. In a campaign site we´ll collect content for cats and dogs - entertainment such as interesting videos, relaxing playlists and games. And since they are an insurance company, we will also give advice to their owners about how they keep their animals healthy, avoid injurys, train their animals in the best ways, etc. We have a question if we are allowed to show this video among other videos on the web site? The plan is to embed it from your channel, so you will get the views, we don´t have any interest in downloading it or pretend it´s ours. If you want to discuss more, please send me an email on katarina.soderholm@akestamholst.se Best regards/Katarina
